Defense Looking for Semi-Auto pellet gun powerful enough to kill rats

The bloody things have invaded my basement. I set traps and poison but sometimes when I go down there I see them but have no way to get at them in the moment. Any one have a suggestion on a pellet gun or something that won't cause too much collateral damage?

Daisy 880. BB or pellet, single shot, Cheap, Accurate. Terrible trigger but that can be overcome.

I haven't had much luck with the glue pads. The thing that seems to work best for me are the Ratinator style traps. The problem is that they are passive and I was thinking I'd like an active ability to get the buggers.

Actually my brain was telling me that a wrist rocket with those steel hunting balls might be a good low cost option.

I don't know about semi-auto, but some sort of carbine with good sights or a scope, just hang out down there until they pop their heads up, then snap. One more dead rat.

Have some fun with it.

Turn it into a safari like Lynn Thompson (Cold Steel fame), get a good blowgun and use darts with sharpened broadhead type hunting tips. Be careful, they don't come out easily, especially the broadhead darts.

A revolver style CO2 pellet pistol in .177 would probably be a good fit. Be sure to get the high quality pellets. It does make a big difference in accuracy and penetration. A .22 cal pellet pistol would likely be too much of a risk of collateral damage.

Thanks that's good advice. Collateral damage is a concern with this.

Crosman makes a 12 shot semi that I like. At basement ranges it will wacka rat. Make sure you have safety glasses because there will be ricochets.

It's a dirt floor and I think at least some of them are burrowing in. In general I agree with your statement though.

I’ve been looking at this pellet gun has good reviews, there 469.99 on Amazon and need to buy air compressor so a little pricey. The way I understand it at 3000psi you get about 10 shots at 900-950 fps.

Whatever you choose, get proficient at hitting a dime size target at your distance. Brain shots kill rats with the least power necessary. Have fun. Set up a hide, put some bait out, low light.....go to town. This is were co2 would be nice, instant follow up, next rat...whatever.
