Here's another acrylic I finished about a month ago-it was extremely difficult to photograph, the sheen of the paint reflected gray instead of black so I had to digitally enhance portions of it. It's 8x10, a composite I did from several photos and magazine ads. I'll be framing it and putting it in the gallery sometime this week.

That is incredible..do you plan on selling any prints?

Yes I do, I need to get better photos of it for print though, it has some glare that is problematic.

I'm glad you like it-it's hanging in a local gallery right now; the gallery owner said a man came in and stared at it for about 4 minutes-I'm not sure if he was admiring it or looking at all the mistakes!

Thank you guys, I'm glad you like it. I've been painting rocks-canvases aren't selling...hopefully the locals will like rock art better than fine art. I need munny.

SOOO Serene and Beautiful Flipper!
This makes me want to go back to my creative side of my life and start over. Such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing.

Very nice.

Suggestions for you pics.

If it is under glass, get the glass out of the way.

I am guessing the acrylics are reflecting the light so wait till a birght overcast day or take te image out and shoot in shadow during the day=not dark shadow but something like the shade under the eves of the house on the East side in the afternoon.

You might have to play with the angle of the canvas a bit but generally direct light gives reflections and you won't use a flash which also reflects light points on acrylic edges and light spots.

Get back to that creative thang MCA!! It's great therapy and I'd love to see what you do.

Sat, thanks for the tips, I don't glass acrylics, the paint will stick. They are so shiny I couldn't get a decent shot no matter where I took it nor what angle I propped it at, I ended up putting it in the hallway with no lights on and adjusting the glare the best I could in Photoshop. I tried for hours, because I need some good photos for prints-I finally gave up, framed it and put it in the gallery. I'll try using your tips when I take the next shots of my other paintings-I have one that is very dark and a bugger to capture.

I'm late to the party, but try 2 equally-powered lights at 45* angles to the picture and disable the on-camera flash.

Also look into a circular polarizing filter. (The linear ones mess up modern cameras.) Polarizing filters can be used to cut back glare. And sometimes they'll punch up the colors on a photo.

Thank you for the lighting advice RiJoRi, I'll try that. I've learned to refrain from using the sealing medium until I've got photos as it creates a highly reflective surface and is virtually impossible to capture.

I'm sorry you can't see the picture rugmaker, I'm not sure why you can't see it.

Thank you LilRose, it didn't sell so I have it hanging in my living room. :D

Rugmaker, I'm sorry you can't see it, wish I knew how to make it visible for you.

There is a place I go to locally to scan my daughter's paintings. They do it at 600 dpi and guarantee color matching to the original. Would that work? It's not too terribly expensive - $7/square foot.
