NEW YORK (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has contacted producers of about 20 drugs that either source all of their main ingredients from or are finished in China to gauge if they will face shortages due to the coronavirus outbreak.

None of the companies reported that a shortage is expected for their drugs due to the outbreak, an FDA spokeswoman said.

I think Rush was promoting Pres Trump's position to keep the markets propped up.

Speaking of Pres Trump. I was profoundly disappointed with his tweet downlplaying this disease. I understand it, but I'm still disappointed. He's running for reelection. The main achievement he's been touting is the robust economy and the booming stock market. If the market crashes over the next few months, he IS worried what that does to his reelection chances, and he is worried if that will move Bernie into a winning position. All the things Rush was saying. I wouldn't be surprised if the two had a conversation and I wouldn't be surprised if Trump asked Rush to do what he could to calm the markets.

HD

If Trump WANTS to look Presidential during this, he should issue a serious, but not somber, tweet / statements that we are indeed facing a serious situation with the Coronavirus, but that he will authorize / activate all possible / necessary means of combating this in America, etc., etc.,and finish with something along the lines of "It is my FIRST responsibility,as the President, to do all I can to PROTECT the American people, and as such I will use all means available to me to do exactly that to the fullest extent possible."

no independent confirmation. take with salt.

my niece works for an major international company with a factory in wuhan. she is part of the emergency team at her plant. the company gives daily briefings with officials (this is a secure facility).

-they are planning to shelter a maintenance and production team on site throughout any quarantine.

-being told virus can live on surfaces for 7 weeks.

I’m seeing a lot of tweets full of doom from “officials” but I search CDC and mainstream news and I don’t see it. Does anyone have legitimate links with info from the CDC saying prepare for pandemic? If I can get “official” news I may be able to convince my bosses this is real and prepare for it.

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday that it appears inevitable that COVID-19 will spread in U.S. communities. Officials say it’s no longer a matter of if, but when.

The CDC says the agency is preparing to address the potential spread of the new coronavirus in the U.S. and it's encouraging Americans to begin planning as well.

If the virus begins to spread amongst Americans, the CDC says it will becomes increasingly important to implement basic precautions to prevent more infections. That includes staying home when ill and practicing respiratory and hand hygiene.

Additionally, the CDC says community level intervention might include school dismissals and social distancing in other settings, like postponing or canceling large gatherings. Officials said it may become necessary for students and the workforce to meet over the internet, instead of in person.

The virus is believed to have originated from Wuhan, China, where early patients had some link to a large seafood and live animal markets.

The CDC says more than 2,400 people have died from COVID-19 worldwide, with a majority of the deaths in mainland China. However, other countries are now battling sizable outbreaks as well.

Europe’s biggest outbreak is in Italy, where more than 280 people have reportedly been infected. Iran has reported at least 95 cases. And, South Korea has more than 970 cases.

As of Tuesday, the CDC had confirmed 14 cases in the United States, 12 being travel-related and two from person-to-person spread. A total of 43 cases have been confirmed in the group of people repatriated to the U.S. from either Wuhan or the Diamond Princess cruise ship off the coast of Japan, the CDC says.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.

Blizzard is tied in pretty good. He was right last weekend when he told us they were moving from prevention to mitigation as the CDC just told us. The markets yesterday and today are responding with ‘oh $hit it’s coming’ when in reality we know it is already has been here for awhile and they know they can’t hide it much longer so are now trying to get ahead of it.

Now THIS is what should be done, bring in trailers for workers to live in, semi,s full of food, and run the factory, lock it all up.

About 1,000 holidaymakers at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel in south Tenerife have been ordered to remain in their rooms and will be tested for the coronavirus this evening, according to a guest.

Police officers have been pictured surrounding the building and guests were not been served lunch, while hotel employees who arrived for work today were made to wait outside and were never let inside, after health authorities in the Canary Islands ordered the hotel to be locked down after an Italian doctor tested positive for the virus on Monday.

Rosie Mitford, an 18-year-old nursing student on holiday with her father and brother, said she was “a bit fed up”
We’ve been in our rooms for about five hours now and had no food. We’re all a bit fed up and tired about this now, but we feel fine, physically, so that’s good.

We’ve just been updated they’re going to test us once tonight and once tomorrow morning, apparently they are temperature tests.

