Sorry, you need way more than 50 posts before you can talk to Summerthyme that way. Newbies ... sheesh.

I have been on here long enough to observe Summerthyme as a very approachable and levelheaded.
She does not have her nose in the air thinking she is better than everybody else due to time here.

Kind of a crappy thing to write bw.... eh? Newbies have a right to express their thoughts as does everyone. I want to read everyone thoughts.
C'mon bw, climb down from the high horse.

I think tonight potus goes either two ways with his press conference

He still insists we are in good hands and no big deal... or he announces he has new information and tells us to expect things to be shutdown.

Right now, Rush is still insisting this is all a big play bybthe media and the left to panic people and blame the president.
Rush is usually "on message" so I would expect more of whatever he says from DJT

And they wake up and 200 million families trot down to the local grocery and stock up to cover six weeks isolation. You see a problem there? Maybe creeping into it is the best we can do.

This virus doesn't creep though, but we as a country have sure been "creeping into it" seems to me.
I'd rather them so shopping now, than knock on my door later.

Not too worried about those who don't know me, so I'm not waking them up anyways.
Ya'll know people that need woke, so they don't knock on your doors ya? Some of you got kids need woke, you ain't gonna choot them if they come a knocking. Maybe 1st cousins, maybe other family/friends you wouldn't be able to turn away...get them shopping any way you can now, tell them their testicles will explode

Adding to the "other sources for Vitamin C" list. If you have wheat in your storage, you can grow your own wheatgrass -

7 Evidence-Based Benefits of Wheatgrass

Popping up everywhere from juice bars to health food stores, wheatgrass is the latest ingredient to enter the limelight in the world of natural health.
Wheatgrass is prepared from the freshly sprouted leaves of the common wheat plant, Triticum aestivum.
It can be grown and prepared at home or purchased in juice, powder or supplement form.
Some claim it can do everything from detoxifying the liver to improving immune function. However, many of its purported benefits have not yet been proven or studied.
This article takes a closer look at 7 of the evidence-based benefits of drinking wheatgrass.
1. High in Nutrients and Antioxidants

Wheatgrass Shot
Wheatgrass is an excellent source of many different vitamins and minerals. It is especially high in vitamins A, C and E, as well as iron, magnesium, calcium and amino acids.
Of its 17 amino acids, eight are considered essential, meaning your body cannot produce them and you must obtain them from food sources (1Trusted Source).
Like all green plants, wheatgrass also consists of chlorophyll, a type of green plant pigment associated with many health benefits (2Trusted Source).
It also contains several important antioxidants, including glutathione and vitamins C and E (3Trusted Source).
Antioxidants are compounds that fight free radicals to prevent cell damage and reduce oxidative stress.
Some studies have found that antioxidants may help protect against certain conditions, such as heart disease, cancer, arthritis and neurodegenerative diseases (4Trusted Source).
In one study, wheatgrass decreased oxidative stress and improved cholesterol levels in rabbits fed a high-fat diet.
Additionally, supplementing with wheatgrass increased levels of the antioxidants glutathione and vitamin C (5Trusted Source).
Another test-tube study that evaluated the antioxidant activity of wheatgrass found it reduced oxidative damage to cells (6Trusted Source).
Given that the research on wheatgrass is limited to test-tube and animal studies, more studies are needed to determine how its antioxidants may affect humans.
SUMMARYWheatgrass is high in chlorophyll and many vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Test-tube and animal studies have found that its antioxidant content may prevent oxidative stress and cell damage.

2. May Reduce Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a waxy substance found throughout the body. While you need some cholesterol to make hormones and produce bile, too much cholesterol in your blood can block blood flow and increase your risk of heart disease.
Several animal studies have found that wheatgrass may help lower cholesterol levels.
In one study, rats with high cholesterol were given wheatgrass juice. They experienced decreased levels of total cholesterol, “bad” LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
Interestingly, the effects of wheatgrass were similar to those of atorvastatin, a prescription drug commonly used to treat high blood cholesterol (7Trusted Source).
Another study looked at its effects in rabbits fed a high-fat diet. After 10 weeks, supplementing with wheatgrass helped lower total cholesterol and increase “good” HDL cholesterol, compared to a control group (5Trusted Source).
Despite these promising results, further studies are needed to determine how wheatgrass supplements may affect cholesterol levels in humans.
SUMMARYSome animal studies have found that wheatgrass may help lower blood cholesterol levels, but human studies are needed.

