Trucks Coming future of vehicles and what to do now?

Alright, my newest vehicle is a 2006 model and I have a 2nd vehicle that is a 1995 model and I am sorta wondering what the future holds.

Right now a brand new vehicle is complicated as all get out. But you can still find a v8 solid axle 4x4 on the big 3 makers lots.

With hybrid, driverless, all electric, twin turbo, constant velocity transmissions, and lots of other words I consider being really expensive repairs I am debating in the next few years what to do.

Now as much as I like to make fun of fiat, fix it again tony, the dodge, yeah it is ram but I call em dodge still, trucks can be bought with that lifetime bumper to bumper super warranty. That warranty is on top of the normal one and costs 2 or 3 grand. There are different levels and different co-pay, deductible, for taking your toy in to be worked on.

The biggest warranty covers everything but wear stuff. So all those stupid computers and things are covered.

I am in my mid 40s and gonna leave the sucker stock. Stock size tires, no lift, no monster bumper replacement. It will get a hitch, probably ordered that way. I would like a winch but will cross that when I get to it.

Anyway, what do you see in the future of vehicles for the next 2 decades?

One of my vehicles is a wrangler and worth a little bit. Other one is 200k miles and worth something I am sure but not much.

Vehicle would be bought outright, or financed if worth it somehow.

To some extent I could almost see myself buying a minivan and the super warranty but a mini van won't tow much.

I will also say that while super warranty would cover all the things I mentioned as being really expensive parts at the start of this I want to keep things simple as I can.

Vehicle would be about the base model, due to haggling and potential trade in I might work with what they have on the lot cause they will deal on those more than one I order in.

Lifetime warranty has me skipping ford and general motors. General motors also gets skipped cause their v8 has not been updated in a long time. Ford would compete if they offered a lifetime warranty.

This is a gas v8 truck. No diesel.

3/4 ton or 1 ton. 4x4.

I have a few years to figure this out. I am tired of working on my stuff and I am past wanting to modify everything.

I expect the infrastructure stuff trump is talking about will be a big push for electric charging stations and electric vehicles will be way more common. I live rural. Want to tow a camper. And if I want to go I want 4x4 to let me go.

Sanity is not statistical
If we avoid WW3, asteroids, world economic collapse, plagues, ice age, etc, twenty years will see a continuation of what we see now with the addition of natural gas, solar, electric power and driverless vehicles.

Since I don't see avoiding at least one such calamity, it will come down to the nature of what actually happens. There are a lot of technologies that have been buried over the years, I suspect if there is a substantial amount of tech/people left, we will see some of that tech dusted off. Then again it could be back to horse and buggy as the high tech mode of transportation.

there's much more probability of the gooberments getting the oil flowing and diesel being produced than herds and herds of horses suddenly appearing - the US horse population has to be at it's lowest point in modern history ....

Dodge warranties are a joke. Late for a scheduled maintenance...voids your warranty. Lost a receipt for an oil change? Too bad...void! Wrong weight of oil? Void!

Notice a pattern developing?

So. Here we sit. Two plus years latter
Used vehicle prices are insane
New vehicles sidelined because of computer chips from China. Being withheld
Most of us keeping our older trucks and cars going cause the prices on a new what ever are astronomical to behold.

The lifetime warranty will not cover a repair worth more than the vehicles value.

Make sure you read all the fine print and consider everything.

General motors has a new gas v8 in their 3/4 and 1 ton trucks as well. 6.6liter maybe.

Some say you do not have the active fuel management and cylinder deactivation in general motors 3/4 and 1 ton stuff but make sure you research it for yourself.

My GMC 2013 crew cab 1/2 ton pickup has the AFM, it has 113,000 miles without a hic-up. I get about 17 mpg highway, it has the 5.3 l V8. Of course on my first oil change, I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic, and have been using it on every oil change since, with a K&N or AC Delco oil filter. Added a Fumoto oil change valve to empty the oil pan starting on the third or fourth change. If you do your own oil change, a Fumoto valve is the thing to have. The valve takes the place of your drain plug, and all you have to do is attach a short length of hose to the valve and run it to your drain pan, and open the valve. No muss, no fuss, and no mess.

I feel your pain but accelerated a tad by circumstance.
We had my wife's 06 GMC which in my vie, she had an unreasonable attachment to but hey, I like a nice pickup too. That got written off about 3 weeks ago. about 4 months earlier, my 13 TDI lost an argument w/ an old Chev 3500 pulling a trailer. Not a mark on the 3500; I stopped the estimator when we got to 13,500.00 on the TDI.

Here's the stupid part; it still drives as it should.

We dragged our feet replacing that due to some Family issues (crap gets in the way of RL; IIWII)

So if anything I'm bookmarking / following this as I'm sure there's lots of us in the same quandary.

I'm looking for any sort of reliable sedan plus a truck. big $$$ for us but fortunately we're frugal - OK , she's frugal. I'm flat out cheap.
She laughed her butt off when a friend explained the CDN nickel had a beaver on the obverse & I was notorious as a Beaver squeezer (as in until it shat). That, some savings plus insurance should get us through this with minimal impact to our program but we're going to have to work longer; ba year or maybe two..

Very, very fortunately we escaped without a bruise from either event; I think that uses up any luck we may have had so, no more lotto tickets.
All y'all take care and stay safe.

Relatively, we are blessed.

I would never purchase an extended warrantee for anything, ever. Companies that sell them have actuaries that are paid to calculate their risks, and attorneys to tweak the fine print in the contracts. Profit is the bottom line, and they will always profit handsomely on the sale of extended warranties; often making more money on them than on the sale of the products being warranted.
