I'm in need of a new cherry pitter, mine died it was one of those plastic numbers from Norpro http://www.kitchenniche.ca/cherry-pitter-p-1841.html Needless to say the plastic units don't last long, 12 years. Suggestions???

Do a search on "Chop Rite" Cherry Stoner or Pitter. They are not cheep running around $80 to $89, but made of cast Iron and they kind of mangle the cherry and not a problem for pies and clobbers or canning for such.

working on it
I found one at the goodwill store. its german made and works really well. I also have the norpro but I like the german one better. . I need to stock up on the rubber "gusset" ( I'd guess you'd call it). they both use one

Mine was on clearance at Younkers some years ago. Guess most 'fancy' people do not pit their own cherries. Mine is just a little Kernfix, also from Germany. Does only 2 cherries at a time but it has done many, many gallons of cherries over the years.

I ended up ordering a Leifheit cherry stoner from Amazon Prime, it arrived in two days. Now if it'lll stop raining long enough to pick cherries!

FIL used an old fashioned hair pin stuck into a cork. While it works I am looking forward to using PW's new one. I just can not immagine doing four gallons with a hair pin or paper clip.
