Has No Life - Lives on TB
Yeah, Pinecone. Did you see the video where they were fighting over the foor at the supermarket. It looked as though everything the lady was buying was greens and other veggies. Nothing substantial for energy, no cans of anything, that I could see.
I didn't, Goosebeans. But having lived overseas in third world countries and being caught up in a war zone at one time, it breaks my heart to think of what these people must be going through.

There is a real middle class there now and then there are the factory workers. They still get paid horribly and not treated very well. The thinking goes If one leaves many more to replace them. No big deal. Although I've never seen any of their homes inside I've seen some outside and they look BaD... It's very sad. I can imagine that many in the city have very little food put away. One thing to note is that the Chinese have the mentality of me me me and won't often lift a finger to help a neighbor or a stranger in need like we do. I really feel for any vulnerable person stuck there now.

So many overseas don't prep because they can't. Refrigerators are tiny dorm types if they have them at all. Or electricity. Or heat. They don't have space like we do. Nor storage facilities. Nor funds.

I watched a documentary years ago on how life is in parts of China where working in a factory was more than just a job. The part I remember is that one of the perks of working in a factory was that there were bath rooms, warm with warm water, in which to bathe. Their homes had no heat, in a place where winters could be very cold. They would take their children there once a week to bathe them, and I guess themselves. It was too cold in their homes to undress their children even if they had warm water for bathing. This was a serious perk. Things were that bad. Are they better now? I don't know.

Those people in Wuhan, even if it is 11 million strong, are most likely in dire straits. In the middle of an epidemic which has uncertain mortality. Limited supplies. Scared. With family members who may be sick, with limited medical facilities at the best of times. Little or no supplies now.

I pray that they overcome this terrible new disease, not only for the rest of the world, but for themselves. I pray they find comfort, that their families are reunited and that they have the basics of life met. We may be at odds with the government, but people are pretty much the same the world over. In the end, we are all inhabitants of a tiny, fragile blue/green paradise in the cold vacuum of space. Prayers for the people of Wuhan. Prayers for us all.

Here's another article in Chinese that I ran through Google Translate, so there may be some bumpy reading.

Guan Yi: After hundreds of battles, I feel extremely weak this time (Update)
January 23, 2020 11:36 from Caixin.com
[Caixin.com] (Reporter Wang Duan Wen Simin in Hong Kong)

It is impossible to compare with the SARS epidemic. The SARS transmission chain is clear, but Wuhan pneumonia has spread.

Guan Yi just returned from Wuhan yesterday (January 22).

"Even I chose to be a deserter." Guan Yi is an expert in the field of virology and currently serves as the director of the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases and the Director of the Influenza Research Center of the University of Hong Kong. Earlier in an interview with Caixin reporters, Accurate judgments have been made on Wuhan's human-to-human transmission and development curve. (See the report from SARS expert Guan Yi: Wuhan pneumonia development curve is highly similar to SARS )

"I'm segregating myself now." Guan Yi locked himself in the room. From January 21st to 22nd, he and his team came to Wuhan, hoping to help find animal sources and cooperation in epidemic prevention, but "there is no power, Sadness comes from the heart. "

During the SARS outbreak in 2003, Guan Yi and his team initiated the investigation and diagnosis of SARS pathogens in Guangdong, taking the lead in isolating and identifying SARS coronavirus and proving that market wildlife such as civet cats are the direct source of SARS. The government was advised to ban the wildlife market and curb The SARS outbreak and epidemic again. In addition, he has identified all major precursors and routes of transmission of the H5N1 influenza virus currently circulating in Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa, and provided most of the pre-pandemic H5N1 vaccine strains proposed by WHO.

The epidemic in Wuhan is still spreading. As of 24:00 on January 22, the National Health Commission announced that 571 cases of pneumonia confirmed by new coronavirus infection have been reported in 25 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) nationwide, including 95 severe cases and 17 deaths. Among them, as of 8 pm on the 22nd, Hubei Province reported a total of 444 new cases of coronavirus infection, and 17 deaths came from Hubei. At two o'clock in the morning on January 23, Wuhan finally issued a notice of traffic closure.

