“The weakness of prepping alone is that a lot of the preppers, but not all, have low level survival skills and maybe haven't prepared their body for the physical demands of survival, it really is too late to get fit when bell strikes.”

Hunkering down doesn't require the ability to schlep a hundred pound rucksack five miles. For most people, what survival takes is food.

Glenn Beck....today on corona virus.

People should prepare.

This is a major economic event.

We want to delay this as much as possible so we can get into the summer and it will go away....till next fall, it gives us even more time to prepare.

Prepare to self quarantine.

People won't be going to movies, or going out to eat...it starts a trickle down thru other businesses.

Churches are going to have to start figuring out how they are going to meet.

Possible closing of schools, stopping trade shows, sporting events....more loss of businesses.

Face to face interaction should be limited. No hand shaking.

Prepare to be quarantined for up to 2 weeks...food and water.

Huge demand in emergency supplies...they are now at least 2 weeks out.
Go to Costco and buy peanut butter, powdered milk, tuna...high protein stuff.
The government may have to do bail outs because the economy is so bad.

Possible vaccine in the works. A brand new type of vaccine...using a synthetic rna strand of virus.
Hoping the effects will be the same.

The US had a global test of pandemic 2 years ago world wide. The US did the best, that is why we have so few number of people infected.

Real economic trouble is on the way.

You must be ready for empty shelves at the grocery store. Only people that lived thought the depression have seen things the way it is going to be.

How can you do that? Some one said it only comes from China???
Ok, wiseguy... the only *commercial* production of ascorbic acid is in China. They deliberately undercut everyone else's prices for a few years until they ran the competition out of business.

We still have citrus fruits, spruce needles, rosehips, and sweet peppers...

Chickens, rabbits, and goats don't take a lot of strength to maintain. Given water, food stores, a wood pile, and some propane, it's doable. When the feed store closes, they can eat off what grows in the yard. We didn't sell the pecan crop this year. My health sucks, but we are good for several months.

No I don’t. She is not the head of the CDC or the deputy director for that matter. They are the ones that give guidance and everything that she says is approved by them because she does not set CDC policy. The question is is she/are they giving sound medical advice or not? They are way behind the power curve on this and as a nation we are not prepared for pandemic. They are trying to catch up and get ahead of it because they have to now.

Even if because of our sanitation we dodge the worse of it that isn’t going to put medicines and goods on our shelves that China isn’t making right now. This is bigger than the election and bigger than Trump if you have your eyes open to what is going on around the world.
Yes, economically it is bigger. There will be some shortages, no doubt. But, don't think that this will not be used to attack President Trump. But, for H1N1, H5N1 and ebola, the shelves were not bare.

The leftists need you to panic. Period.

We have no idea what the real mortality rate is yet. Wait and see what it is from the Western nations before panicking is my only message.

I'll say it, Glenn Beck is a schmuck/whore who will do anything for ratings, in my humble opinion.

Change my mind.

Day by day

Today's update from Camp Humphreys, SK

USFK Update:

February 26, 2020

Out of a strong abundance of caution and utilizing the USFK Commander's authorities to protect the USFK population from COVID-19, USFK raised its risk level to "HIGH" - also referred to as USFK's Health Protection Condition Charlie (HPCON C).

The following health protection measures associated with HPCON C are mandatory for USFK service members peninsula-wide and highly encouraged for family members, DoD civilian employees, contractors, and others who frequent USFK installations; this list is not comprehensive, and when in doubt, seek clarification from your chain of command:

- Service members are restricted from attending non-essential off-installation activities and social events including eat-in seated dining (take-out is allowed), shopping, bars, clubs, movie theaters or locations that have more than 20 people (waiverable by O6 CDR)
- Service members are allowed to conduct "necessary duties" off-post such as travel to and from work, groceries shopping and necessary item purchases (waiverable by O6 CDR)
- Civilian employees and contractors who are deemed non-essential personnel do not have to come to work; seek guidance from your immediate supervisor if this applies to you

Additional HPCON C mitigation measures can include the following and apply to everyone:

