Congressman: Prop 200's passage was key moment to limit illegal immigration

TOMBSTONE, Ariz. Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo says the passage of Prop 200 was a seminal moment in the movement to secure the nation's borders and limit illegal immigration.

He said: "Proposition 200 passes and the world changed."

The voter-approved law was passed by Arizona voters in November. It's aimed at keeping illegal immigrants from voting and obtaining certain government benefits.

Tancredo is a prominent supporter of tougher border enforcement. He was in Arizona yesterday for the launch of the Minuteman Project -- a volunteer effort to put civilians on the Mexican border to spot and report illegal crossers to authorities.

Groups in several other states have been considering similar proposals. Meanwhile, the Arizona Legislature has moved this year to pass laws that build on Proposition 200.