Guan Yi had an optimistic estimation of the situation when he was interviewed by Ta Kung Pao on January 15, but now the judgement has turned down. He responded that because the notice issued by Wuhan Health and Health Commission from January 11 to 16 was maintained There were 41 cases of pneumonia and no new cases. "I was a little optimistic at the time. If there are no new cases in a few days, that is, more than 12 days, it means that we will win this tough battle."

Guan Yi pointed out in an interview with Caixin reporter on the morning of January 23 that the actual effect of the city closure is questionable, because many people have already flowed out to go home for the New Year. Conservatively, the scale of Wuhan pneumonia infection is much larger than SARS.

In addition, Zhu Huachen, deputy director of the Institute of Virology of the University of Hong Kong also agreed that the impact of the new coronavirus in Wuhan will far exceed the scale of SARS that year. She pointed out that according to the current case data, the symptoms caused by this virus are very different, ranging from mild to invisible symptoms to severe patients, while SARS in general are mostly severe patients, and symptoms will soon appear after infection. Therefore, compared with SARS, Wuhan pneumonia this time is more difficult to prevent and control. In the long run, a very toxic virus is difficult to survive for a long time, because people who are infected will soon be found, quarantined, or even died soon. It is not easy for the virus to find more infected objects.

As a new virus, the development trajectory is generally: the initial transmission is weak, and the symptoms of infected people are generally mild, but if the virus is not controlled during this golden time period, it may cause large-scale infection. Once the virus has survived and adapted to many people, it has the opportunity to mutate further, producing mutations that are more transmissive and more toxic. Zhu Huachen said that if Wuhan ’s new coronavirus has spread widely, it may not be removed as easily as SARS. Therefore, it is imperative to cut off the transmission channels of the virus as soon as possible.

Caixin Reporter: What have you observed in Wuhan recently?

Guan Yi: I arrived in Wuhan on the 21st and arrived at a local vegetable market called Xiaodongmen Market at 3 pm. The scene was peaceful and many people were still busy buying New Year's goods. I was extremely surprised. Because this time Wuhan pneumonia originated from the South China seafood market, the source of animal infections has not yet been found, and other vegetable markets appear to be unsatisfactory. The Xiaodongmen market is humid, the hygiene is very poor, and the ventilation equipment is poor. I observe that less than 10% of the people in the market wear masks.

After that, I met some local departments again. At night, I judged that the epidemic situation was out of control in Wuhan. Even people like me who have been “struggled in battle” have to be deserters, so I quickly settled on the 22nd. Out-of-city tickets.

At the airport the next day, I was surprised again that I dropped my chin. The airport's passenger flow has dropped significantly, and the airport actually has individual tours.

What's even more puzzling is that the ground of the airport is not disinfected, and only the thermometer is used to monitor the body temperature. I observed that in the Wuhan terminal, only sporadic places such as Starbucks put disinfectant.

When I passed the security check, the little security girl holding the luggage box was wearing only the simplest disposable mask. I said: Girl, the quality of your mask is not good, and you are in contact with so many passengers every day. She said that she was not allowed to wear it because she was worried about affecting the image, which was prepared by herself.

This shows that even though the central authorities have spoken highly in the past two days, the local health protection has not been upgraded at all. I thought at the time that this was going to be a "state of war." Why hadn't the alarm been raised? The people were so pitiful that they were still preparing for the New Year with peace of mind and had no sense of the epidemic.

Caixin Reporter: What progress have you made in finding animal sources in Wuhan?

Guan Yi: I ate a lot behind closed doors, and there were not many scientific research institutions willing to cooperate.

They are inertia in management and may consider themselves more capable.

But the key point I want to point out was that the South China Seafood Market was closed, the floor was washed, and the "crime scene" was gone. How can we solve the case without evidence? Tracing the source of an animal is a relatively complicated process. I cannot easily find an animal with a virus and blame it as the culprit. It requires scientific analysis such as scale and system.

