Planting Starting the growing cycle up again

Mid-February, so the amaryllis bulbs in the basement were showing green to having actual flower stalks! Up they come from the basement, the Christmas lights around the picture window come down, and now spring is starting in my window.

Three big pots of geraniums also had nice green leaves and shoots, so they were brought up, the dry stuff cleaned off them, watered, and now they are rejoicing in the sunshine too. They will go out to be be in the pot garden in May or June.Took some cuttings to root, also. With an early start like this, the plants will bush out and begin to bloom so much sooner.

This year money may be scarce for store bought, so it is nice to have flowers coming along, and propagating plants is fun. In a couple of weeks the slowest growing veggies get started from seed.

Tucked away in the back of a refrigerator drawer are the potato sets from last year's harvest; in March they will be brought out to chit prior to planting in May, again to get a timing jump on the growing season. Have to use the 'tricks' of all these years of growing things to outwit the Alaska climate. I've been gardening since I was five; 69 years!

What are you starting?

Love your gardens, my friend! I have celery seeds to start in next week or so, but soon have to drive up to North Pole. When I return I have a bunch more seeds on the schedule - can’t wait til the ground is warm enough to put them out, but love the green stuff inside too. And I have several potato varieties I saved from last year, plus a few more potato berries to see what comes up next!

Freds had some nice-looking peony roots, so I got two to add to my peony bed come thaw. And I saved a bunch of seeds to get started on my new herb bed. But, yep, still months away :)

Bless you ~~~

Things start rolling come April….but can’t wait for May when we get busy for real ;)

I am going to start onions in the next day or so and some herbs. I am looking at seed catalogs and on line deciding what I want. I have a Gurney's offer in the mail I am trying to decide if I want to plant strawberries again. I need a better plan to fight weeds. I have a lot of big plans and just hope I can get it all done.

I brought my blueberry bush (in a 2 gal bucket) in off the porch cause it is gonna get painted. The porch, not the bush.
After being in a warm house and sitting in front of the South facing glass doors, it is beginning to bud.
So I guess it is staying indoors til Spring.

Enjoyed a bright warm sunny day, the last one for a week. Well, it will stay warm until the weekend but there is supposed to rain all week, and then turn colder again.
Didn't want to do much today, just warmed up a can of corned beef hash, pinto beans, and mac and cheese.
