Dennis - why don't we have a Garden prefix???

I planted some broccoli rab, first time for us. It's about five inches tall. When do I harvest it, and what do I do with it once it's harvested?

Lidia Bastianich (Lidia's Italy) has a broccoli rabe/ditalini dish that my family likes a lot. I'm traveling and can't get to it at the moment.

Rapini Tea is the best. And it is hard to go wrong with the greens; typically the Italian ladies will sautee it in olive oil with garlic & hot peppers. Or scramble it in eggs.

And let some go to seed for next year

I harvest it when there are flower buds that look like little broccoli heads. I love broccoli rabe, you can cook it like most greens, but I think it shines when it is sauteed with garlic and mushrooms in olive oil and tossed with pasta. There are lots of recipes on the internet, too.

Now I'm hungry! I think greens is what I'm craving. No rab here except in a seed packet lol. Got a bed of bug bitten kale, wonder if I can salvage that with some pasta?

Well was out in the garden this evening, he harvested kale whilest I pulled weeds! My broccoli rabe is looking gorgeous and has beautiful little flower heads with tiny yellow blossoms. So I have plans for a wonderful weekend of garden fresh tomatoes, basil, broccoli rabe, from the garden, and garlic and other yummies from the farmer's market.

Looks like my beans are done so will pull those this weekend and plant garlic in their place.
