Day by day
Only one way to stop a highly communicable disease in the absence of a vaccine.

100% simultaneous lockdown nationwide. No other country tried this. All other countries have failed to stop it.

Two or three weeks should do it.

San Francisco police lawfully shot and killed anyone caught on a public street without a mask during the Spanish flu. Legal precedent.

I would pick a Sunday soon.

That makes a huge amount of sense! No one goes anywhere, everything is closed, the virus (where ever it would be) in theory should burn itself out. Brilliant....best idea to date. Maybe we'll get lucky and they will do that.

ETA - nothing else tried has worked. Three weeks seems too short, but the whole idea makes great sense. I don't know that we have much to lose at this point...the alternatives are straight from hell.

Big Pharma can't make a ton on money selling vitamin C...

So why not CENSOR and BAN it?

More Vitamin C Studies Approved in China to Fight Coronavirus: Therapy Censored in U.S.:

The National Center for Biotechnology Information... a .gov address.

Abstract
In the early literature, vitamin C deficiency was associated with pneumonia. After its identification, a number of studies investigated the effects of vitamin C on diverse infections. A total of 148 animal studies indicated that vitamin C may alleviate or prevent infections caused by bacteria, viruses, and protozoa. The most extensively studied human infection is the common cold. Vitamin C administration does not decrease the average incidence of colds in the general population, yet it halved the number of colds in physically active people. Regularly administered vitamin C has shortened the duration of colds, indicating a biological effect. However, the role of vitamin C in common cold treatment is unclear. Two controlled trials found a statistically significant dose–response, for the duration of common cold symptoms, with up to 6–8 g/day of vitamin C. Thus, the negative findings of some therapeutic common cold studies might be explained by the low doses of 3–4 g/day of vitamin C. Three controlled trials found that vitamin C prevented pneumonia. Two controlled trials found a treatment benefit of vitamin C for pneumonia patients. One controlled trial reported treatment benefits for tetanus patients. The effects of vitamin C against infections should be investigated further.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
A couple years back before my partner passed, and I moved to my kids property, we had chosen a sustainable life in the woods...large garden, fruit bushes, apple trees, etc. canned and froze lots. I hunted deer, grouse...fished. Anyway, and this is my point...:)...my sister and brother in law visited from the cities. We had built a large pantry in the basement, and it was well filled with OUR efforts. My brother in law meandered to the basement and found our pantry, even though it had a closed door. He proceeded to come up stairs, tell my sister all about everything in the pantry, and told us they would be coming to our house if things got bad...they and kids and grandkids. I heard the same statement from him the other day over the phone...even though I have much less now then we did then. It frustrates me to think they are of that part of society that thinks what is mine is yours! Anyway, I know lots of society is like that, it just ticked me off to hear the same thing coming from him, after all the "education" and help I have imparted to them over the years. I totally understand your head banging. LOL.

Tell them that's ok, but they have to have the right password: "We brought a trailer full of FOOD!" ;)

But, Shane's version is better!

I told people they can come to me - if they can make it in time.

First fear is eased. They will not be rejected.

Then we discuss obstacles in their way and how they can get ready right where they are just in case they can't get out. So far they are getting prepared at home.

Kindness goes a long way in persuasion.

The Dems must have got their talking points, blaming.... wait for it..... President Trump for not asking for either the right stuff or not enough or too late on the emergency appropriation request.

Probably tested a soundbite equating Trump and Corona Virus with Chernobyl. MS NBC CNN the NY Times they will all probably blathering the same soundbite, cause they are that freakin stupid and will use anything to win the next election.
Yep you demo’s are blaming US President for the virus that erupted in China. If he shutdowns travel he is over reacting and hurting allies, if he asks for Billions to fight its not enough and he is underreacting???. What a collective clownshow.
:jstr:
The Dem complaints I heard were raiding Ebola funds intended for the Congo to use on COVID-19 response. Can you get any more idiotic?

Quick report before I try and catch up...

