Small trailers for bug-out

I'm toying with the idea of building a teardrop trailer for deep-woods camping and possible bug-out purposes. They're much smaller, lighter, and more maneuverable than the 25' Airstream I currently have. (Much easier to conceal, too).

I stumbled across this EXCELLENT link, which has tons of information already consolidated on one site. Hope you find it as interesting and informative as I did.

I've looked at the idea as well. I've decided against a 3/4 ton diesel 4x4 since their mpg is still under 20. I had thought of buying a camper that could be dismounted until bugout time.
Now, I'm looking at an 85 Toyota 4Runner, which will get better mpg,but it won't tow much with a 2.4ltr 4cyl. A small trailer might work well for that.

Sweet! What an excellent idea. My only problem with a teardrop trailer is I'm 6'2" and if I expected to sleep in it I'd need an "extend-cab."

BugOut Bear,

Check out this couple's construction pages:http://www.outbackteardrop.com/. Lots of detailed photographs and notes.

They've made theirs larger than the standard 4' X 8"; that's the cool thing about building your own. You can make it any size you want. I'm a six-footer myself, so I'd probably build one that's 5' x 10' or thereabouts.

There are commercial builders who have the larger sizes available, too, if you don't feel like taking on the project yourself.