3. Could Help Kill Cancer Cells

Thanks to its high antioxidant content, some test-tube studies have found that wheatgrass may help kill cancer cells.
According to one test-tube study, wheatgrass extract decreased the spread of mouth cancer cells by 41% (8Trusted Source).
In another test-tube study, wheatgrass induced cell death and reduced the number of leukemia cells by up to 65% within three days of treatment (9Trusted Source).
Some research indicates that wheatgrass juice may also help, when combined with traditional cancer treatment, minimize adverse effects.
One study found that wheatgrass juice decreased the risk of impaired bone marrow function, a common complication of chemotherapy, in 60 people with breast cancer (10Trusted Source).
However, there is still no evidence on the potential anti-cancer effects of wheatgrass in humans. More studies are needed to understand how it may impact cancer development in people.
SUMMARYTest-tube studies show that wheatgrass may help kill cancer cells and reduce cancer development. Also, one human study found that it may reduce complications of chemotherapy.

4. May Aid in Blood Sugar Regulation

High blood sugar can cause a wide array of symptoms, including headaches, thirst, frequent urination and fatigue.
Over time, high blood sugar can have serious consequences like nerve damage, skin infections and vision problems.
Some animal studies have found that wheatgrass may help keep blood sugar levels under control.
In one study, giving wheatgrass to diabetic rats modified levels of certain enzymes that help lower blood sugar levels (11Trusted Source).
Another study found that treating diabetic rats with wheatgrass extract for 30 days resulted in significantly decreased blood sugar levels (12Trusted Source).
Research on wheatgrass’ effects on blood sugar is limited to animals. More studies are needed to understand how it may affect blood sugar in humans.
SUMMARYSome animal studies have found that wheatgrass may help decrease blood sugar levels, though more human studies are needed.

5. May Alleviate Inflammation

Inflammation is a normal response triggered by the immune system to protect the body against injury and infection.
However, chronic inflammation is believed to contribute to conditions like cancer, heart disease and autoimmune disorders (13Trusted Source).
Some research shows that wheatgrass and its components may help reduce inflammation.
One small study in 23 people looked at the effects of wheatgrass juice on ulcerative colitis, a disease characterized by inflammation in the large intestine.
Drinking just under 1/2 cup (100 ml) of wheatgrass juice for one month reduced disease severity and rectal bleeding in patients with ulcerative colitis (14Trusted Source).
Wheatgrass is also rich in chlorophyll, a plant pigment with powerful anti-inflammatory properties. One test-tube study showed that chlorophyll inhibited the activity of a specific protein that triggers inflammation (15Trusted Source).
Furthermore, another test-tube study found that the compounds in chlorophyll reduced inflammation in cells extracted from the arteries (16Trusted Source).
Most research is focused on certain compounds in wheatgrass or the effects of wheatgrass on a particular condition. More studies are needed to measure its potential anti-inflammatory effects on the general population.
SUMMARYOne study found that wheatgrass may help treat ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, test-tube studies have found that chlorophyll, a compound found in wheatgrass, may also decrease inflammation.

6. Could Help Promote Weight Loss

Many people have started adding wheatgrass juice to their diet as a quick and convenient way to boost weight loss.
Wheatgrass contains thylakoids, which are tiny compartments found in plants that contain chlorophyll and absorb sunlight for photosynthesis.
While there is no evidence that wheatgrass itself could increase weight loss, several studies have found that supplementing with thylakoids could enhance satiety and increase weight loss.
In one small study, supplementing a high-carb meal with thylakoids intensified feelings of satiety, compared to a placebo (17Trusted Source).
Similarly, a study in rats showed that supplementing with thylakoids increased satiety by slowing down the emptying of the stomach and increasing the release of hormones that decrease hunger (18Trusted Source).
Another study found that giving thylakoids to rats on a high-fat diet resulted in decreased food intake and body weight, compared to a control group (19Trusted Source).
However, keep in mind that thylakoids can also be found in many other food sources, including green vegetables and leafy greens like spinach, kale and lettuce.
What’s more, these studies used concentrations of thylakoids that were much greater than the concentrations typically found in wheatgrass.
There is also no research on the effects of wheatgrass on weight loss specifically. Further studies are needed to look at its effects on weight loss in humans.
SUMMARYHuman and animal studies have found that the thylakoids in wheatgrass and other green vegetables may increase satiety and weight loss.
7. Easy to Add to Your Diet

Wheatgrass is widely available in powder, juice and capsule form and can easily be found at health food shops and specialty grocery stores.
Furthermore, if you are able to grow wheatgrass at home, you can use a juicer to make your own wheatgrass juice.
Besides drinking wheatgrass juice, you can use the juice or powder to boost the nutritional content of your favorite green smoothies.
You can also mix wheatgrass juice into salad dressings, teas or other beverages.
SUMMARYWheatgrass is available as a juice, powder or supplement and can be consumed in a variety of ways. It’s quite easy to add to your diet.
Precautions and Side Effects

