Big changes have come up for me and my mom.

We have decided that we want to see mountains again.:spns:

We're selling the farm (and all my survival supplies) and going to travel across the South/North West looking for a new home.

From Arizona to Idaho we'll be traveling. Going to do the snowbird thingy.

It may take a year or two, we're in no hurry. Going to find a nice place where we can build a small cabin and have our retreat.

Has anyone had an experience with living in a trailer full time? There is just me, my 70 year old mom and two dogs.

How big of a trailer would your recommend? What should I look out for in a used trailer?

Going to get a new (used) truck, my Chevy Silverado sucks fluids like a drunk.:o

So what kind of truck should I be on the look out for? F-150 or 250? Dodge Ram? Chevy Suburban? I prefer gas than diesel.

Any suggestions on how to handle not having a fixed address?

Or anything else I need to know?

Of course now, I have to figure out what to do with all my ammo.

I've 'full-timed' it before and at this very moment I'm in a Miss. rest area with my wife and three sons in a 30' dutchmen bunkhouse travel trailer and it's tight with so many... but everybody has their own bed... I'd say if your going to full time it get at least a 28-30' travel trailer or fifthwheel and a 3/4 or 1 ton pickup with a diesel engine... I used a diesel suburban for years, but it's really good to have a truck cap to carry more stuff with the TT (travel trailer)... I bought a Boiley 3000w inverter generator and built a box on a rack I put on the back of the TT it uses less than 1.5 gals per night, one thing for certain is mount the rack to the trailer frame... the bumper is for the sewer hose only...
When traveling I stay in rest areas, WW, Home Depot, truck stops (noisy), and a favorite Cracker Barrel... Dumping tanks may cost $10 at truck stops but a lot of states put dump stations in rest areas AL, TX, Miss., and probably a lot more... If you're handy buy replacement parts at HD, Lowes and such, much cheaper than Camping World...
RV'ers are pretty friendly and will help you out... oh yea Passport America is $40 a year and you can stay in a lot of campgrounds for 1/2 price....

if you have any intentions at all of pulling a trailer, you will want a diesel...end of story. older 5.9(early 2007 late 2006 model) dodges are great, so are the non 6.0 powerstrokes.

This too shall pass.
My brother and sil are living in a 36' motor home towing their car. The RV is diesel and gets about 8 mpg. The one good thing is that they have a 'basement', so have extra storage. I don't know if travel trailers come with basements; maybe the more expensive ones? Daughter and I lived in a 28' fifth wheel for almost a year (parked at my mother's place, not traveling), and when we moved out, it was surprising just how much stuff we'd gotten into that small trailer (about 25' long interior), even without a basement! Key is to minimize belongings as much as possible. Try not to take much more than you'd need for a trip. Store stuff somewhere if necessary. Clutter makes life really difficult in such a small space.

Ditto on the clutter. I live in a 32' travel trailer built for fema. They built little in these tin cans for storage, although I thank the good Lord everyday for it. No mortgage or rent. I also have an older 25' that has far more storage. Can't do much with the 25' because I loaned it out for a couple of years and it was treated badly, but I do store well packaged things in it. I constantly battle clutter and being a pack rat makes it worse. Put your excess belongings in storage, with the way things are going I wouldn't get rid of anything.

I have been full time for 5 yrs. workampering . I love my Alpenlite 31' because of the large basement in it. Have generator in there and all my preps plus. Saw some listed for $10,000 online, got mine used 1997 as they are built tough up north. New ones since 2000 are not the same. I will not travel with out gun and dog. Stay safe.

Yes, read Dennis's blog ,good info there.
