ALERT RUSSIA INVADES UKRAINE - Consolidated Thread

Has No Life - Lives on TB
It does show the detection problems with small planes flying at lower altitudes through the expanses of Russia. (or the U.S.)

Not the first time a Cessna has penetrated the vaunted Soviet/Russian air defenses. From Wikipedia: "Mathias Rust is a German aviator known for his flight [in a rented Reims Cessna F172P] that ended with a landing near Red Square in Moscow on 28 May 1987. A teenage amateur pilot, he flew from Helsinki, Finland, to Moscow, without authorization. According to Russian claims he was tracked several times by Soviet Air Defence Forces and civilian air traffic controllers, as well as Soviet Air Force interceptor aircraft. The Soviet fighters did not receive permission to shoot him down, and his aeroplane was mistaken for a friendly aircraft several times. Also, 28 May 1987 was Border Guards Day, leaving many guards distracted. He landed on Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge, next to Red Square near the Kremlin in the capital of the USSR."

Update:

Russian Ministry of Defense: In Moscow and other Russian cities, the number of people wishing to enlist under contract in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation has significantly increased. Since the beginning of this year, more than 100,000 people have already done their military service under contract.

At the same time, over the past week and a half, a significant increase in the number of people wishing to sign contracts in order to participate in a special military operation was recorded at selection points for contract military service.

During interviews conducted last week in the selection points of Russian cities, most of the candidates indicated as the main motive for concluding a contract the desire to avenge the victims of the tragedy that occurred on March 22, 2024 in the region of Moscow.

Hmm........connecting the dots.
so Russian volunteer enlistment (concluding a contract) is climbing higher and higher because of a terrorist attack in Moscow on 3-22.
1,700 Russian country boys every day volunteering to join up to fight the terrorist attackers of "Mother Russia''.

So the average Russian now equates 3/22 to another famous date in America History, 9/11.
And we all know what happened after that event.

Sound about right to you?
Not so different, are they.

I've long thought that the Kamchatka peninsula would be an awesome retreat area with its pure wildness and abundant resources, but the idea of dodging volcanoes and ballistic missiles during testing does tend to dampen my ardor for the area.

Analysis and ramifications of recent Ukrainian drone attacks on oil refineries and transport hubs. Not good for Russia.
Russia is hitting Ukraine almost EVRY day with state of the art missiles and heavy bombers - has taken out - permanently - a large % of there Electrical Power generating capacity (on going). Yet we see them taking a Victory lap over ONE old Cessna managing to do some limited damage to a small building.
Ukrainian troops (as well documented by ALL SIDES) are being pushed West - forced to fall back. These "attacks" into Russia are minor - most damage is repaired in a few days - oil production and export continues.
There is only reason for these - PR and SPIN - that somehow Ukraine can win - don't talk about he actual line of contact which is collapsing.

As reported in the UK Guardian News outlet:
Army’s weakness prompted Kiev’s strikes on Russian infrastructure, senior officers tell The Guardian
Kiev has no other option but to launch attacks inside Russia, including on oil infrastructure, as its army faces continued setbacks on the battlefield, The Guardian has reported, citing the leadership of Ukraine’s military intelligence service, GUR.

Major General Vadim Skibitsky, the deputy head of GUR, said Kiev’s wished-for battlefield victory was impossible at the moment, which is why the agency had “no choice” but to launch strikes deep inside Russia.

France to Deploy 1,500 Soldiers to Ukraine, Strengthening Military Support Amidst Russian Tensions

In a significant development reported by Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, France is gearing up to deploy approximately 1,500 soldiers to Ukraine as early as this month. This move, aimed at bolstering Ukrainian forces, is set to escalate the military dynamics in the region amidst ongoing tensions with Russia.
Macron told the US and NATO that their involvement would not be necessary if French troops were hit in Ukraine.

This was reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

This is how the French president responded to Washington's objection that a possible deployment of the French to Ukraine and a Russian attack on them could draw Western countries into a conflict with Russia.

The latter message says:
Nothing other than "There will be no NATO case" if the French intervene in the fighting and are killed!

