EBOLA DO IT YOURSELF, HOME MADE $600-$1,000 PAPR- jury rigged for <$50? Suggestions?

Saved, to glorify God.
Outraged at the cost of belt mounted, battery powered, PAPR's ( portable air purifier respirators) , which are SIMPLY SOME METHOD TO SUCK ROOM AIR THROUGH AN N-100 filter and send it into a HAZ MAT SUIT!

I THINK an entirely reliable ONE CAN BE HOME-MADE for way less than $50.

I am awaiting delivery of a small, belt mountable, $5, FIVE STAR RATED (BY PURCHASERS) battery powered, WATER AERATOR, built to run continuously for 20 hours off two "D" batteries. i am waiting to take it apart and see how I need to modify it to CHANNEL ROOM AIR INTO AND OUT OF IT. FUNNELING room air through an auxiliary mounted N100 air filter.

Anyone (who is handy, like I am) have suggestions?
BY THE WAY, THIS OLD GRANNY IS A FEDERALLY LICENSED, AIRFRAME MECHANIC rated to fix ANYTHING on any plane, from BOEING 747 to a dope and fabric ragwing Piper, except for the Engine and Instruments.

The particular continuous duty aerator unit I ordered to "push the air" may or may not work, i may have to move to a battery powered vacuum.

Maybe something like this. Air flow toward head would help with cooling.

* Powerful, high-quality battery-operated air pump
* Portable and inexpensive multipurpose aeration device
* Oxygenates water when transporting fish or during emergencies
Now if the power fails, your aquarium won't! The Azoo Battery Air Pump is a powerful, inexpensive backup aeration system that offers peace of mind in the event of an emergency. Provides vital oxygen to aquarium inhabitants and features an On/Off switch to maintain battery life. Includes a 13-1/4" airline and airstone. Requires two D-cell batteries (not included). Also great to use when transporting fish.

Tips from our Techs
When the filters are not running due to a power outage, it is wise to place your airstones at the top of the aquarium. Under normal conditions, any organic material that is stirred up by airstones placed on the bottom is properly filtered. Placing your airstones at the top of your aquarium during a power outage ensure toxic organic wastes on the bottom are not stirred up and mixed within the aquarium.
Please click on "More Information" for advice on how to reduce oxygen depletion in your aquarium.

Unfortunately, i see no provision to KEEP THAT HEAVY, unwieldy UNIT ON THE WORKER's head.

Why not a heavy, clear plastic bag. If you have positive pressure it will inflate. Need some kind of valve to produce a bit of pressure.

I'm thinking the aerator pump may not provide sufficient volume of air for normal breathing. Do you have a lpm rating on the pump?

LPM?
No, I wish I did. The probable insufficient volume is my concern also.
I am investigating 12v auto vacuums now.

I've got the exact same item but it is yellow. Used to aerate minnow buckets for fishing. Doesn't put out a lot of air but the thing runs forever and the batteries last. I've had the same batts for three years and accidentally turned it on in the back of the Jeep a few weeks ago. Took me ten minutes to figure out what that noise coming from inside my Jeep with no battery was. Maybe two or three of them running at once would work. Not heavy. A three-way connector-from ann aquarium supply shop and a single hose. Still need actual filtration. As long as you are not running a marathon a simple mask ad goggles would likely be sufficient unless the Ebola or whatever victim explodes onn you.

I bet someone who dives-Dennis IIRC could come up with the cubic foot or PSI a pump would have to push to maitain normal breathing at surface pressures.

A Doc perhaps-anesthesiologist?

Oh and you will need a way to equalize the pressure as well as remove the Co2 annd condensation from the mask.

You are thinking Lab Biosafety Level 4 Moonsuit completely sealed suit.
That is NOT Necessary, nor what I am aiming to make, nor is it what is being used to treat Ebola most anywhere.

WELL,
There IS 5 minute, IMMEDIATE "fix",
work around that would immediately provide BOTH COOLING AIR INTO THE Haz-Mat suit,
AND CLEAN EXTERNAL AIR TO THE HOOD.

ALL THAT REQUIRES IS DUCT TAPE.....
And a 120V plugged in Cpap machine placed OUTSIDE the patients room for clean air, and either one 25 foot hose
0R several cpap hoses joined/taped together and affixed to the hood/suit.
The cpap would provide sufficient air flow to SPLIT OFF part of the flow and drop it through a smaller tube DOWN THE BACK OF THE NECK OF THE SUIT (ENDING AT THE BASE OF THE NURSES SPINE) to cool the suit and maintain positive pressure inside it.
That would only involve the inconvience of a "tethered" unit.

Lengthening the hose WOULD increase the "load" on the machine (resistance to air flow increased) and possibly reduce the volume of air, but I doubt if it would affect it enough to be materially significant.

Field expedient means what you have on hand and common tool/materials. And yes its a lot like the Apollo 13 scene. If you want an engineered suit, then you'll spend $500+. If you want to keep your face, lungs, etc clear of exposure to multiple contaminants while you are getting your butt out of harms way, and you only have materials that are at hand, then you MIGHT come up with something similar.

Just make sure the electric motor and bearings are sealed units separate from the air pump!

You don't want to breath in any kind of lubricant or electric motor fumes from the mechanical side of the air pump...

I would bet the majority of the air pumps out there have a sealed motor compartment to keep fish tank water out of the pump but you never know about the economy units out there.

Just a thought on your safety.
