Boats Houseboat liveing

Does anyone live on a houseboat? I have always thought that would be the greatest thing for me.

We don't YET but DH and I have seriously thought about it for years. It's a feasible alternative for us once we get our home sold. Can't say if we really will do it but if we do, I will post back here.

Just noticed this old thread.
I did in my early twenties for a couple of years.
There were good things, and bad things about it.
No plans to do so ever again.

Please expound on your experience Fareo. DH and I have talked about dog this when we retire. Liquidate everything as we have no children and by then, all parents should be gone so we'll have no ties to this area. Live on a houseboat on a BIG lake in Tennessee in warm months, dry dock it and travel the other six. Maybe rent a mobile home seasonally in a retirement community so we can pack up whenever we get the urge.

I lived on it all year, in MA. It was hot in summer, and freezing in winter. The slip fees and electricity were high, so there was not much savings over an apartment or mortgage. It was my only space, and of course, space is limited on a boat. I don't regret the experience, but with a little more money, I would have been much more comfortable. The boat was my home, I had no interest in travelling around in it. I liked the isolation of the marina in the winter - very peacefull, but for my situation at that time, there were a lot of drawbacks.
