Livestock What a day

Broken Arrow

Heathen Pagan Witch
Been a rough day here with one of my big rams going down and getting stuck on his side for several hours overnight. I got him up, nothing like dead lifting a 275lb ram. He's still not out of the woods but doing better.

Pulled a muscle in my butt and it hurts.

Ouch! If he's still breathing after several hours down, he's already beaten the odds. Push electrolytes and if he's not able to stand, make sure he's on plenty of bedding and gets rolled from side to side every couple of hours. Rhabdomyosis is the biggest risk.. muscle death and breakdown due to pressure and lack of circulation. Hope he makes it!

We ended up moving him to the barn and his own stall this afternoon. The other ram kept knocking him over. He has electrolytes in his water, and is able to get up on his own. He is eating, drinking, peeing and pooping so i'm holding my breath at this time. He's had banamine and B complex. He's just really unstable on his feet and keeps rolling his ankles under.

Fingers crossed.

If anybody wants to read the whole story, it's here.
