Alternative cures for hemorrhoids

Does anyone have any suggestions? Preparation H isn't helping my wife's problem. There are expensive medications out there, but I thought I'd ask here first.

I haven't tried it personally, but I have read that witch hazel is supposed to help. It's only a little over a dollar a bottle I think. It is supposed to help with the itching if I remember correctly.

Washing every time you go to the bath room then apply vitamin E. Taking zinc tablets also helps. Eat lots of carrots.

Sounds like time for some diet changes and possibly work changes? Standing all day at work is counterproductive for hemorrhoids - gravity work agains you! Assumming a knee/chest position with rump high in the air helps somewhat to reposition the innards, best done at night in bed so one can then just assume a prone position and give the innards a chance to recoup a more natural position. Witch Hazel is supposedly good for shrinking the problem - use externally not drink!

A little old lady patient of mine told me that by flattening out soap and (somehow) placing it over the hemorrhoid helps. Said that's what they did in the old days.
Witch Hazel is a good remedy too.
And generics work as well as the other stuff.
I hear prep H is also good for wrinkles......... :shr:

;) Okay, this may sound really strange but it did work for my DH.

I had heard or read don't remember now where I got it from it's been
so long ago.
Take the inside of the peeling of the banana and rub it on the
hemorrhoids. My husband had tried everything and nothing was
working and so I suggested he try this and it worked.

Don't laugh....try putting a small stepping stool in front of the toilet and resting your feet on it while you 'go'. Takes the pressure off the hemeroids by assuming a more natural position. BG

While I know this more of an alternative medicine board, I'm going to suggest an alternative to Rx meds.
Several years ago my doc prescribed ANUCORT-HC (hydrocortisone Acetate 25mg) for this problem, I sat down and read the ingredients and low and behold over the counter 10% Cortaid has basically the same stuff, so when I ran out I applied the Cortaid to the 'problems' and low and behold IT WORKED! And the cost was MUCH CHEAPER!
I've heard of people that used a wedge of potatoe to cool down the "problems,' allow potatoe to sit in the fridge til cold, slice it to size and apply directly to the spot.... they swore by it, frankly I figure potatoes are better served when eaten. :shkr:
