[Mini- Rant] - Projections are suspiciously absent.

Fox just refused to even call Mississippi for Bush. In 2000, the same thing happened in GA and a few others, and now it is more widespread.

Mods - throw this in TIO when you slow down to read it, but I have to vent. The failure to call clear Republican states by now is not only a joke, but highly suspicious. (May I lobby for unexplained.)

Something isn't kosher - even on Fox.

[Edited to add - oops. I thought I was in the election forum, but have been jumping around quite a bit.]

[Edited again to change caption to tone down the rhetoric. I'm guessing everyone else is as high strung as I am tonight.]

If you ask me, it's the responsible thing to do. Until a large percentage of the votes are counted, no "calls" should be made. This is going to be a VERY close election, and IMO they're doing a service by not calling....

I agree. When they call the eastern states too early, it can influence voters in the western states who haven't voted yet.

Dennis,

I hear ya. But I'd actually favor real time tallies throughout the day, so people can vote if they don't like what's happening.

I distrust the media. IMHO, keeping it close is designed to allow westerners without any conviction to vote. It smacks of manipulation of the huddled masses.

P.S. Anyone who comes home from work in California and hears the Presidential election is over, and doesn't want to vote in state and local elections because of it, shouldn't.

[Edited to add: This just in. South Carolina for Bush! Who would have thunk it.]

IMO, there should be NO totals for the national election until ALL polls are closed nationwide.

DW and I were just talking about that Dennis........We think its unethical for the networks to do this.
Oneupmanship............bah.

Dennis,

I disagree. I'd go with multiple day voting, including weekends. Personally, I think I'd hate the results, but if you believe in "every voter counts", give them information so they may be motivated to express their opinion.

In my perfect world, only property owning, literate, etc. people should vote. But, if we are going to go through with this farce of an educated electorate voting, we may as well give them the chance to screw stuff up more.

Pretending that no one has voted does not accomplish anything. Unless you wish to game the system. Personally, I hate the system, but I'm against gaming elections.

IIRC, when I lived in OR, they didn't show any results on the tube until the polls closed. It was all local voting stuff until 8:00. I don't know if they still do that.
Here in the Central Zone, it isn't such a big deal, of course.

Dennis - do you remember? We both moved out here the same year, but my husband and I can't seem to remember. Gettin' old!

There is no mystery or conspiracy here. Since a couple networks made humongous asses of themselves last time around by prematurely calling the 2000 election for Gore, they are being overcautious this time. Does not anyone remember so recent and so important a historical event? Has no one heard all the networks talking about it?

Remember what happened last year? One of the networks called the election for Gore as winner. Maybe they don't want to be spanked again.
