Breaking: Special Forces team ambushed in Afghanistan, multiple casualties

Update: At least 1o U.S. casualties (2 KIA and 8 WIA). The WIAs include senior members of the ODA and Company. Most of the WIA have gunshot wounds to the legs, but at least one was shot in the face and is in critical condition.

A Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha (ODA) was ambushed in Afghanistan, resulting in multiple casualties.
It appears that at least two American commandos have been killed and several wounded — unconfirmed reports put the number to four Wounded in Action (WIA). Emerging reports indicate that the SF team was ambushed by its partner Afghan National Army (ANA) force (a Green-on-Blue incident). Sources familiar with the incident told SOFREP that it was a 3rd Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) ODA.
Colonel Sonny Leggett, the spokesperson for U.S. Forces-Afghanistan (USFOR-A), stated that “a combined U.S. and Afghan force conducting an operation in Nangarhar Province was engaged by direct fire on Feb. 8. We are assessing the situation & will provide further updates as they become available.”

The ambush took place in the Sherzad district in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS), the main intelligence agency of Afghanistan and an equivalent to the CIA, have been quite active in Nangarhar in recent months, going after insurgency leaders.
On a separate statement, the Afghan Ministry of Defence said that five Taliban insurgents, including a local Taliban commander, were killed in airstrikes conducted by the Afghan Air Force (AAF) in the Gardi-Turghar area of Surkhrod district in Nangarhar. It is not yet clear if the airstrikes were in support of the joint American-Afghan ground force.
Nangarhar Province has been one of the battlegrounds in the country between the Taliban and the Islamic State (ISIS).

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) -
The U.S. military says American and Afghan military personnel have been fired on while conducting an operation in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, and one official says there are U.S. casualties.

The official says several U.S. personnel were either injured or killed, but the exact number and other details are not available. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.

A U.S. military spokesman in Afghanistan says in a statement only that both Afghan and U.S. personnel were "engaged by direct firing."

The Taliban and the Islamic State group affiliate both operate in eastern Nangarhar.

The incident comes as Washington seeks to find an end to the war in Afghanistan.

Let's Go Brandon!
All neocons, and the management of all defense contractors,
need to be called to a meeting at The White House.

It needs to be stated to them, that the ZUSA is pulling out of
the shitzhole country of Afghanistan, and that is that.

Pay them the money that they demand, and be done with it.

Remember, the neocons and the military industrial complex,
have been responsible for every war since The Civil War,
maybe even all the way back to The Revolutionary War.

End their control, and you end the non-ending wars.

Bring the boys home, bring them back alive.

Please be save everyone.

Regards to all.

I have never been able to figure out the strategic significance of Afghanistan....we want it, the USSR wanted it.....Why? What is there that is worth all the gazillions of dollars and ruined lives?

Then at the same time the govt. refuses to defend our own borders....and American men still volunteer to serve our wicked and corrupt government.
I see the "I'll fight for freedom" propaganda bumper stickers yet when I look around me I see nothing but a corporate virtual police state crossed with moral depravity.

You want to fight for freedom, start with the vipers in DC and all 50 state capitols.

People at work used to get mad at me when I said that. Still saying it.

Well I would agree more so if obomba or alike was in charge.

Just sucks that's still the most likely reason, even with Trump in the seat.

Rather it be a hunt for the Ark or alike... reason now..

I hope Trump pulls our troops out and blows up the bases as we leave. When my daughter was at Bagram, an Afghan cafeteria worker turned after a visit to his home. He came to work on Veteran's Day and blew himself up at the start of a fun run for the holiday. My daughter and her CSM missed it by minutes. Her guys were lining up so close to it, they were the first responders as the others were dead or wounded. We don't need to sacrifice our treasure in those hell holes!!

Old Q Course joke punch line way back when - "That's not a bacon tree. It's a HAMBUSH."

Basic thing in life - sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you.