Caixin Reporter: How to treat Wuhan ’s closure?

Guan Yi: Evaluating a measure depends on the time and effect. At the time, I feel that the golden prevention and control period has been missed, and I am not optimistic about the effect. According to my observations, the flow of people on the streets of Wuhan City has significantly decreased on the 21st, the Spring Festival tide is almost over, and many young people or hometowns have returned home for the Chinese New Year. They may have come into contact with patients in the community and left the city It is still in the incubation period, and it is likely to be mobile viruses. When these people returned to their hometowns, they took the virus to all parts of the country. Starting from their departure on the 17th and 18th, people on the 25th and 26th may need to pay more attention.

In addition, those who have left the city will not or do not understand how to isolate themselves. I don't think the local government has done anything, and even a quarantine guide has not been given to those who have left the city.

On January 20th, the National Health and Medical Commission has issued a document to include Wuhan pneumonia into the legal management of Class B infectious diseases, and adopted measures for the prevention and control of Class A infectious diseases. However, according to my observations and investigations, I still have Wuhan Undefended city.

Caixin Reporter: How to determine the trend of the next epidemic?

Guan Yi: The outbreak is certain. "Wuhan's nine provinces are all connected", coupled with missing the gold prevention and control period, and the tide of the Spring Festival, some people do nothing.

I have also counted hundreds of battles and experienced bird flu, SARS, H5N1, swine fever and so on. But for this pneumonia in Wuhan, I really feel extremely weak. There is simply no comparison with the SARS epidemic. At that time, SARS first developed in several cities in the Pearl River Delta, followed by Beijing and Hong Kong

60% -70% of the SARS infected people are from individual super communicators, and the transmission chain is very clear, as long as the contacts of those people are blocked. But this time, the source of transmission has been fully spread, and epidemiological investigations are no longer possible. And to control costs, you should use a geometric digital meter.

It is conservatively estimated that the scale of the infection may eventually take off 10 times that of SARS. I've experienced so much, I've never felt scared, most of them are controllable, but this time I'm scared.

Caixin Reporter:
As an individual, what can you do now, and how should you do it?

Guan Yi: If you have been to Wuhan, please isolate yourself. Take myself as an example. When I left Wuhan, I wore a mask all the way on the plane. As soon as I was off the plane, I used alcohol disinfectant to disinfect all my clothes, shoes, and luggage. I also asked everyone in the team to prepare supplies. The house was self-isolated for at least five days, and reported every morning and evening with or without symptoms. Other people who have not been to Wuhan try to go to public places as little as possible. Once they feel uncomfortable, seek medical treatment as soon as possible and avoid contact with others.

Caixin Reporter: Why is there a sudden increase in new cases? You have expressed optimistic judgment in an interview with Ta Kung Pao earlier.

Guan Yi: I have reported no new cases for a few days before. At that time, I was still a little optimistic. If there are no new cases in a few days, that is, more than 12 days, it means that we will win this tough battle. (In the circular issued by the Wuhan Municipal Health Commission from January 11 to 16, all 41 cases of pneumonia with new coronavirus infection were maintained, no new cases were added.)

But now there are a lot of new cases. I want to say that it's not more powerful than anyone else, it's really about being responsible to the country and the people.

This virologist says that there is no snake in the RNAof this virus (as opposed to the doctors who say there is, see post above). Just goes to show that there are different scientists with different opinions, eventually it will get sorted out.

Some clarification on the doctor who caught the disease through his eyes. It was the pulmonologist, not the neuro-surgeon, which still begs the question of how the neuro-surgery team (doctor and nurses) contracted the disease during surgery.

