USPS Priority packages from Tampa to Richmond, Va always get there in 2 days. This month one Priority took 11 days and another 13 days. Tracking showed they sat in a Richmond distribution center for a week before going out the local post office for delivery. Local post office person told me the whole PO system is buried in package deliveries for Amazon and Walmart. Find options and plan ahead.

Good luck if you mailed at our local PO, my daughter has been selling stuff after losing her job. The service here was so bad she started driving to next town. She has more than one package damaged and they refused to pay the claim.
I'm not sure the name of the town makes much difference. We are in southwest Missouri, my daughter mailed a parcel (oversized envelope, not even a package) and it took eight days to get to Kansas City, M0. You can drive there from our house in three and a half hours. Don't know how much longer it will take to get to its final destination of Tennessee. USPS service is abysmal and they don't even seem to care.

Our Kroger , central Indiana, was stuffed full of meat and food from Christmas, all on sale.

Lots of it, too.

The only thing I thought odd, was that their Kroger brand chicken sold in family packs, was NOT the usual chicken they’ve had for years.... it was a brand called Heritage Farms ( pretty sure that’s it)

It was all on clearance sale so maybe that’s all they had or it had been brought out from storage somewhere so they could get rid of it?

Oh yeah, to add, ....all other aisles seemed well stocked, even toilet paper. I only peeked down those aisles because I only needed to stick up some meat, but they seemed pretty full

Just to add to the package/letters delay: today the rest of the Christmas cards and packages that were sent to me in central IA arrived via USPS. The postmarks go back to Dec. 5. All were domestic from OH, IL, and FL. Everything I was expecting is accounted for.

Store: I did a flash shopping trip as we are expecting 6+ inches of snow here tomorrow. I went after lettuce and whatever fresh fruit I could find. Unlike before Christmas, not much was there. I did get more grapefruit and kiwi. Meat section was good but baked goods, canned goods, paper goods, freezer foods, dairy, and even wine and spirits were hit hard. They are expecting a truck tomorrow, but I'm not going out.

I made two loaves of rye bread right before Christmas and froze one. The store bought stuff is just awful right now.

Our latest chapter in the USPS meltdown saga is that we mailed an eBay purchase from Austin to a buyer in rural PA. We mailed the package on the 5th. Got a message from the buyer today; still hasn't gotten the package. Tracking says the package just got to Philly after spending three weeks at the DC in Dallas. Those poor USPS employees. Our neighborhood carrier starts at 5:00 AM picking up packages and is still delivering mail at 4 PM in the afternoon. I don't blame the USPS or its employees at all. To use a well-worn cliche, this is a perfect storm of circumstances which is stressing the USPS infrastructure. This could not have been foreseen; another old cliche is that you don't build a church for Easter Sunday.

Saved, to glorify God.
i wanted a package of 50 1oz Kraft cream cheese pouches (in foil) (they last forever in the fridge, no more throwing away moldy cream cheese! I looked on the internet and They are $41plus $9 shipping at Amazon but I went to my small, (not a national chain) grocery market, and saw them there for $.50 each pouch, so I asked to buy the whole 50 pack and paid $25 and took em home with “no shipping!” Better $.50 each than the $1 each from Amazon!
I used to get them cheaper from COSTCO, but suddenly, they ONLY sell them to businesses NOW!

Found Progresso Soup on sale $1.50 a can. Picked up a case. They're on sale just about every where. Don't know why they go on sale this time of year I'm just glad they do. The deal I picked up was found in a flyer for a drug store chain. They were cheaper there than at the grocery stores.

They make a nice instant, comfort food snack or meal. The only thing I don't like about them is the high sodium content. While they are shelf safe the dates have to be watched and the cans rotated.

The USPS has some issues for sure, but I recently read of a way to help get a package moving. I read about this on another forum and it worked for me. I ordered a package mid-December. The last location was leaving North or South Dakota. It was supposed to take a five or six days. After no package, I completed the on-line "Where is my package?" form at this webpage: Email Us

Sometimes packages don't get certain scans that show detailed results, to the public. If you note on their website, you can pay extra for more detailed tracking. In other words, the USPS knows where the bulk of the "unknown status" packages are, they are just so overwhelmed that they were only loading a certain amount of packages. Within two days of my request being sent, magically my package was being delivered that day. I even got a call from my local PO saying it was out on the truck. It seems that the boxes are already at the local PO, they just have so many to deliver they can't get to them all. If you fill out the form it is possible they will locate that specific box and make sure it gets on the route truck.

Yesterday DH went out to get more propane tanks for the grill. We are in Holland , Michigan. He found out that Wesco, where he usually gets them, did not have any (Blue Rhino full replacement tanks). They said they didn't know when they would have more. So he also went to the Shell gas station and they also didn't have any. We do still have 2 full tanks but are hoping to find some more.

Find an LP place that will fill them.

Cheeper and you get more.

Exchange tanks are only getting filled to 15lbs now.

This week between Christmas and New Years is sort of a black hole. More people taking time off, stores have less traffic, and probably fewer deliveries.

