George Bush will not be joining President Obama in his visit to New York's Ground Zero site this Thursday. According to a spokesman, Bush "appreciated" the invite and will "celebrate" the milestone of Osama bin Laden's death, but wasn't going to be at the former World Trade Center site to mark the event with the President.
The White House has also extended an invitation to the other political figure most identified with the Sept. 11 attacks, then New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, according to Politico. But there is no word yet whether he will attend.
One source suggested to Politico that Bush wanted to "give Obama his moment." Whatever the reason, the decline is in keeping with Bush's desire to stay out of the spotlight since he left office. Even on his Decision Points book tour last fall, the ex-president refused to speculate or criticize his successor, telling Bill O'Reilly that he was just the "retired guy" and refusing to weigh in on current political issues.
Still, declining this invite to Ground Zero is puzzling. It's hard to see how a show of bipartisanship at one of the nation's most sacred sites (a place where Bush himself delivered his most memorable speech) could be dismissed as a political maneuver.
On Sunday, George Bush had been having dinner with his wife at a Dallas shopping center when news broke about bin Laden. He was then quickly ushered into a an SUV caravan and later issued a statement in praise of the action, noting "No matter how long it takes, justice will be done."

After the way Obama tried to humiliate Trump at a black tie dinner he was invited to I can see why Bush would refuse the invitation. As Obama stated before he enjoys humiliating white people.

Of corse not Obama has just about killed the pipe line. Now Obama may have to bring our troops home from Afghanistan and bush set it up so the troops would stay there indefinitely until the pipe line was done and secure.

Thoughts of ,"WHAT IF"?

As I watch this facade continue, I have to wonder out loud to the point of, 'WHAT IF' the reason that Bush declined O's invitation is because O may just be a 'moving target' and the fact that Ground Zero will be 'FULL OF PEOPLE' tells me that, 'ANYTHING' could pop off.

I thought about how the Bush family has been in business with the Bin Ladens for many years and contrary to the Bin Laden Family vocalizing their distance from UBL, one must remember that UBL IS still 'Family Blood'.

Ground Zero could be like the grassy Knoll of JFK with questions that linger. I really have a deep eerie feeling about this so called 'Unity' that O will be a part of. I may be wrong and have been many times in my life, but something is not jiving with this set up at Ground Zero.

I wouldn't want to be within 300 miles of Ground Zero when this 'whatever you want to call it' commences. I am using the term 'Unity' very lightly.

IF the 'What If' happens, can we imagine the unrest among this nation as if there isn't enough already?

I agree that Bush is wise not to go there. Embarrassment later on when all of this is proven to be a bunch of bs, just like the birth cert being bs...

I think it was a good decision on Bush's part. He has consistently refused to comment on Obama's administration, despite the fact that Obama constantly blames everything on Bush, as does Pelosi et.al.

I didn't agree with a lot of what Bush did while in office. I do have to admit that he's been a class act since leaving office. His reply to one question about Obama's performance in the White House was 'He deserves my silence'.

I think that says it all.