Curcumin suppression of cytokine release and cytokine storm. A potential therapy for patients with Ebola and other severe viral infections.(SARS) [SARS added by me.]
Sordillo PP1, Helson L2.
Author information

Abstract

BACKGROUND:
The terminal stage of Ebola and other viral diseases is often the onset of a cytokine storm, the massive overproduction of cytokines by the body's immune system.
MATERIALS AND METHODS:
The actions of curcumin in suppressing cytokine release and cytokine storm are discussed.
RESULTS:
Curcumin blocks cytokine release, most importantly the key pro-inflammatory cytokines, interleukin-1, interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α. The suppression of cytokine release by curcumin correlates with clinical improvement in experimental models of disease conditions where a cytokine storm plays a significant role in mortality.
CONCLUSION:
The use of curcumin should be investigated in patients with Ebola and cytokine storm. Intravenous formulations may allow achievement of therapeutic blood levels of curcumin.

Good!! The only possible positive is when we're hurt or misused it strengthens our resolve that we will do all we can to never ever let anyone else suffer the same way... I bet you were / are one hell of a nurse! : )

Was older - thirty two, when I joined - and always tried to keep in mind that "This kid's family is at home worrying about him, soldier or not, he's sure as hell going to be treated the way I would want mine to be treated!"

Didn't get to finish the senior year of Nursing school due to pregnancy complications. (hey, at 37, we had to get busy!) Decided to get out. Loved the army but will never regret staying home with our son.

Same here, Pinecone. It's after 3 am here and can't sleep for thinking of those poor souls. And not to mention the engineers from NC. I would imagine they're holed up in a hotel. Are the hotel workers going to stay at their jobs and take care of them, or are they going to say "to heck with this" and head home to help their own starving families.

The engineers are heading home. Hopefully safe and well.

Like someone said way back there are probably a few hundred foreigners in Wuhan at anytime. Hope they all were out before they locked down the city.

Wuhan is a major hub for trains and planes and most of the holiday travelers had already spread out from the city. They closed the barn door too late.....

That's exactly what I was thinking, NCgirl. Koreans and Japanese much the same. Totally different mindset to us. I do know that family, especially parents, come before even a husband. One western husband, said ( a comment on youtube) that he's well away that on his wife's priorities are her parents, the kids, the dog then him. He said it's just the way it is there.

Thank you for your integrity in offering your disclaimer. You are quite correct in your caution. Historically, the fatality rate form the Spanish Influenza was between 10 and 20%, a far, far cry from where we are at with this infection.

Regardless of what the media and publicity-seeking professors have to say already it is too soon to speculate. It could go full-on pandemic, it could move fast and die fast like SARS, or it could fiddle-fart around and wreak modest havoc for months before falling into the background. Only time and not Twitter, will tell.

RR
I debated whether to post it or not because the headline was so inflammatory but because the scientists she quoted were quoted in other articles on the thread decided to go ahead, but with the disclaimer. I'm trying to post what I find to be helpful without spreading doom panic unnecessarily. I think we all want to be ahead of the curve, but maintain calm at the same time. It's not time to panic, not here anyway. If I was in China it would be different, which reminds me, we haven't heard from Burrito today. If you're reading, please check in.

I'm here HD, thanks for asking. We did the cleaning before the new year today so I have been busy. We found a box of surgical masks when we were cleaning which is awesome! I am going to try to make some colloidal silver if I can get a hold of some distilled water(or just find a way to distill my own). I need to watch a video on how to make it. I have a variable voltage power supply, and I gave my father-in-law a 10oz silver bar 2 years ago as a gift. I should be able to find a way to make some. ETA: I see that it really needs to be .9999% pure, but I don't have access to anything that pure. I will have to make due with what I have.

Wife is very concerned about me going to Beijing for my flight back to the states on Feb. 1st. She said that is the most dangerous time because everyone is traveling back after the festival. I am going to play things by ear and see how the next few days progress. I might have to call my boss and change to a later date if things start looking dangerous.

Any help in regards to making and using colloidal silver will be VERY MUCH appreciated. I'll ask the wife if she has any more news I can share.

This source is constantly being updated with new coronavirus information as it becomes available. The link below is to the new coronavirus section over at Flutrackers.com. They have data broken out by cases per country and available studies and available research. I debated making this post it's own thread so it wouldn't get lost in the depths of this one.