This morning, there was a breakfast buffet at 8am with fruit and yoghurt, and guests were told lunch would be brought to their rooms, but by 5.30pm at least some people were still waiting. This was most likely down to staff shortages, according to Mitford.

Staff have not been allowed in for the whole day. They have been sat on the streets getting pretty angry as they had been in the sun for about six hours.

Staff inside wearing big proper masks, that we haven’t been given. They’ve been very helpful, they’re just trying to deal with it.

The nursing student said she is passing the time doing university work, but has been taking photos and watching events ensue outside the hotel.

Police are everywhere. There’s chains and padlocks on the gates outside, along with police vans.

She was meant to go home on Sunday but because of a sandstorm her flight got cancelled, while her flight yesterday also suffered the same fate as the crew had worked too long. On both occasions she spent about six hours in the airport.

Then, today, she woke up ready to go to her airport and found a note left under her door saying not to leave. However, she is remaining calm and not allowing herself to become frustrated following a series of unfortunate events.

Its not really a panicking vibe. Everyone is just milling about staying in their rooms. But they are not telling us much, everything we have found out has been from looking online.

Hope this resolves quickly and does not turn into the "Hotel Corona".

I know that I'm a bit late in asking this question, but I'm gonna ask it anyway.

After reading every page of this thread, I remember reading that it might be a good idea to either have a vaporizer or a humidifier. I can't remember which one it was. I would like to know which one would be best to have on hand. I had a dehumidifier at one time, because our house gets damp in the winter months, and we have moisture problems during the summer with our humidity getting so high. I remember my mom used a vaporizer when my sister was a baby, because she had bronchitis a lot.

That article from official news sources is just what I needed. Thanks!!

If Trump wants to beat Bernie (who's promising free healthcare for all) he should announce that everyone will get *free testing for corona and free medical treatment if they test positive with corona.

And then peel into a big medical system overhaul, all those things the GOP wanted to do -and said they'd do- when Obama rolled out obamacare.

*test kits limited to stock on hand, not all patents will be tested and other lawyer speak

We have a diffuser that we use with essential oils, which can be helpful to add anti-viral oils like oregano, tea tree, or Thieves, or bronchial oils like eucalyptus. Plus, I've found that a diffuser is easier to disinfect. You can find inexpensive ones most anywhere, including Amazon and Walmart.

RED ALERT!
Rumor that the virus can stay alive on *PAPER MONEY* for a few days. What does this mean? Should we go spend all of our paper money on stuff ASAP?

I'm not a doctor so verify this through other sources. I read that the Chinese have ordered 10,000 vaporizers to spray colloidal silver mist into hospitals. We use homemade CS here and I'm considering buying a vaporizer to do the same thing in our home.

Thank you. I'm a firm believer in using essential oils, and have a nice collection of them, even the ones you've mentioned. I will check on getting a diffuser. I was trying to remember which one uses the Vick's Vapor Steam with it, a vaporizer?

This is just my cheesy 2c worth, expectations not news. If it turns out to not be applicable now, the future still awaits.

The church in South Korea is a convenient scapegoat there as blame will be assigned to someone. Blame is not a binary choice and different segments of society and government will choose different recipients. Only if you are an advocate of reason is this a contradiction. The teachings of this particular church are irrelevant, and irregardless of true culpability, those that are unpopular with government or the media will be targeted. If any “Christian” denomination or sect can be made responsible in the public’s view, all denominations will be tarnished. Many governments would like to blame “the fishers of men” for this pan ick.

I really expect quite massive social changes in many countries if this is like the Spanish Flu of 1918. This “Fourth Turning” may be more of a “Fourth Tumbling” than most. In the US we may have “Bern the nation” by November, in China a revolution, and in the world, a new world order although not the one expected. Revision and reincarnation of the social order, not a total collapse. Tear down the old and build the new, starting with the population, or the fuze could fizzle and we will have to learn quickly how to laugh at ourselves. The latter would be nice; I could use more peace of mind.

Please put some kind of summary.

Some peeps dont have the data to stream or don't have a half hour to listen and sift out the relevant bits.

Thanks.

Sorry MW - I've only been able to listen to a small portion and have to leave for a while. I hope someone else here has an opportunity to objectively sift through it for us. From what I was able to listen so far, we're gearing up for community spread and the implications are going to impact the population. Her demeanor and delivery might have some bearing, it's during the first few minutes.
