Has No Life - Lives on TB
Sadly, there is yet another issue in the US though this time I honestly don't know if it is a factor in this case or not.

The issue is: MONEY

Who pays for the tests? Who pays for the Testing? Who pays the process the Tests? Who pays the doctors/nurses/labs to take and diagnose the tests?

You would think that wouldn't be a problem but having worked for both US State and The Federal Civil Service I rather suspect that it is.

The US, unlike the UK, has no basic Federal Health System and the old County/State Public Health systems set up in the wake of the 1918 flu (and later Polio, measles, etc) are now faint shadows of what they once were, often barely funded or functioning.

All of the "who pays for it" has to be worked out and quickly, otherwise, things just tend to sit there or "hurry up and wait."

I also suspect this is one reason the military support is being called on rather early, and as I mentioned may hundreds of pages ago on this thread, I already say the "money" issue Red Flashing Warning Sign with the quarantine arrangements.

The ones where they kept over-stating "the military bases will provide nothing to the evacuees except a place to stay, HHS will provide everything else."

I used to work in the HHS, it tends to be one of the most under-funded of the Federal Agencies and when I worked there it was common for us peons to buy our own pens and pencils because there was never enough money buy them or get the purchase approval from "H.Q."

I hope that's changed, but I haven't seen many signs that it has; Public Health is something that tends to be on the back burner until suddenly it isn't, but that's when everyone discovers how many funds have been diverted away to "more important" projects.

Again, I really really hope I'm wrong and that things have changed.
Indeed, this onrushing macro event is going to shine a spotlight upon a number of hidden things and issues.

In all fairness I do
Didn't see this posted before, but I may have missed it. This is counter to what Senator Cotton believes.

An important new study of genomics of SARS-Cov-2 (virus that causes #COVID19)... notably the authors point out “strong evidence” that the virus “is not the product of genetic engineering”. (Special thanks to @pathogenomenick for vetting study is legit) http://virological.org/t/the-proximal
In fairness I believe he has asked for an accounting of the source and asked for information confirming the source. There is a level 4 bio ‘research’ facility in Wuhan and China has a proven history of initially lying about previous leaks from other labs. There is some information that seems to disprove a normal wild animal bat transmission from the wet market.
I see no indication that China has been forthcoming about anything relating to Coronavirus and since this has now impacted other countries withholding information is putting other peoples (read this as you and I) at risk as western Dr’s stumble around reinventing the medical wheel.

Los Alamos Experts Warn Covid-19 "Almost Certainly Cannot Be Contained", Project Up To 4.4 Million Dead
Los Alamos did modeling on the Avian flu in 2009. They were frighteningly accurate. So if Los Alamos says it can't be contained I tend to believe their models. Yikes!

Don't worry, what don't kill you makes you stronger to paraphrase Nietzsche. Looks like your going to get infected and then you will survive or not.
That reminded me of the Pilgrim story about Squanto, who was kidnaped and taken from his homeland in America and taken to Europe. When he finally was returned to America, his people had apparently been infected by European fishermen and had perished. He was gone long enough so that all the germs had perished also by the time he returned.

Be interesting to see what effect it has on those that vape instead of smoke.

Sure glad I gave up smoking a long time ago.

Speaking of which aren't many of the E cigarettes and vaping fluids made in China.
Egads with all the non Corona respiratory issue’s that seem to be vape driven, throw in a wild card like severe respiratory flu and all the cool cats vaping may be asking for a do over if this takes off in the west.

Also vaping was very trendy in China, it could be vaping, cigs or either that means the difference between bad flu and hospital or worse with no other risk factors.

CDC. Said that when they see 4th generation here they'll have to say it's beyond controlling in the USA
This isn't Ro = 4 - this is one person passing to another, and that person passes to another, and that person passes to another. 4 generations. Not Ro.

So we have two verified studies saying the exact opposite of each other...... figures....

Yes, if I remember correctly the technique you mention was used on the senate office buildings that got hit with anthrax after 9/11. They used hydrogen peroxide vapors pumped through the building. The testing was done on recently retired C-141 starlifter transport planes shortly before 9/11. Here is a link to the test program.

(PDF) Vaporous Hydrogen Peroxide (VHP) Decontamination of a C-141B Starlifter Aircraft: Validation of VHP and Modified VHP (mVHP) Fumigation Decontamination Process via VHP-Sensor, Biological Indicator, and HD Simulant in a Large-Scale Environment
I don't know if I would trust it if they did it on planes.....

They can and they do... Same way our intelligence agencies do it here.

They don't monitor every single person, they have computer scans for trigger words... Enough of the right verbiage in a conversation will merit a real person looking into what you are talking about and to whom you are sharing the info.
Saw video of Brit who referenced a man in quarantine in I think Beijing getting house crazy 2 days short of 14 walking to a park and within 10 minutes getting a call from employer and gubmint telling him to go back home or else. He was picked up by facial recognition camera’s. In China big brother is watching and tracking likely everyone’s position by phone.

And one of the things that the Demo will spotlight is Trumps 2021 budget that cuts the very agencies that should be working on this.
Trump doesn't write the budget. The house does. Presidents simply give a plan of what they want and Congress promptly ignores it.

This article is a preprint and has not been peer-reviewed [what does this mean?]. It reports new medical research that has yet to be evaluated and so should not be used to guide clinical practice.

Abstract
The novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a recently emerged human pathogen that has spread widely since January 2020. Initially, the basic reproductive number, R0, was estimated to be 2.2 to 2.7. Here we provide a new estimate of this quantity. We collected extensive individual case reports and estimated key epidemiology parameters, including the incubation period. Integrating these estimates and high-resolution real-time human travel and infection data with mathematical models, we estimated that the number of infected individuals during early epidemic double every 2.4 days, and the R0 value is likely to be between 4.7 and 6.6. We further show that quarantine and contact tracing of symptomatic individuals alone may not be effective and early, strong control measures are needed to stop transmission of the virus.

Has No Life - Lives on TB
Some longtime prepping friends, that we'd bounced crisis/disaster scenarios off each other over the years,
have been sending me rather lengthy theories or videos of the possible, worst-case nefarious, origins of this
CoronaVirus. They want to debate the merits of them, but to all I'm pretty much responding the same for now...

I read it cause you’d asked, otherwise I wouldn’t have. I think it likely BS,
but I’ve been purposely avoiding reading/studying/debating theories of the
origin of this CoronaVirus, at this time. It’s low on my priorities of where to
expend my limited time & energy, right now.

I look at this current virus crisis like a forest fire raging towards my family.
I’m busy getting out of the way of it, and prepping to hunker down if I can’t.
Later, if we survived it, when I have more time, I’ll be more inclined to study
different theories of origin, whether it was natural occurrence (lightning strike)
or man-made, and whether then on purpose unleashed (fire bug) or accident.

Make sense?

Panic Early, Beat the Rush!

What you described is an R/0 of 1.

Yes, but that's not what my initial post is about - I wrote about 'four generations'.
Chance said:
"CDC. Said that when they see 4th generation here they'll have to say it's beyond controlling in the USA"

If the United States begins to see instances in several parts of the country in which a single case ignites four “generations” of human-to-human infection, Redfield said — meaning a person who contracted the virus infects a person, who infects another person, who then infects another person — then the CDC is likely to conclude containment of the virus has failed.

They also have horrendous air pollution. I wonder if populations like LA with its smog or rural areas that have been plagued with almost annual wildfire and lots of smoke will be hit disproportionately hard on the individual respiratory level.

I need an emoji that expresses thinking, like hmm this is food for thought.
