Farm A most graceful moment

One of my sheep looked like he had an issue with one of his eyes yesterday. When my son got home from work, we went out to round him up and give it a look and put some meds in.

Now, this sheep is a particularly large fellow. He runs about 250lbs. Normally, he's very quiet and will let you do whatever you want to on him. For some reason, last night, he was wound up and being pretty whippy.

He was not at all willing to let me walk up to him and see his eye. So I made the decision to get the leg catch hook out and snag him from the backside. My son and I have done this catch method many times. I grab the leg, son moves in and grabs the head.

So, I got the leg, son was moving in, and big sheep boy decided to launch himself forward and sideways, and head down the small hill in the corral. And he was taking me with him. I realized he was getting faster than I was, so I let go of the leg hook.

However....the leg hook did not let go of me. The handle on my end got snagged in my glove. Big sheep boy was now moving at about the speed of light, son is trying to catch up to him, and I am contemplating my face hitting the ground and just how bad it's going to hurt when I land.

My glove finally ripped up the side, releasing the hook and big sheep boy, and allowing me to head face first into the ground. Somehow at the last second, I managed to twist enough to not land flat on my face but on my left hand, elbow, shoulder and then the rest of me, rolling over onto my back, where I came to rest against the water tank.

My son said it was a spectacular flight on my part. Course it did scare the crap out of him that I was all busted up.

I just kind of laid there for a few mins, trying to see if I broke anything important. Luckily there was quite a bit of hay on the ground to cushion the landing that I did not stick. Managed to get my butt off the ground and pulled my wedding ring off as I could already feel my fingers swelling. Glad I did so, cus my finger is several times larger than normal now. Got some nice bruising on my wrist, elbow and shoulder, but my hand did take the brunt of my flip, flop and fly. The pic does not do justice to the pretty shades of yellow and purple that it now is.

Oh, and yes, I did get the sheep caught and doctored his eye, which today looks so much better.

Ouch!! Well, Grace must be your middle name too. I carry it everywhere I go (almost). Terrible curse.

Thank goodness that glove ripped!! Hope your hand heals quickly.

you were fortunate not to have been more severely injured. I've begun to notice that I'm not at all what I was even 2 years ago. unhappily, I'm now hiring a lot more done around here than I ever thought I would.

While I don’t bounce like I use too, I do have quite a bit of fluffy padding!!! LMAO!!!

So glad it wasn't worse! Get the arnica gel or cream out and start slathering it on! Ice for another 24 hours, then start warm soaks.

Everything happens so fast with animals!
