Depression recipe from Le Port Indiana 1930's

Blue Boy Bait

2 c. flour
1 & 1/2 c sugar
3/4 c shortening
2 eggs- separated
1 c milk
1 teasp. vanilla
1 pint blueberries or 1 can blue berries drained
Blend flour, suagr & shortening withpastry cutter til resembles corse meal. Remove 1 cup for topping, set aside.
to remaining add egg yolks, milk, & vanilla blend till smooth. Beat egg whites til stiff, then gently fold into mixture. Pour in to a greased 9by 13 pan. Place berries on top of batter & the reserved crmb mixture.
Bake 350 deg. 40 min.

Hey this is really goodl. It was a little sweet for my taste so the next time I make it I am going to cut down on the sugar, add a little salt and maybe a little lemon extract. I just can't help messing with reciepes!

I thank you so much for the recipe,I lived in now called Laporte Indiana for the first 21 years of my life.A great friend brought this to our house when my older brother had passed away and have never been able to figure out the recipe.It is great!!!