Wheatgrass is generally considered safe for those with celiac disease or a sensitivity to gluten. This is because only the seeds of the wheat kernel contain gluten — not the grass.
However, if you do have a sensitivity to gluten, it’s best to consult your doctor before consuming wheatgrass or stick to products that are certified gluten-free.
Wheatgrass is also very susceptible to mold if you’re growing it at home. If it has a bitter taste or shows signs of spoilage, err on the side of caution and discard it.
Finally, some people report symptoms like nausea, headaches or diarrhea after consuming wheatgrass in juice or supplement form. If you experience these or any other adverse effects, it’s best to decrease your intake.
If negative symptoms persist, consider talking to a healthcare practitioner or eliminating wheatgrass from your diet altogether.
SUMMARYWheatgrass is considered gluten-free, but special precautions should be taken if you have a gluten sensitivity. It’s also susceptible to mold growth and may cause negative symptoms in some people.
The Bottom Line

Wheatgrass and its components have been associated with many health benefits, including weight loss, decreased inflammation, lower cholesterol and better blood sugar control.
However, research on its effects in humans is lacking, and many studies are focused solely on its specific compounds.
Although more studies are needed to confirm the benefits of wheatgrass, drinking it as part of a well-balanced diet could help provide some extra nutrients and several health benefits.

Chelsea Clinton Rips Trump On Coronavirus

February 26, 2020

by Toni Williams in politics 2 Comments

Chelsea Clinton, spawn of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, has an op-ed on CNN.com ripping President Donald Trump on his handling of the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Clinton and her co-author Devi Sridhar argue that because Trump eliminated the position of Global Health Czar and proposed cuts to global health funding, we are, here in the United States, less safe. Let’s talk about this.

Miss Chelsea celebrates her 40th birthday this month, and she has the most impressive resume that I have ever read. Like, when does she sleep, impressive. You can read her biography from the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, where she is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Health Policy and Management. I didn’t know what an Adjunct ASSISTANT Professor was, so I Googled it. You can read the description here. It sounds like just a way to have an celebrity name on your faculty directory.

Really, when does she sleep? She has written 5 children’s books, co-authored a scholarly book on public health, has four degrees, sits on the boards of beaucoup organizations, is married and has three children. That doesn’t even begin to touch her work on a documentary, her three years at NBC, or her work for McKinsey, or her aborted run for political office, which I wrote about and you can read here. I realize that I am an evil troll, but I don’t buy the Clinton resume. I never have. Her resume, like her position as an Adjunct Assistant Professor, is all celebrity gets and gimmes.

The co-author for the CNN piece, Devi Sridhar, has a more focused and believable resume. Forgive my cynicism, but I think that any true research in their co-authored book, “Governing Global Health” was done by Miss Sridhar.

Here is Chelsea Clinton explaining why we may not live in the best of times:

RT 2:16

Hmmm, now or the thirteenth century? I’ll take now.

You can read the full CNN.com piece, “Under Trump, America is less prepared for a coronavirus outbreak”, but it really sounds like she is really just mad that Trump beat her mother like a rented mule in 2016. Why do I say this? From the article:
Unfortunately, President Donald Trump has taken actions that many doctors and experts agree will leave the US less prepared to respond to COVID-19. He has eliminated the position of Global Health Czar and has repeatedly proposed cuts important to global health funding — thankfully that have failed to pass in Congress.

That first Global Health Czar that Obama appointed was during the Ebola virus outbreak. Obama appointed Ron Klain, a political hack and lawyer.

Here is more derision towards Trump from the Chelsea Clinton article:
Two aspects in particular worry us about the White House’s response, or lack thereof. We have a President uninterested in global health concerns, broadly disdainful of experts and recently obsessed with and distracted by his impeachment.

Trump is not “broadly disdainful” of any experts, maybe just the ones that you prefer, Chelsea. And, nice burn on the impeachment, there. But, there is more:
The Trump administration is chronically inept at, and seemingly uninterested in, any type of long-term planning, given the numerous positions in government that remain vacant as well as the constant rotation of key cabinet positions and the ad hoc decisions made on the basis of a conversation or Fox News clip.
Well, unlike your mother and her need for a large staff or Queen’s court, maybe President Trump likes to run a “lean” business model. I am surprised that in all your business dealings you have never run across this concept. And, here is one more dagger from Chelsea to Trump:
To put it simply, the Trump administration, by seeking to cut funding and rejecting proven solutions, is not sufficiently prepared to face a major threat like the novel coronavirus outbreak. As the American people face what the World Health Organization has deemed a public health emergency, we need a strong leader who understands the importance of good governance, expertise and diverse perspectives in bringing outbreaks under control.

