With the cold weather that we have had for last last few weeks.
Just wanted to put some information out that could save from possible
damage. The cold will thicken the fluids and can cause damage.
The first is automatic transmission, Check the dip stick see if it should be
checked in park or neutral. Most are park but some are neutral. If neutral
set parking brake and shift to neutral. This will cause the fluid to flow thru
the system and warm with out damage. And will help the trans to last longer.
Second is power steering let run for a few minutes, Place hand at 12 o'clock
slowly move to 2 and then back to 10 o'clock position. If you hear the pump
make extra noise let run for a minute are 2 more and try again. This will warm
the fluid. These are only suggestions to help prevent possible damage.
Have had to clear transmission codes twice in the last couple of weeks from
wife's dodge truck for trans and power steering. I have been starting her
truck for the last several day and doing these two things. and it has not
been setting the codes.
Also flushed the power steering on my truck and reduced the noise at cold start
But my truck is old and needed it anyway.
