side note:
The Population Density of Wuhan is 3200/sq mile
While LA has half the population, the population density is 7,544/sq mile
(2020 World Population by Country)
Interesting; PD for Dallas (which feels DENSE to me), is somewhat more than Wuhan, at 4,081/sq mi. I used the same source listed here for figures. Downtown Dallas at night looks like something straight out of Blade Runner.

There is a video on the Earth Changes thread that says that Soros and Gates wargamed this thing out and even had the date of 2020 when the fun would start. They made a game out of it. To reduce the population. Seriously. These people are mad. Completely power mad insane.

Yes, they did...

oh, it is way too late for any wringing of hands over our de industrialization disaster. That ship sailed DECADES AGO, actually when I was in my teens, twenties and maybe even thirties. After all, it was Nixon's twin stabs in the back, delinking the Federal Reserve note to gold in July of 1971, and selling us out to China in 1972, both of which happened when I was 17 and 18 years old. Further, it was the Corporate Republicans who stabbed workers in the back. We had a chance, one final shot when Perot had his "great sucking sound," in the 1992 debate, but that chance went spinning off into space. Face it, the decisions our corporate whore masters, all of them made, WILL RESULT IN OUR DEATHS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
This is why I am saying that the best case is for the elite to end up in some kind of Nuremburg Warcrimes trial, and the worst is they end up hanging from a beam like Mussolini did. Either way, the rage people will feel towards the system once this all sorts out over the next five years or so will not be able to be controlled. The one percent should be in fear for their lives once the virus and its economic chaos start to kill people.

Cost of China’s anti-virus fight rises with workers idle

BEIJING (AP) — Real estate agent Du Xuekun’s sales usually jump after the Lunar New Year holiday. But this year, Du has been at home for a month with no income after vast swathes of China’s economy were shut down in a sweeping effort to contain a virus outbreak.
Du, who lives in Jiaozhuo, near the central city of Zhengzhou, is one of millions of people who are bearing the soaring cost of the most extreme anti-disease measures ever imposed. Some businesses are reopening, but Beijing has told the public to stay home if possible.
“People will buy food and clothes online but for sure won’t buy an apartment without seeing it,” said Du.
Industries from auto sales to travel to retailing effectively shut down after curbs were imposed starting Jan. 23 with the suspension of most access to Wuhan, an industrial metropolis of 11 million people at the center of the outbreak.
Travel restrictions expanded to cities with more than 60 million people, while curbs on business spread nationwide. The Lunar New Year holiday was extended to keep factories and offices closed. Nationwide, thousands of restaurants and cinemas have been shut to prevent crowds from gathering.
The rising losses threaten to become a political liability for the ruling Communist Party. Local officials have been ordered to revive business activity but are moving cautiously.
By Sunday, some 1,665 deaths and 68,500 cases had been reported in the two months since the first infections in December.
Economists warn optimism that the disease might be under control is premature. Even if auto manufacturing and other business resumes as planned, activity won’t be back to normal until at least mid-March.
Losses are expected to be so large that forecasters have cut estimates for China’s economic growth.
Forecasters including Capital Economics say growth, already at multi-decade lows, might fall to 2% in the three months ending in March, down from the previous quarter’s official figure of 6%.
“If the economy really gets into a tailspin, the challenge for the party will be substantially increased,” said Steve Tsang, director of the China Institute at London’s School of Oriental and African Studies.
Locking down Wuhan might have hurt more than it helped by causing panic and was “very damaging to the economy,” said Tsang.
“They will have to rethink the lockdown approach,” he said.
The ruling party has responded to the mounting economic pressure by promising tax breaks and subsidies to companies hurt by the anti-disease measures.
The government needs to “maintain stable economic operation and social harmony,” President Xi Jinping said Wednesday.
On Friday, the Ministry of Finance announced that companies with monthly sales below 100,000 yuan ($14,000) will be exempt from value-added and other taxes. It said companies that cannot repay loans might be allowed to invoke “force majeure,” a last-resort legal measure that can waive obligations in disasters.
Travel and hospitality were hardest-hit after the government canceled group tours and told businesspeople to put off travel. Airlines canceled thousands of flights and hotels closed.
The manager of a travel agency in Shenyang, the biggest city in China’s northeast, said its monthly revenue, usually 100,000 yuan ($14,000), fell to zero. He said the agency still is paying rent and wages of 20,000 yuan ($2,800) a month.
“We don’t expect to see a recovery until May or June,” said the manager, who would give only his surname, Xu. “We do hope the government can give us a tax exemption or reduction, but we still have seen no subsidies.”
Property sales have fallen to almost zero over the past three weeks. The industry employs millions of people and drives demand for appliances, furniture and other consumer goods.
Du, the real estate salesman, said he usually closes two sales a month and earns 7,000-8,000 yuan ($1,000-$1,100). He needs to make a 3,000-yuan ($430) monthly loan payment whether he works or not.
“I have no base salary and live on commission,” said Du, 27. “Without sales, there will be no income.”
Chinese leaders already were struggling to shore up economic growth that slowed to 6.1% last year thanks to weak consumer demand and a tariff war with Washington. Some economists, citing industry surveys and other data, say real growth already was much weaker than that.
The anti-disease measures closed factories that supply the world with smartphones, furniture, shoes, toys and household appliances. That sent shockwaves through other developing countries that supply industrial components and iron ore, copper and other commodities.
South Korea and other economies that rely on China as an export market face potential job losses.
E-commerce companies are hiring extra workers to cope with a flood of demand as families stay home and buy groceries online. But streets in Beijing and other major cities are still empty and eerily quiet.
Auto sales plunged 20.2% in January from a year earlier, deepening a 2-year-old decline in the industry’s biggest global market. Sales fell 9.6% last year to 21.4 million, well below their 2017 peak of 24.7 million.
That is squeezing global automakers that look to China to drive revenue as they spend billions of dollars to develop electric vehicles to meet government sales targets.
“Enterprises are under huge pressure,” said a statement by an industry group, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
China rebounded relatively quickly from its 2002-03 outbreak of SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, but economic conditions now are less rosy.
SARS struck when China was entering a history-making boom powered by construction and exports. Growth peaked at a blistering 14.2% in 2007. By contrast, the latest virus hit in the midst of a slowdown.
In smartphones, Apple, Huawei and other brands face a potential hit because China is both their No. 1 market and global production base.
Shipments might fall as much as 50% this quarter compared with the final three months of 2019, according to research firm Canalys.
There is a “high risk” that component suppliers, with factory workers still stranded in their hometowns by travel bans, “will not be able to ramp up to normal capacity if the outbreak is prolonged,” Canalys said in a report.
Apple and other global vendors face a “serious impact” if the virus spreads and those suppliers close, the report said.
“The current situation will likely lead to some of the worst ever shipment numbers,” it said.