Forgive me, Chutney, I mean, Chelsea, if I have less than zero confidence in the World Health Organization. The Director of the World Health Organization is Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus of Ethiopia. Tedros appointed late Zimbabwean Dictator Robert Mugabe to the post of Goodwill Ambassador. You want me to trust The World Health Organization over Donald Trump? Hard pass.

Go home and take care of your husband, babies and ill, elderly parents, Chelsea, before you lecture anyone about global health. And, to be perfectly honest, I am more worried about the being spread by liberal city policies than I am about Covid-19.

And, last thing. CNN, wasn’t there any other person other than a Clinton you could have gotten to write this hit piece?

I've no doubt that the MSM and leftists will blame the President for anything they can, even if it's made up by the voices in their heads.

Any way he plays it, they will announce in feign righteous anger that somehow, he didn't do it right and they woulda done it better.

Hell, if President DJT pulled a drowning baby from a pond and saved it's life by giving mouth to mouth resuscitation, they would claim that he was pedophile for kissing the kid.

So - Houston, TX area schools are having coronavirus planning meetings this week. I don't know how many districts, just a certain one that I won't divulge. One of the people on one of the planning boards told a relative of mine they are planning for "what happens if..." type of things - quarantine etc. and that my relative should start buying stuff, etc. My relative said "oh yeah (Slydersan) told us to start preparing over a month ago." LOL At least some of my relatives listen.

I got an email from Rockler.com - a woodworking type company. They have multiple types of masks for sale still. Sorry no N-95s that I could find. But they have the P-100 respirator ones in stock. Not cheap, but if you still need some here is a link. Their website seemed pretty good about warning what was out of stock, backordered, in stock, etc.

**I have no monetary interest in this company nor the products they sell. As far as I know they don't sell precious metals - only precious products from trees. And I don't sell precious metals. Silly rabbit they are for buying not for selling. Hopefully this disclaimer will suffice to the "You're trying to sell me something!!! police."

Have you raised rabbits off "what grows in the yard"? It's not that easy, I raised rabbits for a long time and supplemented their feed, but they never truly got off pellet feed. I even broke up cattle salt blocks and did a whole big thing trying to get them off pellets, I did greatly slow down the pellet consumption though, and that was good enough for me, going off pellets did make their growth a bit slower and did affect the quality I was after..my goal was to replace chicken so I was seeking tender meat, pellets did that. less pellets = less tender
Entirely? No. I'm lazy, and pellets are easy.

I've fed them every summer for years with mullberry tree clippings, apple tree pruneings, bamboo stalks, and elm tree shoots that grow up all over the fence perimeter. Plus, they get pulled weeds, heaps of grass from the mower, and sunflower stalks that grow to twelve feet, and volunteer all over the yard. Nothing magic about pellets - mostly compressed hay and cheap feed dust additives. I have a big stack of alfalfa hay, but mine prefer fresh stuff over dried.

I can cut though meat in smaller pieces - not a survival issue.

Adgal,
Have you tried growing wheatgrass from your stored wheat? I haven't been able to get 30-year-old wheat (commercially packaged in buckets with a nitrogen flush and kept cool) to sprout. My newer stuff packed with O2 absorbers doesn't do well, either. But the stuff I packed in buckets without O2 absorbers sprouts much better. Anyway, just wondering if you'd had success with older wheat packaged with nitrogen or oxygen.

Lately, I've offended everyone I know. T
For all those who are saying "everyone is welcome," or just please bring some canned goods with you - these folks (parasites) won't get any nicer to be around in a prolonged crisis. If you let them in, and lock down happens, you are STUCK with them for an indefinite period...two weeks, two months, who knows.

Think about that.
No point in setting yourself up for eventually going postal.

No good deed goes unpunished. Our gates are always locked. The doors are locked. Our big dogs don't like strangers, and we screen all phone calls. Hate to sound like a bitch, but it's long past time to be nice.

ough!
Expedia has just announced a 3k layoff, but they are saying it is not Corona virus related.... just on the Clark Howard show.

I just want to thank everybody on here. If it were not for you guys I wouldn't know half as much.

If only 2% of cases lead to death,
And 2% of 100 million is 2 million
And the number of hospital beds in the US is less than 1 million
And the typical hospital stay for coronavirus is 2 weeks
then How many crematoriums do we have?
I hear that they are manufacturing a butt load of these in China right now so maybe something new we can import.