I have recently discovered USPS "Informed Delivery". Sorta cool to be able to see what is coming in the mail on the morning before delivery, although it isn't perfect, as it doesn't seem to scan and inform about packages. At least it lets you know if bills/letters are incoming, and if it's worth it to check the mailbox on a given day.

We have been doing work on our property here in southern AZ. DH went to hardware store yesterday and was told by the store manager that pvc pipe--electrical and regular-is getting very hard for them to find. Stores like Lowes and Home Depot are having problems keeping it in stock also. This also goes for fittings. We have been working on another project that uses Mexican brick. It is no where to be found in all of Yuma area and the stores that carry it have no idea when or if they will get any more. Major bummer for me because I am building a walkway that uses Mexican brick. It is half way done--so I will have to come up with plan B. I was hoping to get this project done before the heat sets back in.

If Team Commie manages to complete the steal, will there be an epic run on the stores?

I think so. I know people around here aren't taking any chances. They're already making stock up runs. We've been going a bit overboard with adding to our storage ourselves, once it began to look like Biden may get away with the steal. We decided it might be too late if we waited.

For seeing Jan. 20th as our "get done by" date, we are finalizing our plans accordingly. I hope we are surprised, and a miracle takes place before then.

The only good thing about exchange services is swapping out old tanks for current tanks.

Turn an out of hydrostat, non-OPD, $5 garage sale tank into a $45 good tank....with some LP in it.

PREDICTION: the well stocked stores were for the Holidays to keep the sheep complacent. After the new year I believe we'll begin to see food and goods stocks decrease slowly then rapidly due to wuflu v 2.0.
I'm kinda wondering about this. For the forseeable future the stores may be well stocked and the stores could see a decline in their weekly business because there are many of us that really don't "need" to go to the grocery store for a good while. Then of course there are the last minute shoppers who have no clue.

Have noticed the total disappearance of 1 pound green Colman propane tanks no one has any. My Wally World has probably received on 30 in the last 4 weeks

I give up.
FL - Went shopping this afternoon. Winn-Dixie is having lots of sales, so we scooped up a bunch. Spent $125 (a lot for us in one week), BUT register receipt says with all the sale items we saved $51.13. Not too shabby. I should go back, but I think I'll wait a couple of days and make that Publix run and see if they really do have Friendship cottage cheese, as a member pm'd me about. Also they have other things I want that WD doesn't carry, so that would be wonderful.

Went to the grocery store (Meijer in Northern Michigan) and there were surprisingly a lot of big gaping holes. Could be that it’s after Christmas, plus we’re supposed to get two big snow storms this week. Still, it was the most holes I’ve seen in a long time. I had to make a special stop at Walgreens to get hubby some stool softeners. They were completely out.

I just ordered Libby's Country Sausage Gravy from Amazon. The price had been $19.99 for the longest time and now its gone down to $13.44 even a bit less if you do S&S. We really like this stuff and since I don't know how to make gravy, I like to keep it well stocked.

I've bought, and tried some of their sausage gravy, but Cary didn't like it. I still have some on my pantry shelves. I like it ok, and I'm not about to throw it out. I prefer homemade, but it does give the option of a quick meal with hot biscuits.

Neither here nor there.

Yes, I'm hearing rumblings now on facespy folks are stocking up and saying why they are stocking up, all the while the karens of this world are taking note and are publically shaming those stocking up calling them selfish hoarders. I loved when one person said to one particular karen in the AldiNerd group... there's NOTHING stopping you from stocking up as well, and then all of the preppers dumped on that particular karen. Up until that point the karens were telling those that are prepping that "they are the problem". Now they know that we see them, the karens, as being the problem.

Sausage gravy is the easiest gravy to make. Please give it a try.

Ingredients
  • ▢ 1 Pound Ground Pork Sausage
  • ▢ 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • ▢ 1/3 Cup Flour
  • ▢ 3 Cups Milk
  • ▢ 1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ▢ 1/4 teaspoon Seasoned Salt
  • ▢ 1/4 teaspoon Salt, More to taste
  • ▢ 1 teaspoon Black Pepper, More to taste
  • Instructions
    • Brown the sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat until no longer pink.
    • Add the butter to the pan and stir it around until melted.
    • Sprinkle the flour over the sausage and stir for 2 minutes.
    • Pour the milk into the sausage and flour mixture slowly, whisking constantly until smooth.
    • Whisk in the seasonings. Taste the gravy and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Old Gray Mare I have the same issue with Progresso soups. They do make several varieties in low sodium. I use the low sodium tomato and chicken noodle.

Judy,

I am slowly learning to cook, and one thing my wife taught me (after she tried to eat some of my excuse for Thanksgiving gravy) was to make the following gravy recipe:

One can of cream of chicken soup (can sub a different cream soup if you want);

One packet of dried onion soup mix;

and one soup can filled with water.

Mix these ingredients together and then simmer on top of stove until gravy is smooth and the right temp.

if you get tired of the Libby gravy, this is pretty good.
