Greetings, Everyone: Due to the intermittent reports on Ebola which are surfacing on a delayed basis Dennis recommended this should be a monthly thread.

If you post a stand alone thread on Main please double post it here so there is an archive that we can all research to find specific articles. Thank you. BREWER

Ebola approaching 30,000 cases as disease is still on the rise in May

Ebola is approaching 30,000 cases as disease is still on the rise in May.
Ebola was still on the rise during the month of May although not so sharply as late last year.
In May there was 784 new cases bringing the overall total to 27,074 and 265 deaths bringing total deaths to 11,155.

More Ebola news for May....

Sierra Leone News : Ebola Rages Afresh in Kaffu Bullom (Lungi) - Awareness Times
"There have been significant concerns raised over the weekend ending May 31st 2015, when it emerged that Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom within which is hosted Lungi, is now a new hotspot for active transmission of the Ebola virus in Sierra Leone. Within the last week, Ebola has killed at least half a dozen in Kaffu Bullom with even more getting infected. This has caused quarantining of many persons in the chiefdom."
"Reports are that an Ebola patient was sneaked into Kaffu Bullom chiefdom from Kambia district few weeks back and this is what has set off the chain reaction of Ebola infections in Kaffu Bullom. Meanwhile, an alert issued by Madam Zulaitu Cooper of the National Ebola Response Center has called on members of the public to be on a high alert for a family of five persons who fled quarantine in Kaffu Bullom. They are believed to have fled to hide in the Waterloo parts of Rural Western Area."

Ebola threat to Guinea Bissau rises as border zone heats up - WHTC

"Violent protests against Ebola controls in a north Guinea town have prompted the Red Cross to withdraw workers, undermining efforts to stop the spread of Ebola into neighboring Guinea Bissau. The Ebola epidemic was detected in Guinea over a year ago and has since killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa. But in a huge relief to officials and aid workers, it has not yet spread to Guinea Bissau, whose health system is deemed vulnerable even by low regional standards. Now, a spike in new cases in Guinea's Boke border province combined with violent resistance to efforts to control it there are stoking concerns it could spread. Boke had reported no Ebola cases for months and then reported six cases within a fortnight in May, resulting in a list of more than 230 people deemed at risk of catching the haemorrhagic fever, according to the World Health Organization."

So sad to see what they are doing to us. This site says another ebola case was flown into america last week. Notice the orange triangles that represent ebola is just sitting outside of africa when it should show 30k of them on that continent.

Does Mexico not report for that would be the tell tell root of our strange diseases coming across the border.

Ebola returns to Sierra Leone capital: government

FREETOWN (AFP) -
Sierra Leone has announced the return of Ebola to its capital Freetown, dashing hopes that health authorities in the densely-populated city of 1.2 million had beaten the deadly outbreak.

The government's National Ebola Response Centre (NERC) told AFP late on Tuesday three cases had emerged in the east-end slum of Magazine Wharf -- three weeks after the last known infections in the capital.

Health officials said six people have been under observation since the first of the new cases -- a casual labourer -- tested positive on June 17.

Authorities are concerned that the case could lead to a mini-outbreak in the overcrowded fishing community, which has poor sanitation and is regularly hit by outbreaks of malaria and cholera.

Liberia was declared Ebola-free in May, but hopes that neighbouring Sierra Leone and Guinea would quickly follow suit have been dashed recently, with the weekly toll of infections in the two countries hovering around 25.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned earlier this month that the retreat of the virus "that was apparent throughout April and early May has stalled".

One of the deadliest viruses known to man, Ebola is spread only through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person showing symptoms, such as fever or vomiting, or the recently deceased.

Authorities have blamed the failure of Sierra Leone and Guinea to eradicate the virus on people hiding deaths in the family and carrying out unsafe burials that are aiding Ebola's spread.

NERC chief executive Palo Conteh said he had received reports of expert disposal teams demanding money from bereaved families for burials and promised a "full inquiry" to bring the practice to a stop.

According to the WHO, as of June 21, there had been 27,443 confirmed, probable and suspected cases of Ebola in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, of which 11,207 were fatal.

Sierra Leone has seen almost half of the total caseload, reporting more than 3,900 deaths.

People in the worst-hit chiefdoms of Kambia and Port Loko have been confined to their homes until the beginning of August over fears that the disease is also resurgent in the northwest.

The country has also extended until September a nationwide state of emergency. The move restricts public gatherings and other activities that could spread the virus.