Took Mom to urgent care because she got something in her foot and it may be infected. People being screened, found out this morning 2 confirmed in nearby hospital in Contra Costa County, California. Usually, masks are available and there is a box of them in the lobby, but they are only passing them out if people have certain symptoms and the usual box in the lobby is gone. Plenty of hand sanitizer though and several folks were using it a lot.

Dr. gave my mom some kind of high powered antibiotic ointment instead of oral antibiotics. Don't know if there's a shortage yet or if the hard core commie doctor(who wants to do away with combustion engines-groan...)doesn't want to write the prescription.

She'll probably have to go back again like before when she stepped on a nail.

A few patients wearing masks but no more than usual...

Went out for more preps and no humongous holes in supply yet.... Stopped at Costco and WalMart everything looked normal..

Sounds like Rush is either sicker than we thought, or his new medal has gone to his head. What he is saying is beyond stupid, not because this flu (or "common cold" as he calls it) is physically dangerous, because there's evidence it's not particularly deadly. The danger is in how virulent it is (both pre- and post-symptomatic = high R0). That's important because of the cascading global economic effect it could have. Low savings rates + fragile global supply lines + just-in-time inventories = potential economic disaster on par with or greater than the Great Recession. Is this the eqivalent of the Spanish Flu? I doubt it, but economically it could be a real black swan event.

I think that Rush does not think he will survive this virus.

Make sure that it has the www. in front of it, otherwise their internal DNS servers won't know exactly what you want. TCP 80 is not the only thing that is web facing on .MIL servers a lot of time...

Anything of interest?

Posted videos should have a a bit of a summary.

I posted this from my mobile device running errands right after the show.

Truthfully Tucker's show is covering a lot of ground now that he is focused on this pandemic.

He spent half of his show yesterday on the Coronavirus with a lot of content.

The problem is YouTube is pulling them down shortly after they are posted so it is a catch or miss, so watch them while you can.

The one I posted yesterday was a full 30mins, today it was reduced to only the first 7:19 minutes of the broadcast. vvv

Watch it before YouTube pulls it down...

It is warm in Singapore and it does not seem to slow the virus down.
My personal belief is that it has less to do with temperature and more to do with sunlight. Singapore as a nearly constant 12 hour day year round. Where I am at, there are a little over 11 hours of sun today. In early March, there are 12 hours. Mid April, there are 13 hours. And it keeps increasing until Summer Solstice with 14 and a half hours.
Why sunlight?
First, I have read that Ultraviolet Light is known to kill virus. More sunlight equals more UV on exposed surfaces.
Second, sunlight is a component to Vitamin D production in the body. Vitamin D does not kill the virus on exposed surfaces but boosts your immune system.
Other than that, I do not know of a reason to expect the virus to subside in summer. I have lived in the cold (Alaska) and can assure you that cold, in and of itself, does not cause illness.
BTW, none of this is based on anything I have read. It is just a SWAG (shitty wild assed guess)

Not yet, but this afternoon we had what sounded like a fighter jet going hell bent for leather over our house...that's pretty rare. About half an hour later, what sounded like a heavy transport going overhead. Could be nothing at all, but it was enough to make me scramble to the windows (they were already gone).

There are things the government can do to slow the spread in hopes of a vaccine or effective treatment, and things they can not or will not do.

All universities and schools can be canceled for a time. Dorms probably stay open.
All sporting events, concerts, and others can be televised only, no attendance.
No public gatherings including church and political.
Restricted travel for necessary only but not no travel.
Video conference for many medical, legal, and other services. In person only when necessary.

Unless they grant immediate unemployment benefits to all affected, most work can not be canceled as many live paycheck to paycheck and other work is necessary for society.
Grocery, gas, and other necessary stores can not be closed.
Day care can not be canceled.
Communication would have to be good to get the majority to agree and comply.

In short, they can flatten the curve of infected vs. time instead of having a high narrow peak, reducing strain on the health care system but the total eventual area under the curve will probably stay about the same. It buys time for hope.

Here is a way you can "keep a copy" for your own records...

