I'm not sure this will help.

Did some web searching. If you go here:

http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/huskee.html

you will find this:

Patty of Old Town FL (3/30/04):
We bought a Lawn Tractor (Huskie SUPREME) 23hp on March 13, 2004. Used it March 27th for about an hour, parked the mower behind our shed under the awning and went in the house. Came back outside 15 or 20 minutes later and smoke was coming from behind the shed, I ran back there to see what it was and fire was blazing from the motor of the mower. It burnt down our shed and all was lost before the fire department got there. We lost a motorcycle, a huge air-compressor, Christmas stuff, Snap-On on tools and Craftsman tools, lots of them, and weed eaters, brand new leaf blower, drills, sanders, a whole lot of stuff.

I went to Tractor Supply today to see what was going to be done and they said they will contact MTD. But I have a feeling nothing will be done. This happened to another man in our area and they wouldn't help him. It's a sad thing to spend $1,600.00 for something and it get burned up along with all our other stuff and nobody seems to care. Our shed and the contents were not covered by insurance.

The man I spoke with asked me would you like me to contact MTD. I said whoever is going to replace this mower or give me back my money. The mower was only 13 days old when this happen. this should have never happened. All I want is a new one (better one) or my money back, I could push to have them cover all our losses if they don't want to try to help me.

Patty is not going to get anywhere by asking. She should sue MTD in Small Claims Court if she is confident she can prove the fire resulted from a defect in the tractor.

Shelley of Red Oak TX (3/30/04):
Purchased a Huskee 42-inch riding mower. Started using it late summer of 2001. Had it serviced several times and blades changed, oil changed. Also had it repaired for miscellaneous reasons. Currently had it serviced 3/30/04 and used it 2 times. The second time motor seemed to get a louder vibration. We shut motor down and called repair man. After he inspected it he decided it was a blown head gasket.

We paid $1500 and now we have nothing. We think the company should be liable. We have a cancelled check for the mower.

Kurt of Halstead KS (5/6/03):
My father bought a Huskee lawn tractor w/mower deck about three or four years ago. Well for some reason, or no reason at all, the piston rods blew out and the valves were completely destroyed. The carburetor hasn't worked properly since he bought it. My dad doesn't like to complain, he's the type that will have something fixed out of his pocket, even if it's under warranty. He takes excellent care of it, all of the necessary preventative maintenance that is needed.

It cost around $75 - 150.00 to fix it.

Kevin of Battle Creek MI (5/2/03)
From the first time I used the HUSKEE 50-inch deck garden tractor I have experienced problems. In the past 2 1/2 years of ownership I have replaced 6 drive pulley's that help drive the cutting blades. They are extremely fragile and they cost $70.00 apiece to replace because the company will not sell the individuals piece parts to repair the unit. These items are not made from steel they are made of aluminum and are very cheap.

The one part on the tractor that requires some durability they made out of a cheap metal alloy. The company has not helped me one bit to resolve this issue in fact they are blaming me for the breakage indicating that I am abusing this product. I cut about three acres of grass once a week and they indicate that my lawn is such that I shouldn't be cutting this much grass with this type of unit. When I originally purchased this tractor I specifically asked if this unit would do what I needed it to do and they were more than willing to sell me this unit. I had indicated to the salesman how much grass I do cut and he indicated that this was the perfect solution to my needs.

They indicated to me that my abuse of the product has caused this product to fail and my reply is so because I am sitting on a tractor whose name indicates strength and durability and I cut my grass and the product breaks it is my fault. I took a bag of my broken parts back to the store to show them that this item has a problem and they indicated they could not or would not help me to resolve this issue. I would like to be able to roll this tractor out of my garage one time and not have an equipment problem to deal with. I take good care of my equipment but when I pulled the tractor out this year before I did anything to it I noticed another pulley had a problem another defect the pulley had broken.

Most of the problems with these units is the body which is made from aluminum and the shafts that hold the blade. I have replaced 5 pulleys and this one makes six and three of them broke off through the bolt threads hole. the body of this pulley does not move why are they breaking at this part of the piece.

The pulley's on the 50 inch deck are susceptible to damage and they cost $70.00 a piece to replace and in the first year of ownership I had replaced three pulley's. In the second year I replaced 2 pulley at 70.00 and three shafts at 15.00 a piece. I found a supplier who would piece part the pulley's. When one if these pulley's fail it also causes the drive belts to fail also. I am tired of replacing defective parts.

I doubt you wanted consumer complaints. ;) The simple truth is, almost ALL tractor style riding mowers are now built by MTD. I'm still looking for a manual online. Without seeing the mower deck, I can't tell you how to swap that belt. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out, though. There must be someone in your neighborhood who works on such things and will teach you how to do it.

Here's a reply to a guy asking about belt replacement on a Craftsman (also MTD):

If you have the old broken belt you can take
it to NAPA and size it up with a new one it will
be probably 1/2 x 92" . You can buy the green
heavy duty or the black standard belt (cheaper).
Take the deck off. a few pins should do it.
There will be a label under the left running board
that shows the routing.
Push the brake pedal all the way down and lock it
up. then just route the belt around the pulleys
as shown on the label. You will have to squeeze
the belt through the round safety bars on the
pulleys and transmission. Release the pedal and
it should drive fine.
Reinstall the deck and your off.

I don't know if that sounds at all familiar. Will let you know if I learn more, but I can tell you now, that Huskee model number gets no hits at all.
