Someone asked about soap bags. They are exactly what they sound like - small bags that hold soap or soap slivers. You can wash with them, then hang them up to dry, making washcloths unnecessary and making it easier to hang onto your soap. Some of my customers use them to keep their husbands from using their soap, lol.

Hello all, lets see I sew many things, spin wool, wash and card, knit, crochet, nalbind, quilt, embroidery, bead, cross stitch, work with wood in the way of walking sticks and canes.

I sew more then anything else and have been doing it since I was 10. That was the year my Mom passed away and I had a Great Aunt that lived near by. She would pick me up every weekend and she taught me how to sew. It was one of the very best things that ever happened to me even 50 some years later. By the time I was in my teens I was creating my own sewing patterns and making my own clothing. I made my own wedding dress at 20 and made the front page of the local paper in it. I have sewn everything under the sun with every kind of fabric. I have accumulated material to the point where if I started sewing today I could never use it all.
I participated in a co-op a few years ago where ten of us opened a gift shop in a small tourist town near me. I made ladies tops in all sizes and small bohemian type purses that sold very quickly. I also made many types of jewelry with paper and glass beads as well as wooden hair sticks and herbal products. I also dye my own fabrics and I've made hats, coats and bridesmaid dresses as well as alterations over the years. Sewing is my first love.

Thought I'd try to get a few pictures to add here today but didn't have much luck with my camera. I have no editing software yet so couldn't adjust the pictures. Most weren't worth saving but I cropped a couple so you can see a few of the tops I've made. The camo top has an A line skirt that goes with it and the bottom picture is of the newest top I made. It's comfortable and very nice on. Here goes.

Vicki I LOVE your tops, great pics! We really have a talented and hard-working crew here, don't we!? I do wish we had more than 24 hours...especially in the summer with all the outside work. Thank you Reaganchick. I have to tell you the color is kind of odd. I dyed it myself and it's a brownish purple. Purple has always been a good color for me but not so much brown. I love the richness of browns so I mixed the colors and it worked.

Thank you Gizbe. I love patchwork in general and I find it gives more choices in matching up with skirts or pants. I made that pattern and plan to use it again. I know I should be quilting and have seven antique quilts that I inherited that have one side done and all the material stacked for the other side. Some day. I know we ALL say that! lol

I really like this new room and look forward to all of the new ideas here. I wish YouTube had been around when I was a kid. It is so much fun seeing all the creative projects people come up with. It would have been so much easier learning from others instead of trying to figure it out by myself from books.
I started sewing my own doll clothes at age 5 when mom taught me how to use the machine and learned to crochet from my neighbor when I was 8. She always told me I'd never be any good at it because I used my fingers too much but it didn't stop me and soon I had taught myself many more stitches than she ever knew.
I taught myself to knit when I was 10 and because I was already doing a lot of crochet, I always knitted with my tension yarn held in my left hand. It just felt right and I couldn't figure out the throw thingy with the right hand. Why bother doing everything with the right hand when you've got a perfectly good left hand to help. Today I am a fairly fast knitter and it really relaxes me.
My mom could sew, mend and do embroidery but she couldn't figure out crochet because she was left handed. I taught her how to crochet after I sat down and studied the stitches to figure out how to do them inside out and backwards. Then it made sense to her. She went on to make several really nice afghans and really enjoyed crocheting in her later years. It was really funny because, as a right handed person I had a hard time working on her projects, like if I was trying to help her fix a mistake. It just took so much thinking to make it work. I guess that's how she felt when trying to learn it in the beginning from right handed people.
I have also done many other kinds of hand crafts but rarely had time to complete most of the projects I started. That is why, in the last year I started knitting hats for the chemo clinic. I had all of this yarn sitting around (I LOVE yarn and will buy it even if I don't have a project for it. Hello, my name is Betty and I am a yarnaholic.) from so many unfinished projects that I decided to put it to good use. Unfortunately knitting hats has turned into an addiction and I need to find more outlets for the finished products.
I am still trying to find the pattern directions for my unfinished crocheted snowflake afghan that I really want to complete. I can probably figure it out if I try but right now I just can't seem to put down this darn knitting. I wonder sometimes if I am getting ready for the coming ice age when the world will need millions of hats. Here is the picture of one of the motifs for the snowflake afghan if anyone has the pattern.

ShyGirl, I, too, am a yarnaholic. Seriously. I did manage to talk myself out of buying more yesterday, but it was hard, lol. My hubby says I have more yarn than Hobby Lobby. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much.

I weave, spin, crochet, tat, and make soap among other things, although I haven't done any tatting for a couple years. I've been focusing mainly on weaving and spinning and soap-making lately. I weave rugs on my Union loom to sell on Etsy. The more delicate weavings are done on my 4-harness loom (for my own enjoyment, not to sell, at least right now). I've been playing with "shadow weaving" techniques on my fabrics.
Oh, and I like to dye fabrics/fibers too, now and then. I love making my own soap and experimenting with different "healing" oils and herbs from my own garden.

My name is Mushroom. I am a yarnaholic. I have enough yarn in my collection to make a hat for every person in the surrounding 3 states but I did see some lovely yarn on sale today.....
I used to make lots of different things but my eyes are not what they once were and now my hands are failing me. I make a lot of socks and inflict them on unsuspecting relatives. I make heavy boot sox for my husband who has finally (after 58 years) decided he likes my hand made sox. I use double strand of sock yarn and size 4 needles. He loves that he never has to worry about where the seam will hit his toes. No seams.
I still make a few sweaters, hats, scarves, and shoulder shawls but I can't see the charts anymore so they have to be simple or an easily memorized pattern.
I learned to knit in junior high. My lefthanded sister taught me so I knit funny. Being a control freak, I can't do continental knitting where the yarn floats free and I may or may not catch it and keep it. My grip is firm and that yarn does not get away from me but my technique is somewhat odd. Knitting is very zen for me so it calms my nerves when my husband is driving. Also having the advantage of not having to watch the road much. the plus is he gets a comfy pair of boot socks to cuddle his old tired feet.

Thank you Deena! I'm sorry it took me so long to respond but the gardens have been exploding this year and it's been crazy busy.
This room will get much deserved attention come fall and winter I'm sure.
