CrossStitch Help, please.

It's been a long time since I've done cross stitch. And either things have changed or I'm remembering embroidery more than cross stitch. But the design is not printed on. And the paper that the design is on is not transfer paper.
So good transfer paper? Because I will keep the paper on hand but I need at least a general outline.
I just want to get back in practice on both cross stitch and embroidery. I haven't done them in waaaaayyyy too long. And both are nice ways to dress up things that I make. And I might take over the legacy from one of my grandmothers and start doing small cross stitch for Xmas gifts. Maybe. In between the gazillion other things.

Neither here nor there.

I've never done a cross stitch where the pattern was printed on the fabric. I just counted how many x's and started from there. And talk about a flash back I don't think I've done cross stitch since the early 90's, most of the patterns I did I made myself, sampler style, after looking at photos in books.

Added to my watch list. For when I'm back in the living room and comfy. Not sore in the cold office.

I have done cross stitch before. But it's been long enough that I have no issues with watching videos. The last one I remember doing was mid-level. But that was a long time ago, which is why I got two beginner level kits for adults.
The other surprise is that no one carries spring tension hoops anymore. So I'm going to have to hit up Amazon for a set.

Oh, I love this lady! Her instruction is simple & clear, & her soft voice is very soothing. I want her shirt; it's my color blue. :) I haven't done cross-stitch in years and have other priorities now, but I'm going to go watch the rest of her videos anyway. There are only a few but a search shows a few more on other channels.

I always liked using scrim, or waste canvas. You can get it in different thread counts. Tack it over your fabric, stich the design, being careful no t to pierce the threads, and pull it out a thread at a time when your design is done.

Sounds like you have what they call "counted cross stitch".

You have to find the center of your pattern and substrate, then count the stitches.

That's what the wife says. That ought to give you some search words to get more detailed instructions.

Especially, "counted cross stitch"
