Farm Dog proof raccoon trap

Marshmallows are best here. Coons love them. I shove one behind the trigger on the DPT and lay another on the ground near the mouth of the trap. Never fails.

Looks like the perfect tool to stop the critter eat'n my chickens. I never know something like this existed. Got one on the way.

Thank you. Just ordered one. Neighborhood cats and dogs come around at night as well as raccoons, setting off my alarms. I don't mind the cats and dogs as they're just nosy, but the raccoons are destructive. Neighbors have had their ducks and chickens taken by the raccoons. This will help get rid of these pests.

Some people eat them and they're okay if properly prepared and roasted.

If you all in town a live trap (cage) might be the way to go, they go in them very easy. Then you can take them swimmin in a trash can until they quit gurgling

I caught my little Dog 3x in a live trap before he figured out not to go in there. He never bothered the coon trap.

The problem I have had with live traps is going in the morning to find the trap flipped over and thrown. Coons love to tear stuff up and if they flip a live trap the bait will often fall through the wire sides onto the ground or fall out the bottom.

Wire them to a fence, or lay over a 2x4 crossways and wire down.

I'm using one now and its wedged in a narrow gap and can't be flipped.

You can also stake them

If you brush em in also less likely to flip

How big a rush are you in?
Time is not the issue.

Just wondered if there is a way to instantly kill them.

I am now up to 79 coons - 1 cat - 4 possums - 3 skunks.

I started in June with 6 traps around my chicken house - since then at least 5 or 6 weeks worth of time - I didn't get around to setting them.

I let one possum go - and caught him the next night. I warned him if he came back he would be history - and he now is.

I'm a fairly good trapper, but have never used these types of traps before. Does anyone know if they're cat-proof?

I caught one the other night - it was a fairly small cat - but feral for sure.

So far the only one I have caught.

But I was using cat food - I have caught coons on marshmallows - I doubt cats would be interested in them - but I don't know.

The deadliest coon bait I've found is fryer oil saved from a fish fry. Wad up half a slice of bread, put it under the trigger in a DP trap, and pour fryer oil on top, they'll come from miles around.

If your using DP traps put a fluorescent orange or yellow golf ball on top, keeps the rain and mice out, plus it makes it easy to check your traps from a distance. Not that coons care about human scent, but it can save some walking if you're running a road line.

ETA: The fryer oil freezes really well, just pour it back into the bottle and freeze, I've used it after a few years in the freezer and works as good as fresh.

I'm using a pickeled eggs I did myself, pickled with anchovey paste.