What I have been doing is running Firefox with Noscript, and then changing the youtube.com to youtubepp.com and it pulls if from one of the youtube downloader sites. That site does have annoying pop-ups, but if you are running firefox with Noscript it blocks the pop-ups just fine but still allows you to download the .mp4 file you want.

Another one of the sites I use (also with Firefox and NoScript) is www . savethevideo . com . It has a similar pop-up issue, but NoScript blocks that with no problem. Savethevideo works with a LOT of video sites, not just youtube. I use it to pull twitter videos (you don't even have to have a twitter account).

yes, yes . . . all that is fine and well . . . for introverts.
but it does not work for extroverts. look at Wuhan. They tried that shit and people are still going to the park for breakfast soup . . . which I cannot understand to begin with . . . soup? breakfast? whose stupid idea was that? an extrovert no doubt? a commie, liberal, extrovert. and that during the middle of a quarantine lock down.
they will not comply . . . it does not apply to them

'SOFT LOCKDOWN' of Tokyo?

Christopher Johnson
@globaliteman

Dentsu, Shiseido tell workers to stay home after 1 man tested positive in office towers near Tokyo station. Is this how "soft lockdown" of world's most populous megacity begins? Think back to 2011 when most stayed home, shops + trains were empty. #COVID19

Shiseido told 8,000 employees (30% of its workforce) to work from home starting today. Guessing it’s bc their head office is across the street from Dentsu Tower... where co. reported yday an employee tested positive for coronavirus.

Did they say which hospital(s)? Now they're saying three, at different hospitals, transferred from Travis.

Wow, folks. A major shift on a Facebook. Two days ago I didn’t see a single person talking about the virus. Now tonight I popped on to have a look, and nearly half of my newsfeed is people talking about the virus or asking about what they should do/buy to prepare. I even had two ads for long term freeze-dried food plus an alert about the coronavirus. I almost got the impression that Facebook somehow got the nudge to make sure everyone is seeing and taking about it, because it was all pushed up to the top of my newsfeed.

If you need any last minute runs to the store, do it now because the sheeple have woken.

Why?

If Trump WANTS to look Presidential during this, he should issue a serious, but not somber, tweet / statements that we are indeed facing a serious situation with the Coronavirus, but that he will authorize / activate all possible / necessary means of combating this in America, etc., etc.,and finish with something along the lines of "It is my FIRST responsibility,as the President, to do all I can to PROTECT the American people, and as such I will use all means available to me to do exactly that to the fullest extent possible."

Why? Any information coming from China isn't reliable. The same goes for Iran. There isn't enough data from the Western countries to go on yet. If he made the statements you're asking him to make and it turns out to be less than catastrophic, he would cause a panic. So, he needs to wait a bit.

And, "will use all means available", would definitely cause a panic.

If the majority comply (which is why you need good communication) then fine or arrest those that do not. If a great many do not comply, yes it has failed.

Pride comes before the fall.....Pride month ended.
The study’s estimate for when the virus started spreading is the earliest yet on record, suggesting that the virus may have first begun spreading in Wuhan as early as November 2019. It condemned the Chinese communist regime for failing to alert residents earlier about the outbreak to ensure that people took safety precautions, particularly at crowded events and in hospitals: “If the warning [after the market shut down in January] had attracted more attention, the number of cases both nationally and globally in mid-to-late January would have been reduced.”

Which means it took about THREE MONTHS from the time it was "let loose" until ti started reaching EPIDEMIC levels in Wuhan..........

60-90 DAYS..........
Somewhere back a few hundred pages a comment was made that there was a mysterious illness in Wuhan in September. So this timeline might not be accurate. Who knows, not WHO, or do they.

While that might very well work there would be riots in the streets when American Idiot , I mean Idol, didn’t air and there was no football on TV, and everybody ran out of soda and junk food. Most people don’t have more than three days worth of food much less three weeks.
Hell, I am all for three months of shut down to be be sure we get it right but.... people can’t handle a long weekend without going some where.