Although it is ONLY the Foreign Legion, therefore NO French citizens

Russia stops shipment of explosives from Ukraine hidden amidst icons

Russia stops shipment of explosives from Ukraine hidden amidst icons

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) and Federal Customs Service discovered and stopped a shipment of explosives coming from Ukraine.

The cargo, which had wound its way from Chernivtsi, Ukraine, through several European countries on its way to Russia, had dozens of kilos of explosives hidden amidst Orthodox icons and Church utensils, reports TASS.

There were enough explosives to blow up a 5-story apartment block, Department Head of the Interior Ministry’s Regional Forensic Center Dmitry Belotserkovsky said yesterday.
The explosives were attached to the back side of icon frames. FSB agents also found detonators.

According to the truck driver, he received the shipment at a warehouse in Romania, and having found nothing suspicious amongst the icons, he drove the boxes through Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia without incident before hitting the Russian border.

The postal information on the boxes shows Chernivtsi, Ukraine, as the starting point.

Russian authorities have been on high alert since a group of Tajik nationals committed a terrorist act at the Crocus City Hall concert venue outside Moscow on March 22. More than 140 people were killed and more than 500 injured in the attack. The perpetrators were captured while trying to flee to Ukraine.

French, Russian defence ministers hold telephone talks: Paris

French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu on Wednesday told Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu in rare telephone talks that France is ready to step up exchanges to battle “terrorism” after the deadly Moscow attack claimed by Islamic State.

The pair also discussed the war in Ukraine, with Lecornu reaffirming French support for Ukraine’s fight against Russia, the French defence ministry said.

Such a high-level contact between a senior Russian official close to President Vladimir Putin and a top minister from a European power has been rare in the two years since Russia’s invasion.

The one-hour talks between Shoigu and Lecornu came as France steps up preparations to host the Olympic Games this year. The March 22 attack on a Moscow concert hall revived security fears for the Paris Games which begin on July 26.

Lecornu told Shoigu that France was always ready to face down “terrorism” and was prepared for “increased exchanges with the aim of fighting this threat as effectively as possible,” a French defence ministry statement said.

Putin has acknowledged that “radical Islamists” conducted the attack in Moscow that left at least 144 people dead, but suggested they were linked to Ukraine.

Lecornu said that France had no information to establish a link to Ukraine, calling on Moscow “to stop all instrumentalisation” of the attack, the ministry said.

Lecornu reiterated “France’s firm condemnation and solidarity with the victims and their families,” the ministry said, adding that he “also unreservedly condemned the war of aggression that Russia has launched in Ukraine.”

Lecornu reminded Shoigu that “France will continue to support Ukraine as long and as intensely as necessary in its fight for freedom and sovereignty, in order to bring peace and security to the European continent,” the French ministry added.

President Emmanuel Macron said in March that France had offered Russian security services “increased cooperation” — adding that there would be contact on a “technical and ministerial level” rather than direct talks with Putin.

France’s Sports Minister Amelie Oudea-Castera said Wednesday that there was no “specific” terror threat to the Paris Olympics and that organisers were planning to go ahead with the opening ceremony on the river Seine with hundreds of thousands lining the banks.

France has been targeted by Islamist extremists multiple times, and French authorities have asked foreign allies to send several thousand security forces to help guard the Olympics, underlining the strains caused by the sporting extravaganza.

The French leader tried in a series of phone calls in 2022 to warn Putin against invading Ukraine and travelled to Moscow early that year.

He kept up phone contact with Putin even after the invasion but talks have now ceased, with the last call between the presidents dating back to September 2022.

Macron has in recent months toughened his line against Russia, refusing to rule out putting troops on the ground in Ukraine.

Lecornu and Shoigu last held phone talks in October 2022.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken held a phone call in April 2023, and Shoigu spoke to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin the month before.

Lavrov regularly travels to G20 meetings, but there is no indication he speaks directly with Western officials there.

