The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 19% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -22.

When tracking President Obama’s job approval on a daily basis, people sometimes get so caught up in the day-to-day fluctuations that they miss the bigger picture. To look at the longer-term trends, Rasmussen Reports compiles the numbers on a full-month basis. For the full month of August, the president’s ratings fell to the lowest levels of his time in office. Data released earlier this week showed that, during August, confidence in the labor market fell to the lowest level in a year.

Additionally, the number of Americans unaffiliated with either major party jumped to a new high last month. As the debt ceiling debacle unfolded, the number who identify as Democrats fell to an all-time low.

Most Americans say that saying a candidate is like Ronald Reagan is a good thing. Most in the Political Class, however, consider it a negative. Other labels, including environmentalist, socialist, libertarian, or career politicians don’t fare as well. Earlier data showed that being called a conservative is positive but the Tea Party label has become a net negative. Scott Rasmussen’s book on the Tea Party, Mad as Hell, will be released in paperback next Tuesday. You can pre-order now.

Scott will be hosting the Rasmussen Report on Radio again this Sunday at 3:06 Eastern and 2:06 Central on WLS 890 AM radio in Chicago and WMAL 630 AM radio in Washington DC. The show is available everywhere online. New results from polling on the Iowa caucus will be released during the broadcast.

Data for this update is collected via nightly interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, the vast majority of interviews were completed before the president’s speech last night.

Voters are evenly divided as to whether the president’s political views are extreme or within the political mainstream. The same is true of Republican hopeful Rick Perry. However, Mitt Romney is seen by most as holding mainstream views while Michelle Bachmann and Ron Paul are seen to be holding extreme views.

Just 18% believe today’s children will be better off than their parents. Sixty-seven percent (67%) disagree and say they will not be better off.
