Just voted and how it was

It's 10:30 here now and I just got home from voting. My unofficial and primitive exit poll has Bush winning by a landslide.

When I got there, there was a fellow standing in the parkinglot area to let folks know that, yes, this was the place for voting.

At the door, there was a large crowd of folks standing around talking. They'd hush up, though, when a person approached to enter the building. I decided later that this was to insure folks didn't seem to be intimidating the others decissions on who to vote for. Because when I walked out, they continued their conversations; and that was how they'd all voted for Bush. I stood around and shot the breeze with them for about an hour or so. I was hoping to be there if and when the terrorist should make an attemp to disrupt our voting. :D I decided we were just too small a fish for the terr's to fry; so I left and came on home.

And that was how it was here.

So, how did things go at your place today?

Went to the poll at 6:23 am; polls open here at 6:30. At that moment, I am happy to say, I was the 70th person in line, and the line was that far behind me when the doors opened. When I walked out, line was approx. the same size. I think it's a disgrace that generally only 50% of people vote; because people fought and died to protect my right to vote I will always do so. Happy to see people turning out today!

You're so right, Trivium. So many millions of folks died so I could have the right and privilege of voting. I *will**not* dishonor them by not doing so. I also believe in, "If you don't vote; you have no right to complain about the kind of government you get".

It was pretty uneventful in mid-Michigan. I went around lunch time, and the wait was only about 30 minutes, but a pretty steady line. None of us talked about who we were voting for, which I appreciate. Just one comment from a guy who hoped that whatever happened, we wouldn't be stuck in weeks of litigation! AMEN to that!

I also noticed that the average age of our pollworkers is around 70. I'm no spring chicken either, but if my work pernits it in the future, I'm going to volunteer to help out!

I LOVE VOTING!

Here in northern Indiana , we vote at a small school. At 9 this morning there was only 3 ahead of us. Outside ,two pickups were parked across the circle driveway blocking the drive , so could not drop my elderly mother off close to door. However wasn't far to walk. Said it's running high turnout for voters which is good no matter who wins , at least more people gave their opinion.

For the first time in the 7 years I have been voting at the same location, we had hacklers. Folks all along the other side of the street across from city hall shouting at us folks lined up to vote. I found it rather un-cooth and obnoxious, and some of my undecided opinions on some local races were swayed in the opposite direction from which they were hoping, I'm sure.

Other than a light drizzle during my 15 minute wait in line, everything else was fine.

The Pulse......
I voted today around 10:00 am....

I could not believe the turn out! I actually had to wait in line to vote!

Mine is a very conservative neighborhood in a city south of Seattle...and all was calm during my visit to the little church that doubles as a voting place during elections...

My DH voted absentee this year and I wanted to know how they worked that...If his name was still on the list that must be signed before they hand you your ballot...The woman at the polling place said that his name was indeed still on the list but it will be marked with *absentee* so he will not be able to vote at the polls..
We discussed the potential for fraud and she assured me that the state has put in place special measures this time to detect any funny business......(I'm really hoping so! )

While I was waiting to vote I noticed a young man who asked for a provisional ballot - he seemed to know what he was doing..and had a bunch of papers with him for identification... The lady I was talking with said all of the provisional ballots will be set aside and validated by hand to ensure no one is voting who should not be......

I drove past the church again in the afternoon and saw that it was still very busy! This is unheard of and a very good sign for Bush!

Our town has only 2,000 population.

I got to the polls at 0700, opening time. 55 minutes later I was "trying" to vote.

Little problem...those that live in the city limits here are allowed (supposed to be allowed) to vote on package stores/retail liquor and wine sales. But when I tried to vote for it (or even against it) nothing happened...no light came on.

I stuck my head out of the booth curtain and asked the lady attendant about it, and showed her it was not working for me. She agreed that I do live in the city and should have been able to vote for it, but that no one had put the "secret" mark on my form, so she therefore did not turn that option on for me.

I didn't want to spend any more time there and told her it was no big deal. When I got home later I called my wife to make sure she had been able to vote for that option; she could BUT she had a hard time getting the machine light to come on for one of the candidates...

So I promptly called our county election officials to tell them about the problems at my little voting place; and I told her that if the liquor vote somehow misses by ONE VOTE that it was mine and for her to make note of my problem.

:)

Another day in the small town.

I voted at about 1:30 pacific time. There were only four others there besides me.

What I did notice was a good-looking and muscular plain-clothed FBI type standing with arms crossed, watching things, and helping the workers there. I just had to ask for help. ;)