So sad for the families and friends ... they all really should be home by now.
Go ahead, Doz. tell us all about the jokes you told and heard “in the Q course”. You never attended.
Don’t be so flippant about the loss and injury of my brothers. DOL

Trump Eliminates Some Of World’s Top Terrorists In Just A Few Months
President Donald Trump said Saturday that the U.S. has identified 52 Iranian targets that will be struck very fast and very hard if the Islamic regime seeks revenge for the airstrike that killed Qasem Soleimani, the leader of the Quds Force.

President Donald Trump has taken out some of the world’s top terrorists in a matter of months, approving military raids and strikes that have decapitated the leadership of various terror-affiliated organizations.

The death of Qasem Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force, on Thursday night, was just the latest in a line of successful assassinations by the Trump administration.

Hamza bin Laden
While it is unclear when exactly Hamza bin Laden, the son of late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, was killed, Trump confirmed his death in mid-September. The younger bin Laden was taking on a more prominent role in al-Qaeda before he was killed in a U.S.-led counterterrorism operation in South Asia.

The State Department had put out a $1 million reward for information on bin Laden’s whereabouts in early 2019, but reports say he may have been killed anytime between 2017 and 2019.
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed during a Trump-approved U.S. special forces raid in late October.
The raid reportedly lasted about two hours and took place at al-Baghdadi’s compound in Syria. al-Baghdadi was chased into a tunnel by a special forces canine and, after reaching a dead end, the ISIS leader killed himself by detonating a suicide vest. Three children were also killed in the blast. (RELATED: Here’s The Timeline Of The Raid That Left ISIS Leader al-Baghdadi Dead)

Trump later gave a medal to Conan, the dog who successfully chased down al-Baghdadi.
We have declassified a picture of the wonderful dog (name not declassified) that did such a GREAT JOB in capturing and killing the Leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi! pic.twitter.com/PDMx9nZWvw

Abu Hassan al-Muhajir
Shortly after the death of al-Baghdadi, Trump announced that the U.S. had also killed his likely successor to lead ISIS.

“Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops,” the president tweeted in late October. “Most likely would have taken the top spot – Now he is also Dead!”

A U.S. official confirmed to NBC News that Trump was referring to ISIS spokesman Abu Hassan al-Muhajir.

Qasem Soleimani
Trump ordered an airstrike Thursday that killed Gen. Qasem Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s elite Quds Force. The military leader was allegedly planning an imminent attack on American compounds in Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon that would kill hundreds of Americans, according to the State Department. Soleimani also approved an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, which forced the U.S. ambassador in Iraq to evacuate.
At the direction of the President, the U.S. military has taken decisive defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force, a US-designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.
— The White House (@WhiteHouse) January 3, 2020

Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis
Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the leader of Kataeb Hezbollah or the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), was killed in the same airstrike that took out Soleimani. Kataeb Hezbollah was responsible for a recent attack that killed an American contractor, which kicked off a series of retaliatory strikes by the U.S. and ultimately led to the storming of the embassy. al-Muhandis had promised to “stop America and all of its Iraqi cronies” after the strikes.

The country isn't worth a single American life. Nuke it and leave.

It isn't worth a single nuke either. If WMDs have to be on the menu, I say go with VX....

I'll say it again, you can't "fix" Afghanistan without "fixing" Pakistan first, at a minimum. At this point anyone from there that could have made a difference in either place got out or got killed a long time ago.

All I will say is that it isn't comfortable nor safe to be a grunt. We don't set policy, we just do what others won't.

I understand that. I was an enlisted Marine once upon a time. Uncle Sam has proven beyond all doubt that he is a warped deviant pedophile, not to be trusted or admired....these recent wars have proven beyond a doubt that these conflicts are not about our security.....

Doing what others won't may not be the right thing to do....if you do the will of evil men.....think Nuremberg.

Oh, I don't know... it might have something to do with TAPI (natural gas pipeline) and a trillion plus dollars of lithium in the ground. Yeah, maybe.

And - exactly - how much of that have we gotten in the last 15 plus years?
