Help Hubby has multiple fractures

Spent Friday through Sunday in the trauma center. Both first ribs and sternum are fractured. T5 and T8 are fractured. He has 2 skull fractures near the sinuses. We were sent home with oxycodone and methocarbamal as well as acetaminophen and a brace from the depths of hell.

The oxy and methocarb make him dizzy and nauseous.

I have a pretty extensive supply of herbs, essential oils, and homeopathic remedies.

I am quite sure that Summerthyme Ouch would be great. But guess what? I gifted one bottle to my parents and one to a neighbor. That leaves with none. What was I thinking? I will get some more ordered.

In the meantime, does anyone have experience or suggestions to try? He is 61, if that matters, with no other health issues.

Thanks in advance for any help you can share.

Thank you all for such quick replys.
Workplace accident. They were replacing hydraulic cylinders on an excavator and one decided to make a run for it and landed on his head. Good thing too, because other than myself, people don't come any more hardheaded

This afternoon we switched off of the hard rx's and tried ibuprofen and Tylenol in rotation . Pain doesn't seem any worse and the dizziness is improving.

I am 70 (yes, I robbed the cradle. What can I say?) I will be out of work (yeah, that too) and the stress of it all is quite alarming. I have MS and it doesn't play well with stress.

Greysage, does chocolate milk and ice cream count?

Loads of food before oxy. Methocarbomol will simply make you dizzy if not used to it. But with food, it seems to act like it’s not there as far as your body knows. Otherwise, you’ll be dizzy for awhile if you don’t eat.

If it were me, I’d take the oxy and drop the methocarbomol for awhile. It helps with muscle spasms but not pain really. But to someone who has not taken any of these two, their body is going to go “what?!?” If he still can’t do the oxy, drop that and try the methocarbomol.

Prayers added. I sure hope all the workman’s comp paperwork is done. Gah!

I'm glad you explained what happened, otherwise we'd be taking the cast iron frying pans away from you.

Hope he heals well and quickly. Sounds like the bare minimum is needed to keep the pain in check. Good for him.

No one is immune from trauma and it sounds like he is handling it as well as can be expected.

Hubby is under the care of a pain dr for chronic back pain. He takes a oxy and a muscle relaxer. He eats when he takes them. But the thing that helped the most was to take only half at a time. So if he can take a pill every 6 hours, he breakers it in half and takes 1/2 a pill every 3 hours. It still controls his pain but doesn’t affect his stomach as much or make him dizzy. It helped our daughter to take hers that way when she had her wisdom teeth out too.

Thanks everyone for the prayers, suggestions and well wishes. We are noticing improvement every day. Today was especially good, everything considered.

Greysage, that protein suggestion really worked. First day was scrambled eggs with cheese and I got some ensure extra protein. Nausea and dizziness is almost gone. Thank you for taking the time to help a girl out.

May you all be blessed.

I would suggest the Core Power protein drinks by Fairlife. Better ingredients than Ensure and MUCH better taste. Ive tried just about everything on the market in the last year and they taste the best. If you have a bunch of Ensure and he has a hard time with it, you can use it with coffee if he does sugar and cream In his coffee.

Thanks for the suggestions, Moldy. I trust your judgement. I will give the Fair life a try. I only bought 6 chocolate and 12 vanilla. I tasted them and they were gross!

I can always gift them to my parents (87 and 94). They like everything!

SwampMom - just seeing this thread. sounds like DH got more than a little banged up. glad that he seems to be improving at this point based on yours (#31). prayers for you and he both. based on your description of the accident he was fortunate not to have been injured more severely