FOLKS, PLEASE! Go buy as many sets of swim goggles as loved ones, to prevent EYE transmission of coronavirus and Go buy at least a couple bottles of NATURE'S WAY TURMERIC standardized to 95% curcumin for each loved one. 500mg yellow tablets, with 450mg of that is CURCUMIN.
I have insisted that unless it tells you HOW MUCH CURCUMIN is in the tablet DO NOT BUY ANY OTHER BRAND!
Some others have as little as 20mg! You would have to take 10.5 of THEIR tablets to equal the curcumin in only ONE Natures Way Turmeric tablet! Either most do not list how much curcumin is in it or else deceive you by saying "we have standardized to 95% curcumin extract too, but they do not tell you HOW MUCH (in mg. ) of that "pure curcumin" they actually include, most do not include enough curcumin to do any good at all!

This brand of Turmeric tablets WILL STOP YOU FROM DYING from a "cytokine storm" in the end stages of that infection!
The end stage is when your immune system PANICS and starts attacking even healthy cells in a cytokine storm. That is what kills you. The coronavirus only TRIGGERS IT.

It's way past too late to try and contain this. With the mass numbers of Chinese traveling over the holidays? With the number of international cases?

These are the preps I'm currently working on for my family - just in case:

talk to healthcare professional about appropriate care & treatment for family members
Get supplies needed to set up a sick/quarantine room
Make sure appropriate OTC medications and scripts are filled and in date
Have ready to eat or easy to prepare meals like canned soup in stock, Jello
Check medical equipment thermometer and BP cuff.
Some rehydration fluid or powders could be a good thing to have on hand (Pedialyte for nutrients and electrolytes, I also like: Emergen-C - no I don't buy stock in either company)
Paper towels, baby wipes, disposable plates and cups could come in handy
cleaning and sanitation supplies
A supply of good old fashion tea
Debating getting a bedpan

I may pick up some CURCUMIN. ainitfunny seems to set store by it.

I'm just a concerned Mom not a health care professional.

It will cost you +/- $30 to get a hold of a CHINESE .999 PURE SILVER PANDA COIN.
Or, buy one or two Canadian Maple leaf coins (.9999) for about $21 each before you go. (JM Bullion)

CUT IT IN HALF ( or else buy TWO coins) AND POUND EACH HALF OF IT, or each coin INTO A LONG THIN ELECTRODE AND CLIP or tape A WIRE FROM EACH EACH ELECTRODE YOU MADE TO THE VARIABLE VOLTAGE SUPPLY AND SET IT TO 24 TO 36 volts DC.
(You can also make it with three FRESH 9 volt batteries snapped to each other in a line, as a power supply.)

CUT A PIECE OF CARDBOARD WITH TWO SLITS TO HOLD THE ELECTRODES (apart) IN YOUR CONTAINER OF DISTILLED WATER with the two wires being out of the water, only the electrodes are wet. (try to make them long so the process goes faster.)
*If you have a pocket RED LASER, you can check if your water is REALLY distilled because the laser beam will not be visible in distilled water. After your distilled water has become ionic silver water, the laser will show a bright red beam in the ionic silver solution.

It takes many hours for it to even appear like it is working. When you start seeing a cloud AROUND ONE ELECTRODE, It is working very well. One electrode will get a "black beard" on it, that shows it worked. Let it "cook" as long as you can. I have even left it go overnight. too strong wont hurt, too weak won't help anything.

Try to find a brown beer or other dark colored bottle to put the ionic silver solution you made into. Sunlight will somehow make it less effective and may somehow neutralize it I am told. If you cannot find dark bottles, just wrap aluminum foil (or a mylar potato chip bag )around the bottle and then put it into a paper bag to keep light from it.

SAVE THE ELECTRODES YOU MADE, they will make countless future bottles of ionic silver. You can TRADE some of the ionic silver antiseptic/antibiotic solution you made to Chinese friends who need something for preventing wounds from infection or to inhale in a nebulizer for lung diseases (if they have nebulizers in China.)

