Need plastic can lids

Does anyone know of a source for close fitting plastic lids for
cans of various food items?

Assuming refrigeration is available, how long could I keep a
"family" sized can of something like Chili? Or would I be prudent
to limit my economy sized purchases to dry foods and items like
powdered milk and coffee?

I've never been happy with storing food in an opened can in the fridge, except maybe overnight. Some things pick up a tinny taste and discolor pretty fast.

I got a mess of those Ziplock/Glad plastic containers with lids to simplify my food storage, after hauling off 2 full garbage sacks of margarine, yogurt, etc. containers that I could never find the right lid for--well worth the cost, and you can see through the blasted things!

At the bare minimum, I'd transfer the can contents to a few of those for fridge storage if you think you'd eat it all in a week. Better yet, divvy it up into smaller containers and freeze them.

Just got a 6-lb. can of roasted red peppers for $5, gonna drain them, pack and freeze them. I can slice off what I need without thawing if I put them in the flatter containers--just pop out the slab, slice, and put the rest right back in the container.

Let the macaroni salad season begin!

I used to use the yellow plastic lids that came on the Hershey's syrup cans to store vegetable sized cans. It's been so long since I've bought any that I don't know if it still comes with them on or not. Sometimes the can sizes change, so I don't know if they'd still work. You could save a few lids from margarine, sour cream, yogurt, etc. and see if any of those might work for small cans. I'm not sure what would work for bigger cans, maybe the lids from plastic ice cream and sherbert containers.