From what I've been told, it's a lot like Alaska.
Yup, and there are a ton of big earthquakes on the Kamchatka peninsula as well. But if you live in a yurt then you won't have to worry about a lot of falling debris, assuming you avoid avalanche chutes and very tall trees with shallow root systems. Oh, and the Sea of Okhotsk is said to be a major playground for Russian ballistic missile subs (the sea is bigger than the Gulf of Mexico).

They can waste their time. Ukraine will be finished by the end of this year; or we will all be in WWIII and Ukraine will be moot, and blackened by then.

Hummmm......any of the ground crew work on Ron Brown's B-737?
Word on the street, two years after, ummmm, suggested that a small mobile transponder and team misdirected that plane into a low mountain during the rain storm that was taking place at the time. Same word said it WAS a rainstorm and not a slight drizzle. Mr. Brown had just threatened to quit the Bill and Hillary Club the week before the moiders.

We can perhaps hope he is just going through the motions - and if and when any bill is put out it will be so poisoned pilled it would be impossible to get it past the Senate. But Republicans have a LONG history of folding - going to be an interesting few weeks.

NATO establishes Ukraine mission – Polish FM

The new initiative will allow the bloc to support Kiev in a “more coordinated manner,” Radoslaw Sikorski said
NATO establishes Ukraine mission – Polish FM

NATO countries have created a joint mission in Ukraine in order to expand the scope of support the US-led bloc can provide to Kiev, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski announced on Thursday.

Speaking to journalists following a meeting to commemorate the 75th anniversary of NATO, Sikorski declared that the bloc has decided to create a new “mission.” He stressed, however, that “this does not mean that we are going to war, but it does mean that we will now be able to use the coordination, training, planning capabilities of NATO to support Ukraine in a more coordinated manner.”
Specifically, he pointed out that under the new initiative, Ukrainian troops will be more actively trained in Poland.

Sikorski earlier told reporters that the bloc members were planning to discuss the creation of a mission during a two-day meeting of NATO foreign ministers that concluded on Thursday. He explained at the time that the idea is “to use the capabilities of the pact to train Ukrainians, use logistics and other joint elements.”

The Polish diplomat also suggested that such a format would not be “confrontational for Moscow.”

The head of the State Duma’s defense committee, Andrey Kartapolov, responded to the move by stating that the creation of a NATO mission in Ukraine could be an attempt to legalize the bloc’s next steps. “We will watch them carefully,” he told the news outlet RIA on Thursday.

Sikorski’s announcement comes as Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has described the current state of relations between Russia and NATO as a “direct confrontation” and has accused the US-led military bloc of acting as a destabilizing factor in Europe.

Moscow has for years repeatedly criticized NATO’s expansion towards Russia’s borders and has cited the bloc’s policies and increased involvement in Ukraine as being among the key reasons for launching its offensive against Kiev in 2022.

I remember in the early days of this blog, one of the most common and constant questions was: “Do you think time is on Russia or the West’s side?” The sentiment from many of the doubters, doomers, or concern-trolls was that time was against Russia, as NATO would only grow stronger, produce more, Ukraine would gather far more men because these commenters didn’t believe Russia’s claims of Ukrainian casualties.

I ask you: What do you think now? Still believe time is on NATO and Ukraine’s side?

It sure doesn’t seem like it these days. I say this as preface to the fact that Russia is slowly taking its time, continuing to build its armaments and potential, and very gradually closing the constrictor squeeze on Ukraine from all sides. Recent rumblings indicate that Ukraine is unable to determine where Russia could choose to strike a more major line-breaking assault due to the nature of Russia’s air strikes not being limited to one particular theater, but destroying Ukraine’s infrastructure in a widespread fashion.

Rezident UA:

MI6 transmitted information to the Presidential Office and the General Staff that the Russian Army had accumulated a large number of Missiles/Lancets/Shaheds and Aerial Bombs for the summer counteroffensive. British intelligence assumes that the Kremlin wants to organize a demonstrative mass attack on several sectors of the front in order to destroy as many Ukrainian military personnel as possible. The main goal of such an attack will be a psychological factor in order to demonstrate the full potential of the Russian army and break the comparison with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This plays into new rumors of the Russian Svatovo-Kremennaya front being re-activated to other rumors about Chasov Yar being next for major assault. My point is to highlight the fact that Russia is playing with Ukraine’s sense of uncertainty, and can choose to strike either in Kupyansk or Bakhmut or Zaporozhye, and Ukraine will not be prepared.