Clinical characteristics of 2019 novel coronavirus infection in China
Abstract
Background: Since December 2019, acute respiratory disease (ARD) due to 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) emerged in Wuhan city and rapidly spread throughout China. We sought to delineate the clinical characteristics of these cases. Methods: We extracted the data on 1,099 patients with laboratory-confirmed 2019-nCoV ARD from 552 hospitals in 31 provinces/provincial municipalities through January 29th, 2020. Results: The median age was 47.0 years, and 41.90% were females. Only 1.18% of patients had a direct contact with wildlife, whereas 31.30% had been to Wuhan and 71.80% had contacted with people from Wuhan. Fever (87.9%) and cough (67.7%) were the most common symptoms. Diarrhea is uncommon. The median incubation period was 3.0 days (range, 0 to 24.0 days). On admission, ground-glass opacity was the typical radiological finding on chest computed tomography (50.00%). Significantly more severe cases were diagnosed by symptoms plus reverse-transcriptase polymerase-chain-reaction without abnormal radiological findings than non-severe cases (23.87% vs. 5.20%, P<0.001). Lymphopenia was observed in 82.1% of patients. 55 patients (5.00%) were admitted to intensive care unit and 15 (1.36%) succumbed. Severe pneumonia was independently associated with either the admission to intensive care unit, mechanical ventilation, or death in multivariate competing-risk model (sub-distribution hazards ratio, 9.80; 95% confidence interval, 4.06 to 23.67). Conclusions: The 2019-nCoV epidemic spreads rapidly by human-to-human transmission. Normal radiologic findings are present among some patients with 2019-nCoV infection. The disease severity (including oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, blood leukocyte/lymphocyte count and chest X-ray/CT manifestations) predict poor clinical outcomes.

I wouldn't trust a microwave. Microwaves heat by exciting molecules in the material, and different molecules heat differently. So you could have a N95 mask in there with the filter not heating at all, while the metal components are throwing sparks and the cloth bits are smoking.
Microwave ovens are tuned to the dipole moment of water. The microwaves are the correct frequency to heat the water molecule. So you shouldn't see as much heat absorbed by the materials of the mask.

This situation proves Trump was right and reinforces the idea that maintaining manufacturing industry is
a matter of "National Security". Not withstanding Joe Biden's recommendation that coal miners should learn to code, Coal Mines are also a matter of "National Security"

Being ex military and being blessed with an uncommon amount of good common sense, it is beyond me as to how or why we allowed the situation, which we will now have to consume like a $hit sandwich.

Remember Drill Here- Drill Now? That too was national security. Trump is right and I would like to see him canvas the country for People Who Know Stuff. People who can build and tinker and put the heart back into this land that I love.