- limit non-mission essential in-person meetings, gatherings, and temporary duty travel and assignments
- expect longer wait time to access installations, temperature checks, and screening questionnaires at gates.
- limit and use extreme caution when travelling off-installation

In addition to the above, please continue to practice strict proper hygiene procedures:

- wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use alcohol based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available
- do not touch your face, nose or eyes with unclean hands
- avoid close or unnecessary contact with other, including handshaking.
- avoid non-mission essential large gatherings
- clean all common-use areas and items
- avoid travel or contact with others while sick
- most importantly -- if feeling sick or ill, avoid going to work, school or exposure to large gatherings and seek medical treatment
Remember, good hygiene practice is the best preventive measure to controlling the spread of viruses. We must protect the force and our community by maintaining our "Fight Tonight" readiness!

What makes him think this is "going away" in the summer? I think he's confusing Covid-19 with ordinary flu.
Remember what I said about the Spanish Flu --- the second and most deadly round of it began around July - August of 1918. For Glenn and anyone else seasonally challenged - that's summer!

I can’t find it listed on this size but on other sizes it lists Nov. 2016 as a current batch expiration date.
Does this make a difference?

I just got a two pound batch earlier this month and expiration is 082021 so it’s good for a year and a half.

Yeah, this does not surprise me at all. ALL ALONG I was sitting here scratching my head at the "quarantines" in China where people can't leave their homes, but have their food delivered to them. Hello? Someone is making that food. Someone is packing that food. And someone is delivering that food. I understand these people needed to eat, but it was short-sighted to think that people should be preparing food who aren't trained in proper PPE and who weren't continuously tested for the virus.

Could be food workers ARE continuously tested. But the test amounts to a temperature check, so she's been infectious and passing it on for the last week or so.

Hard to see how people can think that ordering take-out qualifies as quarantine.

Have you been reading this thread at all? Lot's of panic here.

Wait and judge this comment two weeks from now.
You call this thread panicked . I have seen most people reaction as informed reaction.. This is not a normal situation This is a Pandemic. We have to start preparing as a Nation for that. Normal biases.... will get you nowhere... Tomorrow is not going to be like it was yesterday...

How many crematoriums do we have?

In the concentration camps, when crematoria were hopelessly overloaded, they'd make a grid of railroad tracks above the ground, stack bodies on them, and light a fire beneath. People are inventive, if you find that reassuring.

Oh, fully agree the left will use this against him no matter what he does, that is a given. Putting out good information can prevent a panic. Playing it down, saying it’s like the flu and no big deal and then coming out the next day and calling it a pandemic can cause a real panic. The government has been downplaying this and if Trump does this tonight I think that is an error. We are not ready for a pandemic and ask any medical professionals here about our surge capacity and supply situation will probably confirm it.

There is a tightrope between putting out good information without sugar coating it and projecting overconfidence. It’s not going to be nearly as bad here medically as China but that is only the half of it. The economic and supply chain disruptions that will remove essentials from the shelves of our stores and critical raw materials and parts needed to manufacture products made here is going to impact every one of us and we better not overlook it. In this country 30% of what we need is sourced from China and the whole of China is basically shut down. That never happened with SARS, MERS or Ebola. Different animals and apples vs oranges. Production never shut down with the other diseases.

He said 'going away', but then said it would give us more time to prepare over the summer before it returned again in the fall/winter. I think it is because during the summer the flu seems to abate. Only time will tell if this follows that trend.

I have no idea what the people in those Wuhan high-rise apts. are eating. Heard reports of delivery robots...really? Yet, it is also widely reported that the Chinese don't tend to store much food at home - they prefer to shop daily for fresh food. You seal up hundreds of people in a bldg. of re-circulated stale air, and the food vector might not be much of an issue anyway. But the authorities sure are intent on fogging decontaminate chemicals in the streets!

Horrific, and just...bizarre.

This is what I've been trying to get across to my family. They don't have to believe the bug will get here if they don't want to. All they have to know is that it's real to the Chinese, and it's going to bite all of us. So if they prep for supply disruptions, they'll be prepped for the bug, which is damn sure here.
