It's chock-full of over-saturated full-color images of animal cakes coated with dyed coconut flakes. I grew up with this brochure (as my mother did before me). I spent so many hours as a kid daydreaming about these cakes, and struggled each birthday to choose which one I wanted. I think my favorite was the Dandy-Lion Cake. Elephant

I have made the elephant and the cat. I love to take them to pot lucks. They are always a hit. Thanks for reminding me! Isn't creativity fun?

Yeah. My favorite moment was when I was asked to make a cake for a bible study session. Make it banana!" was the parting shot.

You want a banana cake? I'll give you a banana cake!

I twisted two coat hangers together into the general shape of a banana that would barely fit into the oven, corner to corner. I formed a pan around it using aluminum foil. Then I mixed up two boxes of spice cake. Spice, to give folks a little surprise. I frosted it with yellow and brown frosting and stuck a Dole banana label in the middle.

It was so big I could only carry it on a board from my bookshelf. Just before break time, this dufus carries the cake into the classroom, saying "I just had to show you this before I cut it," and holds the board up as if showing a portrait. Fortunately he was really quick and caught it before it actually slid off the board.

Next time they asked for cookies. I'll tell you about the cookies some day.

Thanks, Diamonds!!!!!!! Cake is still my favorite part of my birthday! All I wanted this year is a round two layer, chocolate with buttercream frosting, and pink and purple flowers on it! I think I am getting one, too, since hubby said he will be a little late getting home!!!!!!!!!!