Snatch up old people who know how to do a Main Frame Major on a big rig and give them gophers who are the young guys who want to learn. They do the heavy lifting and the old guys supply the brains and a lifetime of shortcuts. This is just one example. I know it works because my DH did it after the rust belt shut down. He rounded up a bunch of these old mechanics and put them to work with young guys to teach them the trade in a hands on that was nothing short of amazing. And fast once they got the hang of it.

Extrapolate that out to hundreds of jobs. And kick these damned commies and their invading army of refugees to the curb. That too is a national security issue. Trump could run on that alone and win. If he can bring back our manufacturing base that's really making America great again.

I was looking at the name, Covid-19, in an article that referenced the new name. And then it hit me in the gut with a sick feeling why the name- to distinguish it from Covid-20 (as in 2020), Covid-21, etc., like the Spanish flu coming in waves. This way they can distinguish between waves. I think it mutates too fast to have it named by the mutation / strain they're seeing. Also, if we have more than one wave a year, it can become Covid-20a, b, c.... Epiphanies aren't always positive.

Nope, but ya got th' right o' it... It is what it is... Scary, very scary...

Keep on' truckin' Pard...

Donald Trump has launched an extraordinary defence of China’s alleged attempts to cover-up the extent of the spread of coronavirus.

The US president, who has claimed without evidence the virus will likely “go away” by April, said Beijing has handled the epidemic “very professionally”, despite accusations the country had attempted to suppress information about the crisis.

Asked by conservative commentator Geraldo Rivera if China was telling the truth about coronavirus, Mr Trump said: “Well you never know. I think they want to put the best face on it, so you know I mean if somebody, if you were running it you’d probably, you wouldn’t want to run out to the world and go crazy and start saying whatever it is because you don’t want to create a panic.”

Two more cruise ships have had their journeys disrupted by the coronavirus outbreak after they were turned away by Vietnam over infection fears.
The AIDAvita and Norwegian Jade were sailing for the Thai port of Laem Chabang today after they were denied permission to dock in Vietnam.
The crew of the Jade reassured passengers that there were no cases of the virus on board, while Germany's AIDA Cruises has yet to comment.
The AIDAvita has docked in the Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore which have all reported cases of the virus, Vietnamese media said.

Yep, Trump has now staked his entire political fortune on the economy, which may also be about to implode once China goes down hard, which it is now doing. He is also staking his claim on this it will fade away in April meme, and if it doesn't, Trump is screwed.

Trump is basing all of this on no economic damage from the virus, and a medical situation where the virus just goes away all by itself. Rolling the dice for sure.

I was just coming to post a link to that interview. Geraldo Rivera interviewed Pres Trump on Feb 13th. I did a rough transcript of the part of the conversation about the coronavirus for anyone who can't listen, but I recommend listening along while you read so you can get the proper inflections, etc. For instance - when he says "and start saying whatever it is" - he's not implying he knows what it is - he's using that term to mean 'fill in the blank, whatever it is'. GERALDO: Are you worried that the boom, Mr. President, are you worried that the stock market and the big economic boom are in peril because of this coronavirus spreading epidemic, you know Chinese closing for business, they're not buying cars from Europe right now. Everything, everybodys in a panic, you got those poor people stranded on that curise ship in Japan. Are you worried about this virus effecting, I mean obviously you're worried about the virus and people getting sick, but what about the economy, you know, is another big problem.

POTUS: Well, we're working on it very closely. I spoke to President Xi two days ago. They are working on it very professionally. It's a problem. We think and we hope based on all signs that the problem goes away in April, which is not too far down the road, because heat kills this virus. We think, now we're going to find out Geraldo, but we think. And they are having difficutly in China but they're working very very hard. We're working with them, we're sending a lot of people, and CDC has been great. But it's a problem in China. It has not been spreading very much and in our country we only have basically 12 cases and most of those people are recovering and in some cases fully recovered, so it's actually less.

GERALDO: Did the Chinese tell the truth about this?

POTUS: Well you never know. And I think Pres Xi is extremely capable and I hope that it's going to be resolved. Again, the April date is very important. But you know, this is a big thing. The April date is very very important because if that's the case, if heat does in fact kill, that's when it starts getting hot, and this virus reacts very poorly to heat and dies. So we'll see what happens.

Amantidine isn't used for influenza any more. It is actually found a use in parkinsonism but there is no real understanding of its mechanism of action. Rimantadine is used, but again, we don't know why is works so it would be hard to guess if it would have any effect at all on Covid. Relenza is a neuramidase inhibitor and so would probably be about as effective on Covid as Tamiflu. None of them will probably do much to this bug.

Don't think it's mindless support. He's a negotiator, and he needs to help China. If Trump castigates China publicly, China can stop all shipments of meds/equipment, and possibly contribute to a change of government that could be catastrophic. Trump is keeping his enemy close.

One point if I may to illustrate the problem with reusing/cleaning/trying to recondition masks.

Used masks and used condoms both have protected their users from potentially deadly disease.

You could clean and reuse them. But would you?
