My wife has a bad case of toenail fungus and I'm looking for a good home remedy. There's quite a few options on Google but I'm curious if anyone has used one successfully?

Tea tree oil... rubbed into and under the nail and cuticle. Do it daily, and you'll see amazing results within a month.

Our milk tester's wife once spent over a year and over a thousand bucks fighting a really ugly caee of fingernail fungus. She was desperate. After using tea tree oil, she came back a month later in tears, showing me the new healthy nail growing in from the cuticle. Probably 90% of the redness and inflammation around the nails was gone. It took almost 8 m9nths for them to grow out completely, but they did.

Tea Tree oil was my salvation. For my 20 year old terminal case of tonail fungus, it took almost a year of twice daily coatings to do the trick. And that was after I gave up on all the stuff my doctor recommended, including systemic medicines.

That stuff has truly amazing properties. Some people dilute it with mineral oil and spray it on. I just stuck a q-tip in the bottle and blotted it on twice daily.. remembering to keep the feet dry. If you have lots of the thick dead toenail growth, clip and scrape away as much of the dead stuff as you can to speed up the process.

Diatomaceous Earth made the nails out grow the discoloration.
Not sure if it is the same thing, though.

She did the antibiotics route a few years ago and it wasn't enough apparently.

Tonight we started Tea Tree therapy. One toe is about 3-4 times as thick so I've got work to do. I've got a nail grinder that I'll use to slowly grind down the dead stuff. I've got to be careful to avoid ingrown toenail nails.

We plan to treat with Tea Tree twice daily and do twice weekly grinds and cleaning of the dead stuff. She has one active ingrown that we're also having to deal with.

I called a podiatrist today and they want $300 plus to cut it out (new patient + procedure). We're hoping to avoid that. She's needle phobic so she's motivated.

Thanks for the help.

Lamasil spray worked really really good for hubby, and he has had toe nail fungus all his life. Vicks Vapor rub helped before that.

Best to treat it.....it spreads. Good luck I took prescription for mine, takes forever cause the prescription allows you to grow healthy nails. You have to grow entire nail while taking prescription. I can't remember name of drug, but it is hard on liver. They are suppose to test for that.

Yeah, it "takes forever" no matter what you use. The woman i helped had the worst nails I've ever seen... the nailbeds and cuticles were inflamed and peeling... it was ugly and obviously uncomfortable.

She was able to see enough difference using the tea tree oil within a month (improved the condition of the soft tissues around the nails, and you could see just the start of a healthy nail beginning to show at the base of the nailbed) that it motivated her to keep it up.

But as i said, it took about 8 months for it to completely grow out and heal.

One thing... while anyone can get them, fungal infections are much more common in people with blood sugar problems. Cutting back on simple carbohydrates may well speed up the healing process.

I caught a snip on a radio show, The Dirt Doctor on one of the Houston AM stations.

He was saying something about using corn meal for this.

Don't remember the details tho....off to google

snip
Cornmeal is a great way to get rid of toenail fungus. Organic cornmeal hosts a fungus which is harmless to the human body but is deadly to Candida. Candida is essentially a fungal parasite that causes infections in people. In a large container, that is big enough to host feet, mix one cup of cornmeal with two quarts of water. Allow the cornmeal to soak in this water for at least one hour. After this soak your infected foot in this mixture for half an hour. If you can follow this remedy up once every week or so, you are bound to rid yourself of toenail fungus. Cornmeal is completely harmless to the skin and nails and can be used without the fear of any side effects.

Tea tree oil deeply massaged into nails, nail beds, cuticles etc morning and night.

Colloidal silver spray or cream would also be effective and you would have to literally sit for hours in baths of the stuff for months and months for it to absorb enough to cause Argyria.

Any method will require for than a couple months of attention. The fungus also has to be treated until it has completely been grown out and removed from the healthy nails.

Managed to get rid of mine with tea tree oil. You have to be persistent and consistent. But it did work. I just used a q-tip And saturated it under around and on the nail. Then waited for it to soak in prior to bed or using socks. Pretty amazing. I didn’t have a severe case but it still took about six months to kill it. Just have to resign yourself to the time. Prescriptions don’t work any faster and are not good for you at all. Used mine after a shower if possible because everything opens up so to speak but you don’t have to do that.

I think if I were doing it today I’d soak in Epsom salts and then let dry some and apply oil. Not sure that would help or be worth it. I did apply copious amounts of the oil.

Hi Jez,

Just saw this - I've been adding to my thread on alternative cancer treatments of pets and saw your thread.

Mushrooms are the new up and coming miracle treatment.

They are anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-cancer, anti-tumor. No side effects reported in all of the clinical studies done.

I don't know if using a solution of say, turkey tail mushroom powder, applied to the nail would work - paint it on and then wrap the toe.

Or taking double the dose listed on the bottle, orally, - tree mushrooms are anti-fungal. There are various ones - Reishi, Turkey Tail, Cordyceps, Maitaki, Lion's Mane.

I get my Turkey Tail mushroom (and others) on Amazon - buy organic, grown in the USA. In capsules. Easy to take.

There is a complex of mushrooms on Amazon also. I've used that before too. Since their medicinal action is synergistic - taking two or more different mushrooms really increases their medicinal properties - better than taking just one.

I would be interested in knowing if this would work on nail fungus. It's an expensive treatment.

I think these tree mushrooms can be purchased in powder or capsules in health food stores.
