A Muslim woman who sued Ramsey County when she was forced to remove her hijab for a booking photo reached a $170,000 settlement that includes policy changes to keep it from happening to other Muslim women.
“I can’t ever be made whole after this experience… but I am grateful to know that any other woman detained by Ramsey County will not experience what I did,” she said. Al-Kadi’s comments were made at the Council on American-Islamic Relations office in Minneapolis.

The non-profit organization Muslims Giving Back (MGB) just announced its first-ever scholarship program for Muslim students in NYC.
The scholarship is named Developing Resources to Empower American Muslims, or the Muslim DREAM for short. Its mission? To reward “academically motivated students and alleviate the financial burden of getting an education in New York City.”
This year 10 students will be awarded $1,000 each. But that is not all. With the cash prize, the winners will also have the opportunity to receive mentoring from Muslim professionals in their field of interest.
The qualifications to apply? Be a Muslim student in college who is involved in the community and has demonstrated a history of service

“For many students, faith is a vital part of their lives that enhances academic and extracurricular success and future career endeavors,” said CAIR Director of Maryland Outreach Zainab Chaudry. “We are pleased that the Morgan State University administration has not only committed to extending the interfaith chapel hours for student use but has also pledged to incorporate ‘serenity sanctuaries’ in future expansion projects on campus.”
