Water Berkey Filters

There has been a couple of post about Berkey and their legal problems. I'm trying to find replacement filters and from what I see, they are all gone. Has anyone used any other brands in their Berkey with any success?

Thanks

The berkey filters that are having a problem are like a third party manufacturer. The berkey filters are on amazon. I bought a knockoff at a much lower price.

Your username gave me a good chuckle!

I don’t have a good answer for you. We started using Berkey as a way to reduce fluoride in our everyday water, the fact it was a low tech way to purify water in an emergency was a bonus. Starting to realize that we really need a RO filter for everyday use, and starting to research countertop systems, although most are electric based, rather than gravity. Our current emergency filters are still life straws, and a bucket setup for non-potable water.

Hopefully your research turns up something better!

I have not yet tried these, but I got this link to Boroux in an email today. The email was from Ashley@Practical Self-Reliance. IMHO, the EPA didn't "make a mistake". They intentionally targeted this company because TPTB can't control people who can take care of themselves. 0_EPA is ****ing Berkey over.jpg

Try Safecastle. I recently purchased authentic Berkey filters from their website. They may still have some.

These (Doulton brand) are highly thought of by several longtime posters here.

This vendor (Pure Water Products) is very good IMHO. I have sent them a few hundred dollars over the years for emergency filter packages for gifts and personal use.

Direct link to the emergency siphon filters that have been discussed on the board several times that use these candle type ceramic filters.: Emergency Siphon / Gravity Filters featuring Doulton Ceramic Cartridges – Pure Water Products, LLC

A photo snip from their website indicating they work in Berky vessels:

I've had good dealings with this company, St Paul Mercantile.

ETA:
For some reason right now there seems to be an issue with US addresses. I have emailed the site to see what is up with that, as I have ordered from them in the past several times.

ETA II:
The store owner got back with me. He is out of town until early February, and "closed" his store by removing the US as a shipping address. He did not know it would require the address change like it did for me. Sounds like all will be well once he gets back from his other obligations and turns the store back "on" for US customers. Still a good plce to purchase from, even if not immediately... sorry if I confused anyone.

Have you used the cerametrix filters that also get heavy metals and fluoride?
I thought of grabbing a few as backups for the berkey.

Did some research. With these filters, the carbon filtration is built into the ceramics, so it can filter fluoride out as well. Silver impregnated which is a big bonus.
(basically, ProOne is the same filter, but the aquacera is cheaper)

The downside is longevity. (800 gallons for internal carbon material, aquacera 5" imperial)

The ceramics will continue to filter biologics past the internal carbon media's usefulness with cleaning though.

It's a tradeoff considering I don't have to have an addon fluoride or arsenic filter.

I might order from this place because it's free shipping at 70.00.

Here is the info on the aquacera cerametrix filters.
The CeraMetix GF filter is manufactured to remove suspended solids, pathogenic bacteria, cysts, organic chemicals and improve taste and odor. The ceramic is silver impregnated to prevent bacteria growth and is self-sterilizing. The ceramic shell is manufactured to balance flow rate and consistent pore size to provide maximum filtration efficiency. The center of the filter contains our AquaMetix granular media to reduce organic chemicals, fluoride, VOC’s, heavy metals and improve the color, taste, and odor of drinking water. This filter element is designed for gravity filter use and other low-pressure applications. These filters are designed for use in AquaCera® Gravity Filter Systems; they will also fit other makes of gravity systems.

On a sidenote, the ProOne Pour Pitcher seems to be a superior filter to Brita. (Filters fluoride)
So if anyone wants to get a filter that does what the aquacera does, that might be a good alternative.

Pulled the trigger on a pair of CeraMetrix 5" imperial gravity filters.
(If anyone needs a 10% off coupon code for the linked website, let me know.)

At the rate we drink water, a set will probably last us a few years before the internal carbon filtering runs down.
Then, we could still filter out rain water (bugs) by cleaning the ceramic shells, but not heavy metals and chemicals.

We use a countertop filter to get everything out but fluoride.
So this is an economical way of filtering it out.

Plus, the added bonus, if things tank, we have a solid water filtering system, especially for rain water.
And, more than likely, we will be helping neighbors with filtered water.

On a sidenote,
Michael Yon mentioned that the #1 plague that comes with wartime is Typhus because of the unsanitary conditions that follow. So good clean water is a start to keep that away.

And, it wouldn't hurt to keep a med or natural remedy for typhus around, going forward.
