Kilometers to Miles

I'm looking a purchasing a sweet 2001 Toyota Highlander. It's in great shape and for a good price... there is one problem. It's a originally a Canada car. The speedometer had both KM & MI, but the odometer is in KM.

My question is, since everything is all about 'chips' these days. Can you get a chip that will make the odometer read MI rather than KM?

i would think you could change the gear ratio at the transmission speedometer drive to convert it to mph..
you just need the speedo to spin a little slower 100km = 62mph.. it may have some kind of electronic chip that does that and if so i would get a repair manual for your car.. with the hope that it will show you what would need to be changed and how to do it.. as for the part a bone yard would be you cheapest recourse or goto your favorite auto parts store..

Many cars that are less than 10 years old can be changed with just a button push if the readout is electronic. Mechanical readouts need a gear change - usually in the speedometer, itself.

All of the anaolg displays I have seen (since the mid 90s anyhow) have both miles and kms indicated.,,even in Japan.

Read the other scale.

If it is a digital display there should be a menu option to flip between miles and kilometers. If it is gear driven you would probably need to replace the speedometer cluster with one made in the US with a miles readout. An auto-wreckers or garage would be a good source for this.