If I was in China with a coronaviris lung disease, I would get a COLD WATER VAPORIZOR AND FILL IT WITH ionic silver solution, and sit close to it with a cloth over my head and breathe the vapor as you would with a nebulizer. It would work because the cold water vaporizer just atomizes the liquid in it. A hot water vaporizer might turn the solution to steam vapor but leave the silver in the bottom of the vaporizer, I DON'T KNOW.

A second city is on lockdown. I highly suspect actual infection numbers are MUCH higher than is reported. It doesn't make sense to lock down a city of 11 million than a city of 7 million if there are really only 570+- cases.

Fear grips Chinese city as virus lockdown begins

A second Chinese city will go into lockdown in an effort to control the spread of a new virus which has left 17 dead in the country.

Authorities have suspended planes and trains in and out of Wuhan - a city of 11 million people - as well as all public transport within the city.

Similar measures will take effect in nearby Huanggang, a city of more than seven million, as of midnight.

There are more than 500 confirmed cases of the virus, which has spread abroad.

Countries around the world have announced they will be screening travellers for signs of infection.

Wuhan is at the centre of the outbreak and believed to be where the new strain of coronavirus originated.

Residents have been told not to leave. Worried about a food shortage, one Wuhan resident said it felt like "the end of the world".

The lockdown comes as millions of Chinese people travel across the country for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

All outbound flights from Wuhan have been suspended as of Thursday. Several regional airlines - including Malaysia's AirAsia and Singapore Airlines' budget carrier Scoot - have announced a temporary halt to flights to and from Wuhan.

Another Wuhan resident said on social media site Weibo that they were on the "verge of tears" when they heard about the closures.

What's the latest?
The public transport lockdown came into force as of 10:00 local time (02:00 GMT), leaving normally busy train stations and airports empty.

Supermarket shelves were reportedly bare as residents scrambled for supplies, while people took to social media to complain about soaring prices for groceries.

Residents had already been told to avoid crowds and minimise public gatherings, and health authorities have reportedly made wearing a mask in public places mandatory.

State news agency Xinhua said tourist attractions and hotels had been told to suspend large-scale activities while libraries, museums and theatres were cancelling exhibitions and performances.

Workers make face masks in China

And the lockdown is spreading. Public television in Huanggang - east of Wuhan - has also announced a suspension of its bus and rail system from midnight, and encouraged people not to leave the city. Cafes and cinemas will also be shut.

On Thursday, China's National Health Commission released details of the 17 victims. The youngest victim was 48 and the oldest was 89. Most of them were elderly and suffered from other chronic diseases including Parkinson's disease and diabetes.

All the fatalities so far have been in Hubei province, of which Wuhan is the capital.

The virus is now spreading at an alarming rate. The hospitals have been flooding with thousands of patients, who wait hours to see a doctor - you can imagine their panic.

Normally Wuhan is a great place to live and we are proud of our work - specialists here have developed a guide for coronavirus diagnosis and treatment.

But I am scared because this is a new virus and the figures are worrying.

Two days ago we were told not to go to work because of the risk of contamination. If we leave our home on the hospital campus, we are required to wear masks.

We don't want to take our two-year-old son outside. He's sleeping now, and we are trying to protect him as much as possible - hand-washing, airing the apartment, avoiding contact with people.

Outside I can barely see anyone on the streets. We have been told to avoid gathering.

I went to the supermarket to buy food, but there was nothing left - no vegetables or biscuits. Some Lunar New Year celebrations are cancelled.

People had bought tickets to go home for Lunar New Year but they can't go now. Everyone is stuck here and can't leave.

What do we know about the virus?
Currently known as 2019-nCoV, the virus is understood to be a new strain of coronavirus not previously identified in humans. The Sars (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) virus that killed nearly 800 people globally in the early 2000s was also a coronavirus, as is the common cold.

This new virus originated in a seafood market in Wuhan that "conducted illegal transactions of wild animals", authorities have said. The market has been shut down since the beginning of the year.

