Spring and waking up from hibernation is the bear's desperate starvation time. That is of course, until the fawns start hitting the ground. Then the dinner bell has been rung.Black bears are suddenly showing up in yards all over the area here. One showed up at local veterinarian's place yesterday. Makes me wonder if they cannot find food.
We used to cook bacon in the stand at a actual bear bait to draw them in. Nothing illegal about cooking yourself some bacon at 1 AM in Alaska on a bear bait stand. After all its daylight that time of year.Cooking smells have been known to cause black bears around here to climb through windows in the spring, but that's pretty rare.
Don't fry bacon in March & April and you should be good.
Wayne Carlton(I believe thats his name) with Carlton Calls had a video out “Calling Bears” He called them in with predator calls snd blasted them with pepper spray. If you also use and know how to use a good fawn in distress call, your chances double. If you also know how to use other calls like a crow and turkey calls if there also in bear country your chances double again.
Here if you got a few extra minutes to read, this was the first I found off the net, didn't read all of it but sounds interesting, I gotta go to work..
Going Bear Hunting? Lure Them in With Fawn Distress Calls
Predator hunting expert Jack Spencer Jr. offers tips on calling black bears with fawn distress bleats. Try it on your next hunt!www.trappermag.com
Has a fireplace but no bathroom or kitchen!I don’t know the location of this “hotel room.” On the one hand, I absolutely love it. OTOH, with the increased bear presence near humans and their sheer power, I’m thinking that glass walls are just “displaying the entree” so to speak.

He was addicted to the adrenaline rush for sure.
The bears around where we lived in Alaska ran the other way most of the time.
When they heard a call it was “oh Sh!t, they huntin” they would disappear.
I have done a lot of bear hunting in the interior and they are pretty smart. I have been impressed by how smart at times.

It would be white meat under glass. Though vary GMO, vaxed and fatty, maybe the bears are health conscious.A peasant under glass?
I love that "room" also. For the most part--bears don't want the interaction or trouble of people. My dogs go on bear-alert and they are natural enemies.I don’t know the location of this “hotel room.” On the one hand, I absolutely love it. A guy I worked with, would go up to Minnesota to bear hunt with his in-laws. He came back to work onetime with a VCR tape of him sitting in his tree stand with the camera strapped to the tree above his head. It recorded a small clearing in the brush below him. He said that on the way to hunt that morning, they had stopped for a dozen donuts. There was a few left over, and he placed them in the middle of the clearing. In the video, you hear some crunching of the brush, and then a big black bear appears.
It walks up to sniff the donuts, and sits down on his rump. It picks up a donut with both paws, and starts munching on it. At that point, the bear stands up, and my coworker let's a arrow fly, hitting it square in the side of the chest. The bear leaps 5 foot in the air, clearing the brush in front of him.
The video picks up with them cautiously looking through the thick brush for the bear in the dark, where they found it dead. You could tell they were kind if spooked while doing it with flashlights.
Far as I'm concerned, anybody who bow-hunts bear without a sidearm ready to go is asking for trouble. Pissed off, wounded bear climbs up your tree after ya - what are you going to do but get ripped to shreds.A guy I worked with, would go up to Minnesota to bear hunt with his in-laws. Yeah, in Texas you can't have bow equipment and a firearm on you at the same time while hunting.Far as I'm concerned, anybody who bow-hunts bear without a sidearm ready to go is asking for trouble. Different kind o’ bear - lolWhere i come from, bear bait is a speeder on the interstate that you follow at a safe distance while speeding to allow him to trip any radar traps.
Everything I’ve read suggests that bear meat is stringy and greasy.Bears are on my short list of shtf food
It depends. Age of bear, sex, time of year, what they're eating, and yes, prep. It's rich, dark meat, and the fat can be overwhelming, so helps if the cook knows what they are doing.Everything I’ve read suggests that bear meat is stringy and greasy
And how it's processed from time of death to being butchered and packaged/how it's processed and cooked, smoked, etc....It depends. Age of bear, sex, time of year, what they're eating, and yes, prep. A different guy brought two big roasting pans of bear meat in BBQ sauce to work. Two loaves of bread and all was good. He called it Bear-B-Q. It was like slow cooked Beef Brisket. He shot his bear in Wyoming.Bear stew is actually very good, it depends upon how it is prepared.
