Cats Pancreatitis in Cats

Neither here nor there.
The Hillbilly has pancreatitis, he just finished his first round of steroids. His hair/fur is starting to grow back in and he’s starting to gain weight. Suggestions for helping him get better faster?

Oh man. That’s a tough row to hoe. I only know to put them on whatever food is recommended. But nothing to ramp up the speed of healing. So essentially, I’m bumping this again. I have had a dog and various patients with this and it seems it was more tincture of time. Prayers added for you and your baby.

She didn't make a food recomendation, yet, she wanted to keep him on his current food that I had switched him to and see how he does after a round of steroids.

Hmmm. Interesting. We have to do I/D for the dog. Believe it’s low protein. It may be that what you’re feeding is low enough for the vet. I have never been convinced that the food change was necessary after a month or so. In fact seems inferior to me. Pancreatitis is GENERALLY a thing you get through and after that you’re predisposed to it. So maybe that’s what she’s thinking. I would not give treats or any human stuff after this. But like I said, the special food never really convinced me since it smelled like cardboard and just HIGHLY gross smelling. Will never really know. However, the week before all this set in there were lots of beef leftovers that were put into the dogs food. Pancreatitis has a fat/protein cause - or so they suspect. But you might ring the vet and just see what she’s thinking and go from there. Again, I am not aware of anything that will speed healing except to make sure kitty isn’t in a lot of pain. Sounds like you’re ok in that department though. You might go look on the Merck Vet site and see if it answers any of your questions. The ONLY thing I can remotely think of is adding C60 to both your diets well after this episode is over. But obviously research out the yin-yang. I have only heard of dog owners using it on their pets. So...

they're currently on Iams Adult Cat food since they're both seniors. Only she gets treats and it's usually less than a teaspoon, the Hillbilly doesn't get treats but when he catches mice he does eat their heads. That may be why she chose to not change their diet. They were on Purina Pro and they both suddenly stopped eating it, which lead us to believe that there was something wrong with the stuff, it's a brand new bag of food.