Some researchers have suggested the illness may have originated in snakes. A study published on Wednesday in the Journal of Medical Virology said genetic analysis suggests snakes are "the most probable wildlife animal reservoir" for the virus but this would need to be confirmed by other studies. Other researchers have questioned the claim.

There is also evidence of human-to-human transmission with the virus having spread from patients to family members and healthcare workers.

But understanding more about how the virus transmits between people is one of the major outstanding questions in this outbreak.

The virus infects the lungs and symptoms start with a fever and cough. It can progress to shortness of breath and breathing difficulties.

Media captionThe BBC's online health editor talks us through what we know about the virus
After a day of discussions in Geneva on Wednesday, the World Health Organization's (WHO) emergency committee announced it would not yet declare a "global emergency" over the new virus.

Director General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus said more information was needed about the spread of the infection. The committee of health experts will meet again on Thursday.

A global emergency is the highest level of alarm the WHO can sound and has previously been used in response to swine flu, Zika virus and Ebola.

What's the picture globally?
There have been cases in several countries, including as far away as the United States.

Officials in Hong Kong reported the territory's first two cases on Wednesday and one case was reported in the nearby city of Macau.

The patient in Macau is said to be a businesswoman who arrived from Wuhan over the weekend.

The first US case was confirmed on Tuesday. President Donald Trump said the situation was "totally under control" and that he trusted the information being provided by Chinese authorities.

Map: Confirmed cases in China and around the world

There have been three cases in Thailand, one in Korea, one in Japan and one in Taiwan.

Although only about 500 cases have been confirmed globally , calculations by scientists at the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College London estimate there could be 4,000 people sick with the virus in Wuhan.

UPDATE: Report estimates 4000 cases #coronavirus #2019nCoV

Our estimate at 4,000 cases is more than double the past estimate due to increase of number of cases outside China. This should not be interpreted as implying the outbreak has doubled in size.

The Huanggang government announced that starting at midnight tonight (11am ET), no one in Huanggang will be allowed to leave the city without a special reason, all trains and buses will be shut down, and all public venues like theaters and Internet cafes will be closed. This comes just hours after the city of Wuhan also went under quarantine with a lockdown. (Wuhan is next to Huanggang.) China is trying to prevent the further spread of the Novel Coronavirus, which has infected over 600 people in China as well as people in several other countries.

In this interactive live stream, host Steve Lookner brings you the latest breaking news updates on the Hunaggang lockdown and the China virus, and he'll also read your comments and questions on the air!

China locks down 3 cities and suspends flights: The latest on the deadly Wuhan virus outbreak

Chinese government authorities on Thursday morning moved to shut off transportation in and out of Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak that has killed 17 people and infected hundreds. Authorities put two more cities, Huanggang and Ezhou, under a travel ban later on Thursday. The three cities have a combined population of almost 20 million.
The dramatic attempt to contain the virus comes as Beijing tries to shake criticism that its cover-up of the 2002-2003 spread of the deadly SARS virus increased its death toll.
On Thursday morning, Chinese officials stopped planes and trains scheduled to leave Wuhan, blocked highways, and suspended public buses, subways, and ferries within the city.

