Found a cookbook from 1915 available in PDF format online!

It's about a 19 year old girl's visit to the "Pennsylvania Germans" as she prepares herself for marriage, running the home, etc.

It reads much like a storybook, but has a ton of recipes & instructions tucked within!

Some of the things taught...

  • making a rag rug
  • pastries, patties, and rosenkuchen
  • about old potteries and decorated dishes
  • a potato pretzel

Along with some pretty poems and insight into life in PA.

The file is about 83 mb's... Worth it in my opinon!

WOW!!! I love this one even more!!!

In addition to hundreds of recipes from Apple Pie to Whortleberry Pudding, the book contains household hints, remedies and practical information on buying, cooking and storing food.

The book: The Frugal Housewife, Dedicated to Those Who Are Not Ashamed of Economy.
By Lydia Maria Francis Child
Boston: Carter and Hendee, 1830.

This book is said to be one that the pioneers would take with them on their journey!

This file is about 28 mbs

I've been combing through that first book & can't wait to get back to it.. lots of interesting reading! Thanks for sharing it Trek. :)

Now to go take a gander at that other one! I have a feeling I'm going to be goin back to both of them numerous times. Got to tell my Dad about that German one, being into genealogy & cooking.. I suspect he'd really like it too.
