A Tipi without a fire is just a tent, I always have a fire inside tipi are designed to allow this.

Had to ask thinking that many today would not dare, I'm sure you can stay nice and warm in the winter as long you do your best close off the bottom.

There is an inside liner that seals the bottom of the tipi. Vinyl coated poly on the bottom of the liner is buried to prevent drafts. The liner allows the fire to draw and it also prevents your shadow being seen on the outside of the tipi when the fire is going.

This is what the inside of the tipi looks like from the back looking towards the door. Beside the outside door there is also a liner panel that is an inside door.

The bottom edge of the liner is buried under dirt and rocks to hold it down and keep out unwanted guests.

Your to be admired for your talent I hope you're passing this on to others.
That a fair number of poles do you make and keep poles on site for your base camp where you trap so you don't have to lug all that with you?

I take my poles with me I have a rack I made on my big the to haul them. Finding the right poles (standing dead), cutting and pealing is a real pain so I only have one set for the tipi. They are not that hard to load and haul with me.

Nice work, I purchased a 20 footer made in Bend OR and lived in it for 2 years while building my house, I loved it. Acid rain from gen plants powered by coal destroyed it after 3 years. Tiny holes every time it rained or heavy dew fell and one day the wind cought it just right and ripped it to pieces. SO peaceful sleeping in it at night and during rain storms it just would put me to sleep.
