Also, Japan's Nikkei futures is showing down 890 points but no active trading so it may be closed.

Stole this from the vanguard site. With a DJIA of 28000 we need almost a 2000 point drop for the circuit breakers to kick in.

Market volatility regulations
Circuit breakers
Circuit-breaker points represent the thresholds at which trading is halted market-wide for single-day declines in the S&P 500 Index. Circuit breakers halt trading on the nation's stock markets during dramatic drops and are set at 7%, 13%, and 20% of the closing price for the previous day. The circuit breakers are calculated daily.

Level 1 halt (7%)
  • Trading will halt for 15 minutes if drop occurs before 3:25 p.m.
  • At or after 3:25 p.m.—trading shall continue, unless there is a Level 3 halt.
Level 2 halt (13%)
  • Trading will halt for 15 minutes if drop occurs before 3:25 p.m.
  • At or after 3:25 p.m.—trading shall continue, unless there is a Level 3 halt.
Level 3 halt (20%)
  • At any time during the trading day—trading shall halt for the remainder of the trading day.
Single stock price bands
The SEC implemented a new marketplace rule, known as the Limit Up-Limit Down Rule, designed to prevent trades from executing outside of price bands established throughout the day for individual stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

FYI: As I'm watching Fox Business to get the coming crash live (that's sort of a joke but it is down 900 in the futures) and Maria was reporting that Amazon was communicating with it's suppliers for diverse supply chains so as to be ready for "Prime Day" in March.

I take that to mean Amazon is worried about supplies out of China being slow, to non-existent, and are asking "their people" to look for alternative means of keeping the supply going and ready.

BTW Crude is down 4%. Treasuries are selling hot, and Gold is near 1700.00.

Just a note when 8:30 central gets here the market goes back to zero, but with futures pointing this far down, it may not take long to get there for real. -944

ETA: I put it here because it's all due to CoVin19

Fed did another $40 billion in repos today. More than half was mortgage-backed.
I expect the markets will fluctuate a large amount.

Whadya I know but...the way I'm viewing this is....it (the virus) will sweep through China, and the case count will begin to decrease, productivity will go back up, gold will drop like a hot rock and the market will go back up.

If you're into the market, might be a good day for some sales.

To $1000 a gram gold and three digit silver?

Ha, ha... jk or im I?

Of course you're JK. No way Ag is going to $100+. The ratio is still in the 89:1 ballpark. Plus if Ag goes THAT high, Au will be practically untouchable for the common plebe.

Nah - not yet. If 'they' were smart, which they're not, they'd close the borders for about 3 weeks, let the shit die in place, take whatever hit needs to be taken and move along.

I do wonder though. As I shop at ChinaMart and ChinaFreight; can this bug survive long enough in a just perfect condition on the packing materials or products made over there to infect the populous wherever it lands?

Check out info on the noro virus. The Corona virus is its cousin.

They're saying Coronas can live in "perfect conditions" for up to 27 days on hard surfaces. South Korea is quarantining products for 10 days.

Of note...

Silver...the only PM that has not broke its 80s high.

Also I read that China mandated paper money not be circulated in the hot virus area.

Silver coinage is the only currancy that wouldn't be a carrier of tje virus and could have a big value in a little coin at three digit silver...

Just musing....

Funny thing; there's a HUGE new demand vector for silver, too. Apparently, the Chinese are using it in VAPORIZERS now.

Can't find any articles about it; think I heard it in a Chris Martenson video this weekend. Still, that should be bumping up silver even farther.

I wonder if this might be the correction my BF talked about all the time. He was a stock broker, passed away a year ago. Never got upset when the market went down. Said it was going up too fast, too high. It needed a correction. He was more concerned about it going up too much. Miss his insight

It is something talking heads are talking about. Hasn't been a real correction in 11 years. Whatever that means.

I don't think so. This is just the investment folks who've been believing the Hopium realizing a Communist country might lie. Couple that with the fact of Italy and South Korea. These investors have memories about as long as goldfish, so things will be back to ponies and rainbows in a few days....facts be damned.

He explained it to me, it was a bit over my head. They didn't like it going up so much. It was like too much steam. It would drop I guess, they would then go to true numbers. That's how I understood it. He had an amazing mind.

I don't know, he was senior vice president of a large firm, did it over 30 years. He knew his poop. We will all see I'm sure.

I was in the options/futures business for 30+ years. You don't quadruple off the lows (08) without a pullback. This mkt is driven by paper mache garbage. The fact companies have been borrowing money for share buybacks just makes these moves all the more violent. The algo driven computers shut off in these conditions and therefore limit liquidity (think bids and offers). I saw it in the flash crash. That was something. Was there in 87 too. The boards were 1 1/2 hours late. The NYSE did 630 million shares that day. Child's play compared to now.