As the city came to a standstill, Wuhan residents rushed to supermarkets and pharmacies and queued up for petrol.
"Nobody was ready for the lockdown," one Wuhan resident told the South China Morning Post. "I went to the supermarket this morning, many people were there and vegetables were all sold out."
As China moved to contain the spreading coronavirus outbreak, the World Health Organization (WHO) held an Emergency Committee meeting on Wednesday to discuss the situation, but delayed a decision on whether to declare a global public health emergency due to the "evolving and complex" nature of the situation.
The international health group is set to meet again on Thursday to decide on a health emergency declaration.
The spreading virus
Wuhan, the provincial capital of landlocked Hubei, has a population of 11 million people—over two million more than New York City—and is one of China's most vital thoroughfares.
“This city happens to be a hub—a transportation hub and also a financial hub [...] It's the most important city in central China,” says Alfred Wu, an associate professor at the National University of Singapore who studies the political economy of Greater China.
Before the transportation lockdown, Wuhan's role as a hub helped the virus spread. As of Thursday, the virus had sickened nearly 600 people and killed 17, many of whom had pre-existing health conditions. Cases have been confirmed in some of China's biggest cities including the capital, Beijing, as well as Shenzhen, Hong Kong, and Macau.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on Tuesday confirmed the first case of the Wuhan coronavirus in the U.S., from a patient who had recently traveled to the Chinese city. A total of 16 people who came into contact with the infected man are under observation in the U.S., and the CDC is developing a test for the virus to distribute to state health departments.
Officials in Japan and South Korea have reported one case each, and four cases have been confirmed in Thailand. The U.S. case is the first confirmed report of the virus outside of Asia.
Hong Kong SARS memories
Officials confirmed the first case of the Wuhan virus in Hong Kong on Wednesday, and announced a second case soon after. The first patient arrived from mainland China by train on Tuesday evening with signs of fever and told authorities he had been to Wuhan.
Even before the Hong Kong government announced the first case, a majority of pedestrians and public transport passengers in the city were already donning green and blue medical masks—this time to protect against infection rather than as a political signifier.
And for the past few weeks, Hong Kong's subway stations have run loudspeaker announcements on loop, encouraging commuters to wash their hands with soap and wear masks if they have flu symptoms (cough, cold, fever, sore throat), and if they feel unwell, to alert station staff, who man “caring point” booths on some station platforms, wearing medical masks.
The 2002-2003 outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome, or SARS, remains vivid for many in Hong Kong. The city came to an effective standstill during the outbreak, which infected 1,755 and killed 299 in Hong Kong out of more than 800 fatalities worldwide.
Economic effects
The timing of the outbreak coincides with the start of China's Lunar New Year public holiday, when people are expected to take three billion trips across the country, sparking fears of the disease spreading further.
Canceled journeys and drops in spending could wound China's already-slowing economy: during last year's holiday period, people spent an estimated $74 billion on travel and $145 billion on shopping and food.
A virus outbreak would also likely batter Hong Kong's economy, which entered recession last year under strain from from months of anti-government protests that dented tourism and retail. The 2002 SARS outbreak pushed Hong Kong's economy into recession in the first half of 2003.
This week, Hong Kong's stock market recorded its worst day in more than five months amid mounting news of the coronavirus outbreak and a Moody's credit rating downgrade.
Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways, which just suspended flights to Wuhan, is letting employees wear surgical masks and will allow passengers to and from Wuhan to cancel or change their flights for free through March 31. Between Dec. 2002 and April 2003, shares in Cathay Pacific dropped almost 30% due to the SARS crisis.
Governments and companies across Asia are taking serious precaution in the wake of the current virus outbreak.
Airport authorities across the Middle East, in Australia, and in other countries have instituted virus screening measures for arrivals. North Korea put a temporary ban on foreign tourists, many of which visit from neighboring China.
Large companies with operations in China, including HSBC Holdings, Citic Securities, and Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings, restricted employee travel to Wuhan, and Singapore Airlines' budget carrier Scoot suspended daily flights to Wuhan on Thursday.

You need BOTH KINDS OF MASK (and eye goggles for people who are NOT SICK.)
N-95 MASKS (THAT LOOK LIKE A WHITE CUP) not the folded ones that looks like a doctor wears in surgery, WITH AN EXHALE VALVE on the front ONLY for people who are NOT SICK.
N-95 MASKS WITHOUT AN EXHALE VALVE FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE SICK

TIP- If you HAVE a C-PAP OR BI-PAP machine at home and are forced to treat your own family, the cpap or bipap could make their breathing easier if their lungs become infected. You might want to put ionic silver in the cpap machine water reservoir too.
Personally, I plan to breath ionic silver solution through a nebulizer, or my BI-PAP machine, several times a day if I contract corona virus.

China just quarantined 11 million people in Wuhan city. No one allowed to leave. Let that sink in for a moment. Imagine a major city with 11 million people in your country told not to leave or congregate. This really is 'disease x' a global pandemic.
