It's to make everyone compliant. As in get with the program.

Was at AIT at Ft. Polk and it was cold in late Nov. so we ALL had our field jackets on. Except one guy, probably raised in Alaska.

So the Drill SGT sent all of us back in, to take ours off. Cuz the Morning formation every one had to be dressed the same - uniform. I was thinking it would have been easier and I would have been warmer to send the one guy back ine.

Once the formation was over and we all had uniform blue lips, there were some guys talking to the ONE, with bad eyes and everything.

After that we all were uniform and in compliant. And we never had to go take our jackets off again.

So you see it's not about the single individual, it's all about controlling the majority.

ETA: if the majority would take the individual off to the side and teach them some manners, responsibility and respect, it might turn out different, but we are a cultured society, and don't give wife beaters a beat down anymore, or other things to get the individual in line with the majority.
