Ridge added absolutely no information to what Ashcroft delcare a few weeks ago. Again, "no specific information", just a vague general threat. But a threat not even strong enough to justify raising the "threat level" to orange.

Interesting that he held this worthless press conference directly in the wake of the Edwards-running-mate announcement.

I'm convinced that this was just a shameless political ploy to take some press coverage away from Kerry-Edwards. It's disgusting that Bush would use something like terror (and fake terror) for political ends.

Turn off the CNN, you're buying into their crap.

I vote for damned if he does, damned if he doesn't give an advanced warning as possible, it will always be Bush's fault regardless....

You need PROOF for your conspiracy theories not just a "feeling." Get a grip.

I'm going to disagree. Knowing that the warning that bin Laden gave Europe a few months ago is getting ready to expire within the next week, I think there is a very good possibility that the world could see attacks coming in one form or another. I suspect the next one may be aimed somewhere in Europe and not necessarily here in the United States but I think the terrorists would exploit any opening they thnk may be weak here in the States as well.

Sometimes it amazes me that people I know believe there is no way another 9/11 could happen again. I'm sure Homeland Security and the alphabets carefully sift through the tons of stuff that crosses their desks each day but I wonder how much stuff goes undetected or how many dots just aren't connected?

Sometimes these warnings just remind us to be a little bit more observant.

You know the truth, rescath. It's a precedent that history has proven time and time again, since the days of Nero burning Rome and blaming it on the christians...

...no need for a poll.

For those who think it was necessary at this time, why don't you explain why it was necessary and what purpose Ridge served in making the announcement?

PS -- I'm not voting for Kerry-Edwards. I think they're just as much globalist-controlled garbage as Bush-Cheney, probably even more so. I'm either voting for some 3rd Party candidate or not voting at all this year.

a POLL to vent YOUR anger?
I just want to see what people think. Of course I'm angry. Biggest problem in this country is the sheeple who don't get angry at being manipulated and lied to and misled. There was a local talkshow host in Cleveland (a strong Bush-advocate) who agreed that the announcement was probably just politics (couldn't see any reason for it), but dismissed it with the casual observation -- (parapharse)"We're always being manipulated by our politicians. Every single president has misled the people to some extent." Just accepting this as fact and resigning to it.

Ridge Announcement

For me, it's only a gut feeling, but Ridge seemed pretty serious this time. The fact that he used the word "massive" attack concerned me. Also, his changing his mind about visiting Israel next week seems to be a "heads up."

What I have a real problem with is that we're not being told anything to do to protect ourselves. We, on this board, know, but most of our friends and family don't. And, I have to admit, with the barrage of "attack" messages for the last three years, I'm becoming more like a DGI myself. Scary thought.

Just my thoughts,

rescath, I can't take your bogus poll, but I do have a comment.

They HAVE to keep reminding folks that there are dangers lurking out there. And they have to do it within the climate of not being entirely sure what will happen. If they DID know for sure they could probably stop it.

There is no way that any of us would accept, after 911, not being forewarned should something actually come to pass. There have been sufficient dots on this forum as of late to convince me there may well be a higher perceived risk within .gov that something could happen in the near future.

Yet another post which dares question Bush being shoved into Unexplained. I for one am getting sick of it.

I think it was done to cover their butts. If they didn't tell us and something happened, we'd be screaming. How can they tell us what to do if they don't know exactly where it will happen or what will happen? They've already given the warning about having extra food etc. and people haven't listened. What more can they do other than scaring the tar out of people? Most people aren't willing to believe anything will happen. I talked to some of my co-workers way back when they first came up with the alert level and told how to be prepared. One woman said that Ridge is just a "Political Puppet", and they were giving these warnings so people would go out and spend money and boost the economy!! How do you get through to people like this? She used y2k as an example of the government's way to drain your pockets, and this was just another one of their "stunts". A lot of these people don't watch the news. Some said they don't want to know if something is going to happen!! They don't want to give up their beer money to prepare for their family and don't want their beer drinking, Nascar watching way of life disturbed, so they stay in denial that it could happen. I get so frustrated with these people that I could just scream.
My daughter is in the Air Force and worked in the intelligence room on her base after 9/11. I made a remark to her one time about getting tired of hearing all the threats when nothing ever happens. She said I have no way of knowing what all has been prevented! She saw what was happening, but wasn't allowed to say anything. She said the government can't tell us everything, because their sources could be compromised, possibly killed. Or leads that they are currently investigating could be messed up. There is a lot going on behind the scenes that we will never know about.
I for one would rather keep hearing these warnings, even if nothing happens, than to be taken by surprise. It keeps me on my toes, keeps me preparing for "something". We have used our supplies more than once for family emergencies, so nothing ever goes to waste. Stocking up has actually turned into a hobby for me, so it's not a strain.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the next few months. Hopefully we will all still be here complaining about the govenment crying wolf!!!

I agree with you on this. However, I also believe that the gubmt's (gubmt is a five-letter word in my dictionary) primary purpose is to cover their rear. This is the nature of the bureaucrat mentality!

I think that the announcement was timed to divert some attention from the indictment of Ken Lay.

they didn't raise the level to orange and he offered nothing new. OBVIOUSLY, it was a political stunt.

now the question comes up of whether or not this is a bad thing? politicians do political things. all W has going for himself is being CIC during a "war" much of which is his own creation. for his political life, he HAS to do stuff like this. i think of it as a dirty tricks campaign on the USAn people. others may feel his technique is useful and appropriate to maintain power. MOST people just lap it up without question. THAT is the the most worrisome aspect of this - unquestioning loyalty to a politician.

clearly, this nation is unfit to govern itself. question authority - always.

You know, I could swear remembering these exact same words and ideas on the Pacifica Radio Show "Democracy Now!" or "Peacewatch".

It is like a briefing paper went out this morning or something.

What would have been a good time? Closer to the Democratic Convention? During the Convention? If they didn't say something and the SHTF and you are going to give me a pass?

At this point the current administration should make announcements and do anything legal anytime they want. It is clear that the Bush haters are going to rag no matter what he does or says or when they announce it.

1. Tell them once...they will forget

2. Tell them twice...they will remember it was "something"

3. Tell them three times...they will remember what you said

Until the third time, I'm not too concerned.

I feel like Al Q is playing with this administration. Bin Laden, is trying to discredit HS. Bush and Ridge are between a rock and a hard place. They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Think about it. They get intelligence saying there may be a massive hit. While they may doubt the creditability of the info, they feel they must inform the public in order to err on the side of caution. In the mean time every time Bin Laden gets his minions to start chattering, he knows he is destroying Homeland Security by making them look unreliable when nothing does happen. They are playing cat and mouse.
They are laughing at all of us. IMO

It wasn't posted as an opinion. It was posted as a poll eith basivally one choice in two answers.

As I said-you want to post a poll on it? Feel free-you want to post an opinion on it? Geel free.

You want to play games with getting answers that YOU only agree with? Feel free but it gets moved.

For Y'all that don't agree? Can't help you. :shr:

Someone posts a poll saying

"Bush GREAT?" and

" Isn't Bush GREAT?" and it'll be moved.

Pepper, no information was imparted to the public. nothing. nada. zip.

how does one prepare for X when X is an unknown? whether intentional or not, sending out "info" such as this has only one effect - to incite fear. when you have nothing to back it up, this seems an unwise course.