America - "We would like to order a butt load of portable crematoriums please"
China - "Today's special is perfect for you, we give free Corona virus with every butt load order of portable crematoriums"

You call this thread panicked . I have seen most people reaction as informed reaction.. This is not a normal situation This is a Pandemic. We have to start preparing as a Nation for that. Normal biases.... will get you nowhere... Tomorrow is not going to be like it was yesterday...
As I am now saying...
Tomorrow will probably look like yesterday...
Next week might resemble last week...
Next month will definitely not be anything like last month...

So far with all the information that can be verified, we're still not running around hair on fire time here. We've always kept appropriate supplies for all of the risks we monitor, including epidemics. We also follow the normal prepper planning for food with the appropriate rotations we started way back before Y2K.

Although we've monitored the new Chinese Virus since early January, we've been more concerned with the flu in our AO so far.

We monitor the flu season every year using the CDC site and always use the same precautions starting in the fall every year (good hygiene, make sure we get our flu shots, up dosages of appropriate vitamins, etc.).

So far this year's flu is at the high end of the norm-

CDC current flu numbers

CDC Weekly Map Flu

16,000 to 41,000 people have died from the flu this year in the USA.

On average more than 200,000 people are hospitalized each year in the United States for the flu illness and its complications and between 3,000 and 49,000 people die each year from the flu. So this year's figures are significantly up from the average.

My PA-Hospitalist daughter says still seeing a lot of the flu (A & B strains) in the clinic/hospital she works at and that it is still running strong in the area. Still having hospilizations and some deaths.

So far they haven't had a single COVID-19 case.

The clinic/hospital has been monitoring for it since late December/early January and have had a few suspected cases, but after the tests came back from CDC, they weren't the real thing. So far not a single verified case.

As far as the 2019 Chinese Coronavirus, we've been monitoring it on several sites.

… and of course monitor our normal forums and research sites that focus on preparing

We did add some additional masks, OTC's, and other such to our existing supplies early on but nothing out of the normal.

We went over the plans we had for epidemics to verify they were still applicable, walked through the plan with our grown children and did supply them with additional masks, air-tite goggles, ponchos and OTC's that were appropriate for them and their children (in addition to the existing stores we've given them and maintain for them).

I did buy some additional rose hip tea and essential oils as a just in case as well.

I did go overboard on adding to the toilet paper supplies, but I have a very good excuse - I grew up using newspaper and the sears catalog in my grandparents outhouse to many times when we couldn't afford TP. My wife says I look for any excuse to add to my supply and its an addiction for me.

The one thing that has continued to flash red for me is the economic impact of the Chinese situation. There is very little in our economy in the States that won't be directly affected by what happens there.

So far the data on its affects to China's economy haven't been real clear, but the impact is surly much more than the Chinese and American Press are letting to be known.

I learned a good lesson as a child from my parents and grand parents - Panic Kills!

… so using my usual procedure when the media or some posters post starts pushing my panic button I take a deep breath, research it on my own looking for confirmation and if necessary THEN change my planning to the new risk.

I hear that they are manufacturing a butt load of these in China right now so maybe something new we can import.

America - "We would like to order a butt load of portable crematoriums please"
China - "Today's special is perfect for you, we give free Corona virus with every butt load order of portable crematoriums"
What comes with an order of butt load and a leg order??

Hey you got to look for the deals!!!

In the concentration camps, when crematoria were hopelessly overloaded, they'd make a grid of railroad tracks above the ground, stack bodies on them, and light a fire beneath. People are inventive, if you find that reassuring.
Think of the day after the last battle on GOT...

I think tonight potus goes either two ways with his press conference

He still insists we are in good hands and no big deal... or he announces he has new information and tells us to expect things to be shutdown.

Right now, Rush is still insisting this is all a big play bybthe media and the left to panic people and blame the president.

Yep, I think it'll either be one of those ways or something in the middle...…..

It takes a little time for people to accept and adjust to major changes. I am looking to the public action and reaction this weekend to gauge my future expectations. Many get paid this Friday, either normally or because Sunday is the 1st so many that want to prepare will be able to then. Other people usually put things off until the weekend. What Trump says at 6PM will have some effect on this.

If it is a relatively calm weekend, we may have more time of normalcy before whatever really stirs public sentiment occurs. If the weekend is quite hectic, well panic feeds on itself and I, for one, will try to avoid getting caught up in the mess. By Monday we should have pretty good guesses at what is coming down the line. This thread has been up for more than 40 days so maybe the future will become clearer now.