We’ve outlined in previous reports how Russia uses its far superior logistical mobility means to constantly hit Ukraine on different axes via the ‘death by a thousand cuts’ strategy, and Ukraine is unable to shift its defenses and reserves fast enough. New reports underline this, for instance:

Ukraine’s “mechanized” brigades are literally being downgraded to foot soldier meat hordes due to lack of vehicles.

Russia made recent progress in the areas west of Bakhmut and are now preparing to launch the assault on Chasov Yar.

From a Russian army affiliated channel:

Russian forces ready to begin seminal Chasov Yar assault: "Our maps for Chasov Yar have already been drawn, roles have been assigned, executors have been appointed. Everything is ready, as soon as the bridgehead on the Canal is ready - we will start."
Sputnik covers why this town is critical:

Why Chasov Yar's Liberation is Critical to Oust Ukrainian Military From Donbass

In short, they explain that Chasov Yar is a key railway hub and sits on a hill overlooking the entire AFU defense agglomeration of the region, which previously included Bakhmut, but now is centered on Kramatorsk-Slavyansk-Konstantinovka.

In the meantime, there are increasing ‘whispers’ of the eventual total evacuation of Kharkov city. Not only due to the electricity problems after Russia’s hits on the region’s power plant, but in anticipation of a new potential front being opened from the north.

Road leaving Kharkov:

Exodus of the population from Kharkov. After statements by the local administration that the entire infrastructure in the city was destroyed, constant problems with electricity the exodus of the population began from the city. The regular bombings by the Russian Air Force and rumors that fighting is about to begin here certainly added to the situation.
And here top Ukrainian accounts mention the unthinkable, with city officials claiming there’s no need to evacuate….yet:

And even as of this writing, there is a large ongoing attack on Kharkov, with videos pouring out of strikes landing in the already de-powered city.

With the situation as dire as it looks, there are reports that Zelensky has finally swallowed the bitter pill and pulled the trigger on the first main step of the long-feared mobilization bill to lower the age from 27 to 25:

CNN confirms:

https://edition.cnn.com/2024/04/02/europe/zelensky-signs-conscription-law-intl/index.html
CNN —
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a law that will lower the country’s minimum conscription age from 27 to 25,
potentially boosting the number of men available to fight Russia’s invasion.
However, it’s not quite what it seems just yet:

The law signed by Zelensky on Tuesday lowers the age they can be drafted to 25, but leaves the mobilization age at 27, However, the Ukrainian Parliament is also considering a bill that would reduce the mobilization age to 25.
You see, this allows them to be drafted at 25, but not yet mobilized onto the actual frontline. The Rada will supposedly vote in April to lower the full mobilization age to 25 as well. Hence, this still means nothing quite yet.

It’s unclear what if anything this will accomplish. Recall I had just posted a video of a top Ukrainian official stating that a reduction to 25 will do nothing, such is the depletion of Ukraine’s forces; he said it needs to be lowered straight down to 19.

Zelensky himself refuses to divulge how many will be mobilized, blaming Russia for the need on the fake claim that Russia itself intends a huge new call-up in June:

Top Russian senators Kartapolov and Gurulev’s responses to the above? “Cocaine’s a helluva drug.”

In one of the earlier articles, Zelensky said that he intends to mobilize more men in order to prepare another offensive for later this year. His reason was revealing: that if Ukraine doesn’t attack first, Russia will do so.

His explanation gives away Ukraine’s strategy. In 2023 Russia sat back and defended against Ukraine’s large ‘offensive’, so here Zelensky appears to believe that if Ukraine can launch some semblance of another attack, it will delay or negate Russia’s own mass offensive which everyone seems to be expecting for this year. This would be Ukraine’s ploy to continue buying time for themselves: launch another futile, fruitless meat attack with massive losses, exchanging tens of thousands of lives for a few more borrowed months for Zelensky’s illegitimate regime from going to the gallows.
