…… Weed burning torch help.

So bought another one because I could never get the other "free" one to work.

I can light the pilot but everytime I pull the trigger to open up the flame it chokes out.

Sounds like it burns up all the gas in the hose and dies.

I hate to ask this sounding like I'm a moron but wtf am I doing wrong.

I've tried 2 full 20 pound tanks.

Try cutting the gas pressure at tank. Slightly open valve.

Or stop smoking weed! JK :D

Several things: Try using an adjustable regular with gauges that show exactly what pressure you are feeding to the torch. Any old welding (gas) regulator will work. I find these things cheaply all the time. Actually, I have a shelf full of them and will send you one if you'd like. Also, your torch should have some way to adjust the flame at the handle end. If so, adjust it so that it always produces a small flame and lets you produce a larger one by squeezing the handle, instead of relying on a small pilot flame.

Lastly, I have a similar torch for burning weeds, but have never been satisfied with its performance. It takes too long to burn the weeds, especially in the spring when the weeds naturally contain a lot of moisture.

I find that just using a weed whacker or even a scythe type cutter to be much, much faster.

From what I understand you don't need to turn them to ash. You hit them and they should be dead in a day or so.

I have all manner of weed whacking off devices.

I just have some really obnoxious ones in my garden that just won't go away so I thought I would try something different.

I got another month before last frost so I can re burn if needed.

Good tips.

I grabbed one last fall for burning sandspurs but never opened it.

Ended up spraying them, we'll see how that worked in late summer.

you are probably triggering the tank safety valve - it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do - unfortunately it screws the normal use of a big torch ....

I use one for my small trash burner - need to open up that trigger SLOWly - mine is OK if I sneak up on it .....

You are basically cooking them. The cells boil and explode. You can accomplish the same thing with boiling water.

I agree with Doc. They're more trouble than they're worth. I have one that I have used two times: The first and the last.

Its my veggie garden, anywhere else around the property gets the liquid death.
Excellent idea!

Spent a hour today weeding the garding. Better break out the big torch. Just gotta be careful not to smoke the potatoes, asparagus, onions and yearly herbs, etc....

Got it at China freight.

It was 35 bucks but the total was only 30 something when I checked out so don't know if it was in sale or something.

I know all kinds of ways to burn weed.
(It's legal in my AO.)

PM me for advice if you really feel it necessary.

Locust, on the other hand...

Let's just say that one does not cut Locust saplings with an handsaw after breakfast vodka.
Most of the scars have healed. Most.

Burdock is just a pain in the ass.

Drizzling some old stale gas around the roots of plants you don't want will also work, but it makes Greta Toolberg really sad.

Win-win? YMMV.

I would carefully check the compatibility of the coupling(s) right out of the tank. Just because the tank seems to mate with your equipment hose, doesn't mean that they fully depress their internal safety valves. Different manufacturers' couplings don't always mate perfectly.
